    Kids & GoldenEye

    Kids & GoldenEye
As Overlapping Dialogue continues its quest through the cinema of the 1990s, we pair our most unlikely duo yet with the "edgy" coming-of-age drama Kids and the wildly popular entry in the James Bond franchise GoldenEye, both from 1995. But before we careen between the two widely disparate works, this edition's Blue Plate Special sees us tackling the reshuffling of Turner Classic Movies and pontificating on what it might mean for the future of the beloved institution; sorting through three recent releases in Asteroid City, No Hard Feelings, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny; and celebrating the life and legacy of screen legend Alan Arkin. We eventually get around to trying to classify what exactly Kids is all about and marvel at how GoldenEye successfully retooled 007 for a new generation. GoldenEye feat. Kurt Schiller & Chris Woodward

GoldenEye feat. Kurt Schiller & Chris Woodward

Returning guests Kurt Schiller and Chris Woodward join us to discuss James Bond's first foray into a post-Cold War world, 'GoldenEye' featuring two notable "firsts": Pierce Brosnan's debut as the international super spy and the first Bond film helmed by director Martin Campbell (who would return to update Bond again for a post-9/11 audience with 'Casino Royale').

We discuss the troubled history of the series' 17th entry that saw the exit of previous two-time Bond Timothy Dalton, how Pierce Brosnan's take on the iconic character appeals to the 90s fetishization of the business class, and why the film's embrace of a post-Soviet setting- refreshingly- doesn't feel quite like a victory lap.

Martin Campbell directed a new movie starring Liam Neeson, and we definitely watched it. Right? Anyway, let's talk about the fascinating career of Liam Neeson post-Taken, then dive into the unpredictable filmography of Martin Campbell, who directed Jon's favorite movie of all time, among...other movies. Finally, we review a movie called...called...oh, it's on the tip of our tongues. Guy Pearce is also in this movie, we're pretty sure.

For the second part of our Bond Double Bill, Rob has chosen his first cinematic 007 experience.  He's gone all Brosnan with 1995's GOLDENEYE.  Will it be onatopp of his list of Bond films, or is it a has-Bean?  And if you think those jokes are painful, just you wait!
