In 1971 the late, great Marvin Gaye released his 11th studio album entitles, "What's Going On?". The album featured hits like "Mercy Mercy Me", and "Inner City Blues", but perhaps his most powerful single was the album's namesake, "What's Going On?". The song served as a plea from Marvin to his people and nation to take a little time to talk and see what was going on around us in a time of national turmoil. You see during that time our nation was battling racism, murder, drug abuse, and the onset of war! Sounds familiar right? Unfortunately, Marvin and his co-writers could have written this song yesterday and it would still be just as relevant today! Mass shootings, widespread drug abuse, the threat of war, a shaky economy, and the blandishments of a "culture" that has been passed off as cool to our people by power hungry sycophants whom profit from our demise, has left us in an eerily familiar territory to that of 1971.
Today Edgar and Cortney plummet into the current state of our nation and the so-called culture that is swiftly leading to the demise of our people. Tune in as they meander through this episode and offer up their perspectives on how to shift our mindsets to overcome our status quo.

In Hall of Songs, we attempt to determine the greatest songs of all-time through listener votes. But after our listeners elected no songs to our prestigious song hall of fame the last time out, what would happen after introducing a bunch of songs from 1974? Would the early and mid-1970s continue to be a black hole? Could a 1967 song finally sneak into the hall after several rounds of waiting? What does this all mean?! Listen to this episode to find out, then get more info at hallofsongs.com.

Terence Toy started spinning house tracks in the early 80s, back when the genre was progressing through major east coast cities with velocity. The late New York house DJ David Bryant was a mentor to Terence and turned him on to the deep, funky sound of the underground scene. Bryant’s perceptive advice to Terence was, “to be really successful in this business, these are the grooves to play.” Terence never looked back.
To the benefit of his audience, Terence brings to his turntables his experience as a trained musician. He’s a skilled drummer, he reads music and was a member of his high school band. He understands music theory and is an expert at reconstructing verses, bridges and breaks. Terence is also an accomplished composer and producer of house music, including deep house, R&B house, gospel house, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Afro-tech.
His roots embody the styles of New Jersey swing to the Miami sound to Chicago warehouse; the beats and tempos speak to him. Soulful-vocal-house and straight-ahead jazz have always moved him equally.
Click the links below to listen to the tracks we played on our episode with Terence, plus a few more including Terence's musical response to George Floyd and the story about it.
On Hall of Songs, the 1970s have truly arrived. Tim and Chris unveil their picks for the 12 best tunes of 1973, a wild year where musicians continue to stretch the limits of popular song. There's the sneering punk of the New York Dolls and the lush dancefloor proto-disco of "TSOP." Then there are massive stars who will come to define the decade: Elton John, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen.

Yes, there are new inductees in the Hall of Songs. Maybe they're the songs you most expected after listening to the 1971 episode. But the big news is what's on the other side of the ballot: Tim and Chris discuss some shocking cuts -- songs that didn't get enough support to stay on the ballot any longer.
Listen, then visit our website at hallofsongs.com. Then come back for our 1972 episode and, after that, vote for the songs that you think should make our hall of fame.

This offbeat episode of END ZONE INSIGHT profiles Marvin Gaye, the smooth voiced star of 1960s and ‘70s Sweet Soul Music. The Detroit-based superstar had a love for football and befriended Lion NFL stars Mel Farr and Lem Barney. The pair of Lions were invited to attend a recording session at which Gaye created one of his most famous and emotional songs, “What’s Going On?” The song’s opening is ad-libbed both musically and with over-dubbed spontaneous conversation, and the voices of the football stars ended up on the recording. When record sales went gold, Gaye gave each of his friends their own gold record awards.
Recently, and for the first time, Tim opted not to reward the Doors' "Light My Fire" with entrance into the Hall of Songs via the Golden Vote. "Prove me wrong," he told listeners, who were tasked with another election including songs from 1968, '67, '66, and '65. So ... did the listeners prove Tim wrong? Tim and Chris talk about the Hall of Songs election results and bid adieu to several tunes.
