The Omnibus Show E024 Missy Shopshire discusses Pink Cadillacs, Near Death Experience, and Life Coaching

September 25, 2023 - Today’s episode of The Omnibus Show will feature author, speaker and coach, Missy Shopshire.

Shopshire started her career in sales, reaching the top two percent in a multi-billion-dollar company. She held that position for over ten years, during which she learned the importance of building a team, leading them well, and working toward a shared vision of success. Then, a near-death experience caused her to reevaluate her life.

Leaving the sales industry at the top of her game, she switched gears to become a certified life and business coach. Now, she helps leaders do what she learned to do —align with a higher purpose and achieve their true potential.

Join the podcast to learn about the milestones Shopshire went through to reach this point in her life – a place of satisfaction, purpose, and handstands!

While working for Mary Kay Cosmetics, Shopshire developed a skill set, and she realized she was great at sales. The seven pink Cadillacs she won were a good indication of her success. (Hear how her husband and son felt about driving those pink cars!)

Then, some personal setbacks for her daughter, then herself, made her slow down and realize how precious and short life is. She herself faced a life-threatening illness. “These things bring you to your knees,” states Shopshire. She was not expected to live. In fact, as she lay in a medically induced coma, she heard nurses comment that they’d never seen a person with such low blood pressure. Shopshire was fighting to live, as she didn’t feel it was time for her to go.

When she came out of the coma, she knew it was time to find her purpose. Like many of those she now coaches, she felt stuck. Shopshire herself hired a life coach. “I began to see that even though I couldn’t see the whole staircase, I could take one step at a time.”

Leaving her position with Mary Kay was not an easy decision. As she began a second career as a life coach in a business environment, Shopshire’s goal was to help clients connect work and lives with a deep sense of purpose.

“Mary Kay’s mission is to enrich women’s lives. It was a relief that I could leave the sales portion behind and continue to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Shopshire’s newly released book - Forces at Work: how to get what you want and keep what you value, is geared toward those feeling misaligned in some way – not aligning with who, or what, they want to be.

It is for those who feel pigeonholed in their job. For the younger generation, she helps shape their career. For the older folks, it’s a matter of helping them pivot to enjoying their lives now that they’ve reached the end of their career. Host Dave Gibbs calls Shopshire a ‘Career Chiropractor” as they discuss her book.

Shopshire goes on to explain her methods as a coach including the need to find a purposeful direction and what it means to take inspired action to fulfill that purpose.

Planning for Success with Sarah Light

Have you ever written a big huge goal on your to-do list, and then felt discouraged as you watched it sit on your to-do list, day after day, week after week, without that satisfying check mark next to it? We’ve all been there. Maybe the reason you haven’t crossed off those goals is that they are too big. What I mean is: you haven’t broken those goals down into small enough bites. Maybe you think you have! But have you really broken down each and every step into micro steps? That might seem tedious and maybe even silly, but what if doing that helps you create momentum towards your goals? What if creating momentum helps you grow your confidence? What if that confidence helps you reach that goal with ease?

If this sounds intriguing, you will love my conversation with Sarah Light, founder and CEO of Sol Planners, a planner for entrepreneurs and goal setters. Sarah is a mom to almost 5 kiddos as well as a former social seller. She designed this planner with you in mind, and I can’t wait for you to hear more about it!
