What Now: How Tomorrow Shapes Today – Part 5: Really, Are You Ready?

What Now: How Tomorrow Shapes Today – Part 5: Really, Are You Ready?

Last week we posed the question, “Are you ready?” This week we challenge you, “But really, are you?” Join us as we continue in our series, What Now: How Tomorrow Shapes Today, by studying Jesus' Parable of the Ten Virgins . Together, we'll examine our hearts to determine whether our discipleship is authentic or superficial, and learn the implications of both. Listen with us in our newest message, "Really, Are You Ready?", as we look ahead to the return of Jesus Christ.

SAFETY: Doing nothing. Debates. "The Prayer." Small World.

I’ve been preaching … about how doing nothing is not inherently safer than doing something. You can’t shop for the perfect fire extinguisher forever.

I’ve been reading … debates between brethren over various issues. The “safest route” argument is not a good one for either side.

I’ve been hearing … “The Prayer,” lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager — a beautiful song, but one that asks God for the wrong kind of safety.

I’ve been playing … Small World. If your goal is to lose very little, you’d better be prepared to lose everything.

INVESTING: Talents. Wealth: Is It Worth It? Stock market. Underwater Cities.

INVESTING: Talents. Wealth: Is It Worth It? Stock market. Underwater Cities.

I’ve been preaching … about talents, and a willingness to work with however many you have.

I’ve been reading … Wealth: is it worth it? by S. Truett Cathy.  Do good work and growth takes care of itself.

I’ve been hearing … The stock market is down. Like in 2008, and 1930, and 1893. Don’t panic just yet.

I’ve been playing … Underwater Cities. If you live your life just going turn by turn, you will drown.

Hannah's Song: The LORD Who Raises (1 Samuel 2:1-10)

Hannah's Song: The LORD Who Raises (1 Samuel 2:1-10)

Hannah's song is a powerful piece of protest against injustice, and praise for the God Who raises the vulnerable, the voiceless, the hopeless and the hurting.  Her song becomes the paradigm under which the rest of the Books of Samuel function (not to mention the rest of God's work with humanity).

Near the end, Chris gives an impassioned plea for Alberta as a province to stop being the ones who increase the suffering and hardships of our most vulnerable populations in schools, hospitals, Child Services, and other places.  We have a chance to, like Hannah, seek the God Who Raises those whom society deems lowly.

There's also some low key rapping, if you're into that!
