    Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids

    Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids

Jesus told a parable about ten girls who participated in a wedding feast. The day's custom was for the feast to begin when the bridegroom arrived.  Five bridesmaids were wise and had their lamps ready for his arrival.  They were escorted into the feast.  The five foolish bridesmaids were off buying oil and missed being invited in.  Jesus said the parable meant always being ready because we do not know the day of his return.

Bible verses used in this episode:

    Outline:

    1. Ten girls prepare for a wedding (Matthew 25:1-9)
    2. The consequences of preparations (Matthew 25:10-12)
    3. Meaning of the Parable-Be ready (Matthew 25:13)

    Tips for teaching:

    • Explain weddings (bride, bridegroom, bridesmaids, etc) to children so that they can better understand the parable.
    • Make simple oil lamps from clay.
    • Help children understand preparation by describing fire drills to prepare for fires or first aid kits to prepare for potential injuries.
    • As a teacher, pose this scenario to the adults in the class to discuss:
      • If you knew Jesus was coming to your house, but you didn’t know when, how would you prepare for his visit?  What would you say to him?  What would the conversation be like?  What would you say about yourself?  What would he say about you? What would you want to change / should change about your life to prepare for his visit?
      • Follow up with this: Ask the class to write down one thing they would do differently to prepare for Jesus’ visit to their house on a piece of paper.  Ask them to fold up their paper and hand them to you.  Pray for each one asking God to give the person strength and wisdom to do what they wanted to do differently.

Works And Judgement: Matthew 25:31-46 Explained

If you thought this teaching from Jesus was about your need to perform better, you’re about to discover something very different. You’re about to discovered that this discussion about outward works it’s not about quantity, but rather about quality. And the quality is not measured by the amount, but rather or not you are in Christ, and she perform its work.

TPP #80 | Do You Know Your Master with Erica Schwartz

TPP #80 | Do You Know Your Master with Erica Schwartz

***Trigger Warning - Erica shares about her suicide attempt briefly (24:31 - 27:20), if that is triggering for you please fast forward.

Do you know your master truly? I am so excited to introduce you to Erica Schwartz who shares vulnerably how post-partum depression and childhood trauma brought her to a place she never imagined. Erica challenges us on who our master is. Because when her depression hit, she realized how little she knew her master and had nothing to fall on. She shares that oneway depression can take hold of you is because Satan studying is you. By drawing closer to who God is, we can see who we are in God.

When your inner voice is more powerful than God's word, your going to destroy yourself every time. - Erica Schwartz

Erica now has the opportunity to reflect on the people God placed in her life to help her grow and heal. She knows God sees our pain and helps us understand how much he loves, so much so, that our names are imprinted on his hands. He is not shaken by you and nothing will ever separate you from your Master.

    Reflection Questions

    1. What is one way you can get away from that negative inner voice, so you can focus on the voice of your Master?

    2. Has there been moments in your life where God said no, you were sad, you were upset, you were confused?  And with that perspective, can you now see how He used to prosper you to give you a hope and a future

Our Bodies Are The Temple of the Holy Spirit: February 21, 2023

Our Bodies Are The Temple of the Holy Spirit: February 21, 2023

The Bible says that if we know Christ, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 6:19). The believers in Corinth were living as if their bodies were nothing more than trash to be tossed in a dumpster when they died. They were caught up in sin—and proud of it. This should not be for believers in Christ!  In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us of the value and purpose of our bodies.

    Why Does Hell Exist?

    Why Does Hell Exist?

As we continue our series on the holiness of God, this week Pastor Tim teaches on the relationship between God's holiness and the reality of hell. Many believe that hell is extreme and too harsh for a loving God, but they fail to consider that God is not only loving, but pure and utterly holy and sin is an offense to his holiness that demands punishment in keeping with the crime. Hell is that punishment.

TPP #30 | Why Do I Need Wisdom with Dr. Hannah Stolze

TPP #30 | Why Do I Need Wisdom with Dr. Hannah Stolze

Dr. Hannah Stolze is the Executive Director of the Center for Faith & Innovation at Wheaton College and Director of the Lipscomb University Center for Supply Chain Management. She was a former soldier in the U.S. Army and served as a cultural analyst, operations specialist, and journalist in psychological operations, ordnance, and public affairs.

Hannah gave us a deep theological understanding of Matthew 25 and what His kingdom actually looks like.  Throughout our conversation, she contrasted Matthew 25 and Proverbs 31and helped us better understand supply chains and where there is a lack of justice and inequity in our world.  How are we to be wise with the resources God has entrusted us with.

Jesus cares about what we do with our resources.

Grateful to have Hannah also share about when she found herself as one of the least of these, pregnant and single in her twenties. God was with Hannah, He was faithful to her and allowed her to continue to use her gifts.

    Reflection Questions:
    1. What is one area you are currently seeking wisdom in? How are you going to bring that to God and those you trust this week for help?

    2. With the Context of Proverbs 31 from Hannah, go ahead and re-read Matthew 25 and/or Proverbs 31.  Discover what stands out to you now, what is God trying to teach you this week?

TPP #24 | Vulnerability in Your Gifts with Deb Knupp

Why is it so hard to recognize and own the gifts God has entrusted to us?  For me it is an off again on again battle.  How do I continue to use them well to showcase God to others and continue to grow in my own faith?

Today I would love for you to meet Deb Knupp who is a marketplace leader and entrepreneur who shares how her confidence dwindled and relinquished her to give her own business up to others.  Unfortunately, insecurity happens to each one of us often. There is no getting around it.  However, Deb used that time to draw closer to God to see how he was going to continue to work and use the gifts He entrusted her with for so much more.

    Reflection Questions:
    1. Has there been a recent setback or failure in your life?  If so, how can you draw closer to God and hear His direction?

    2. Did you resonate with the idea of being stuck? Who is someone in your life that  can help keep you accountable and challenge you?

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Father Persing

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Father Persing

(September 12, 2021) "Practice what you preach, " is the message at the heart of Father Persing's homily. Reflecting on his message from last week—the Apostle James's invitation to to be " doers, not listeners"—Father said, "If we want to know how to live, another great example is Matthew 25:  'Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, or ill?  Imprisoned, or naked?  When did we see you?'" Father concluded: "Our challenge this week is to really live that faith . . . to open our hearts to the Spirit of God . . . so, let us be those true doers of the Word and not just hearers; Let us demonstrate our faith by our works."
