    Train Up a Child

    Train Up a Child

A great amount of parental guilt has been fueled by taking the words of Proverbs 22:6 as a promise: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when is old he will not turn from it.” The first half of that Proverb includes an imperative that we must follow. The responsibility we have to nurture our children in the faith is non-negotiable. But the result mentioned in the second half isn’t a guarantee. Rather, it’s a general statement about the way things may end up. The reality is that history and the world around us are filled with examples of wonderful, committed, diligent Godly parents whose first priority in life has been to train up their children in the way they should go, only to see some of those children choose to go in the opposite direction. What we can’t forget is that ultimately, it is God’s Spirit that brings about the change in our child’s heart. We have no clue when that change may come. Our duty is to remain faithful and obedient in our calling as followers of Jesus.

The Responsibility of the Family to the Church - Audio

The Responsibility of the Family to the Church - Audio
Church Covenant Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this Church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion, to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportments; to avoid all tattling, back-biting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech, to be slow to take offense but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay. We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

Foundation with Steve Teed Episode 13: Building a Foundation in the Next Generation

Foundation with Steve Teed Episode 13: Building a Foundation in the Next Generation

In the 13th episode of Foundation with Steve Teed we look at how the foundation for many people is being built by the media, education, and society in general.  We ask the question of is the foundation that is being built in the lives of the next generation a good one.

We start by looking at a news report about the supposed "happiest place on earth",  Disney, and what message they are passing on.

We then head over to a couple of school districts and see what foundation they are attempting to build in the students that are in their care.

After the break, we look at what it means to build a good foundation in our children.  We will look briefly at worldviews that are being taught and then answer the question of how can we build a good foundation in those who come after us.

The theme verse for the show is Provers 22:6 - train a child in the way they should go and when they are older they will not depart from it.
