What’s the Meaning Behind Jesus’ Birth at Christmas? [Blog Audio]

What’s the real meaning behind why Jesus’ was born?

More specifically, what’s so significant about the incarnation?

Jesus’ virgin birth as “the Son of God” defines history. After all, if God the Creator was really born in human flesh, then there’s only one question that really matters, namely, “Why did he do that?”

The miracle of the incarnation supplies the only foundation for the gospel of God’s love.

Christmas was the activation of God’s eternal plan to provide the payment of ransom that would rescue sinners from their sin.

Slow down in the rush of the Christmas season to reflect on and worship God for the great miracle of Jesus’ incarnation.

What Does “Keep Christ in Christmas” Even Mean? [Blog Audio]

What Does “Keep Christ in Christmas” Even Mean? [Blog Audio]

Christians are often concerned at Christmastime with “keeping Christ in Christmas.” But maybe we should spend a bit more time thinking about which “Christ” it is we’re “keeping.”

Unfortunately, even sincere attempts to “keep Christ in Christmas” can lead us astray.

Heart-tugging reflections on how Mary or Joseph must have felt, or the humble circumstances of Jesus birth, surely have their place. But only as backdrop for the true significance of the event.

The meaning and miracle of Jesus’ birth was the pivotal moment in creation history.

It was that instant in time when the Creator took the human nature of the creature upon himself forever.

God becoming one of us is the power behind the Christmas story.

The meaning of Christmas (episode 14) Christmas Series

The meaning of Christmas (episode 14) Christmas Series

Our final Sunday in the sermon series “The meaning of Christmas.” My goal in this series has been to answer the question “Who is this Jesus whose birth we celebrate on Christmas?” To answer this question, I have been looking through the prophecies found in the book of Isaiah about the coming Messiah. The context of Isaiah is this: the kingdom of Israel has split into two: Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Judah was facing pressure from Aram & Ephraim, two tribes in the northern kingdom. King Ahaz, the king of Judah, is afraid. Isaiah tells him to trust in God for deliverance and God will protect them. Ahaz instead reaches out to a foreign nation, Assyria, for help. Assyria helps defend Judah, but then turns and defeats Judah and takes them off into captivity. In Isaiah 9, Isaiah prophesies that despite their rebellion, ultimately a child will be born who will be the ideal king, and will be God himself, and he will be the eternal king, bringing wisdom and peace once and for all to Israel.

A bruised reed He will not break (episode 13) The Meaning of Christmas

This morning we are continuing in our sermon series entitled “The meaning of Christmas,” looking at the Old Testament book of Isaiah and his prophecies about the coming Messiah. During the time of Isaiah, the nation of Israel is falling away from God, and so God raises up a man named Isaiah to prophesy that they will be disciplined by a foreign nation, Assyria, and then by Babylon. As they will see in the prophecies, this exile points to the greater exile from God Himself due to their sin. But God promises to raise up a King who will be God Himself. 40-66 are prophecies to the Israelites in exile. In this section, Isaiah introduces a figure called “the servant of the Lord” who will do what Israel could not do, fulfilling God’s call and restoring the people of God to a right relationship with God and being a light to the nations, bringing salvation to the Gentiles. Isaiah 42:1-10
