Reid Hoffman confronts the AI critics, w/WaitWhat CEO Jeff Berman

Reid Hoffman confronts the AI critics, w/WaitWhat CEO Jeff Berman

Are AI’s harshest critics causing irreversible harm to humanity? How far should leaders lean into AI? And just what would Reid sound like speaking Chinese with a British accent?

Reid Hoffman sits down with CEO of WaitWhat and longtime friend Jeff Berman to tackle these pressing questions and more. Join them in an unguarded exploration of how the AI landscape has continued to shift in the six months since Reid published Impromptu, the book he co-authored with ChatGPT.

Reid also gives a sneak peek into his work with Microsoft's unreleased AI text-to-speech tech, and discusses why he chose not to join Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and other tech leaders in signing an open letter warning about the existential threat of AI.

Plus, you’ll hear how early stage business leaders should tap their network to take advantage of AI, and how larger organizations should create long-term strategic plans that can adapt at the drop of a hat.

How to find health information you can trust (with Dr. Jen Gunter)

How to find health information you can trust (with Dr. Jen Gunter)

While technology and the internet have made accessing information easier than ever, how can we discern between the facts we need to make the right decisions and fictions that could actually cause us harm? Turns out there is a better way to search on the internet and find reliable information, both on- and offline. Today’s guest, Dr. Jen Gunter, is on a mission to help people find accurate health information online. In this episode, she shares tips on how to tell a reputable source from a questionable one, and how to foster a healthy sense of skepticism about the information that pops up into your life—from your social media feeds to random conversations. Dr. Gunter is an OB/GYN and pain medicine physician and a New York Times columnist. In addition to being both a doctor and a mother, she hosts the TED Audio Collective podcast “Body Stuff with Dr. Jen Gunter”: https://www.ted.com/podcasts/body-stuff-with-dr-jen-gunter

#73 The Cancer Series (3 of 3). My Cancer Journey with Dr Lauren Macdonald

#73 The Cancer Series (3 of 3). My Cancer Journey with Dr Lauren Macdonald

On this episode I’m joined by Dr Lauren Macdonald, who worked as a doctor in Brighton for several years before being diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 cancer in 2014.

The years that followed gave her a deep understanding of what it is to face a life-threatening illness. Consequently, she became fascinated by the emotional experience of illness, the mind-body connection, and the body’s ability to self-heal.

To optimise her chance of survival she explored Integrative Medicine, specifically focusing on nutrition, the gut microbiome, and stress management techniques, alongside conventional medical treatment. She achieved complete remission in 2016 and has gone on to study vedic meditation, Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Ashtanga yoga.

    We talked about:

    • Her cancer journey, what is like to be a doctor with cancer and her experiences within the NHS system
    • Stress and inflammation in disease
    • How she was able to overcome trauma in her life
    • Gut health and its importance during therapy
    • Her experiences of yoga and learning more about surrendering herself to the universe
    • The power of nature as a healer
    • Her personal use of psychedelics and her thoughts on its potential use in medicine
