Mental Health & Major Depression: Gut Brain Connection
Hello! Welcome to episode 9 of The Visser Podcast. Today, we’ll be scratching the surface on the topic of mental health, deep depression, and how exercise, gut health, neuroplasticity, and even psychedelics may be keys in helping us stay healthy both physically and mentally.
I would like to reiterate that this is not my field of speciality, and we are here to discuss, share experience with mental health. Some of what we discuss may seem average, but always seek professional mental coaching if any of what we discuss today feels familiar in an extreme way and you would like to work on detaching from them.
Here are some key notes from Episode 9:
What if we could help mental health with exercise?
Steps to help avoid bouts of depression:
- Learn to mitigate stress
- Cold Immersion from Episode 8!!
- Stress systems are directly linked to your immune system and excessive swelling throughout the body and brain
- Exercise itself is proven to lift dopamine and epinephrin levels
- Your feeling of purpose
- Gut Brain Connection
- Another key to the brain is through the gut
- Keep your gut biome healthy
- fiber intake is high
- Fermented foods for bio-diversity
- Avoid Anti-Acids, Antibiotics etc…
- Take when absolutely needed, then get off and reintroduce gut bacteria through fermented foods and fiber
- Supplements can be taken
- You can go through a psychiatrist for prescription medicine
- A great supplement that naturally boosts your mood is Creatine
- 3-5 grams per day
The Future of Depression Reversal
- Neuroplasticity, we want as much as possible
- NDMA receptors to achieve this
- Psychedelics in small doses
- Effective in rewiring the neurocircuitry to then rewire the attachment to the event, allowing the person to view things from a different perspective (from outside the stress of it all)
- The Keto diet could have mood uplifting side effects :)
- This is something you can try out at your own comfort level, maybe the keto diet will boost your mood too!

Una nuova visione nell'affrontare le difficoltà interiori.
