FNW Podcast Ep.3 - I Didnt Mean to Haunt Your Food (Record Swap), Music Talk, Travis Scott, and Lil Uzi Vert.

In this episode we roll out a new segment on the podcast (Record Swap) name is currently in the works. We essentially give an album to each other to indulge, dissect, review, first impressions, and just overall give our thoughts about the album. We also talk about new releases in the music landscape, such as Travis Scotts' "Utopia" and Lil Uzi Verts' "Pink Tape". Discussions about the state of Hip Hop/Rap also arise due to us seeing how the genre seemingly is on the decline as of late.

Episode 32. We get a great track from the legend MF Doom and a classic from 1991 Ministry with Jesus built my hotrod. Our independent artist is Passion Cactus. Who played it better? Paul McCartney or GNR?

IDK Speaks On Hip-Hop Being Segregated & Bridging Generations With MF DOOM, Slick Rick Collabs

IDK Speaks On Hip-Hop Being Segregated & Bridging Generations With MF DOOM, Slick Rick Collabs

IDK ripped through his recent freestyle with the L.A. Leakers, where he called out some of his industry peers in the latest installment of the Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk series. The DMV rapper returned to keep the same energy with an exclusive interview discussing how he's rewriting what a rapper should be with his newest project 'USEE4YOURSELF.' As IDK has held it down for the past 10 years in the game, he's learned a lot along the way and has steered away from wanting to gain recognition from his peers and he's stopped trying to make sense for those who are still catching up to his craft.

Coming through to the LIFTOFF show, the "Shoot My Shot" emcee details how he's actively working to bridge generations of hip-hop with collaborations with the late MF Doom, Slick Rick, and Jay Electronica. IDK believes that rap continues to be segregated, but he's hoping to show that hip-hop creativity isn't always one-sided, as the genre stands the test of time and has an undeniable impact on the culture.

IDK shares a surprise moment that happened while at a nightclub with Evan Ross and Offset, and he goes on to speak on his huge opportunity with a Nike deal, what he's learned about toxic masculinity, and whether or not he needed to change potential insensitive lyrics, and much more.

    BADBADNOTGOOD

    BADBADNOTGOOD

Founded in 2010 while the three leading members were attending the Humber College jazz program in Toronto, "BadBadNotGood" have become a quartet spearheading a throughly modern approach to instrumental jazz. Incorporating off-kilter live beats, bass, keys and the occasional sax or string arrangement, the group have gone on to release 4 full length albums, as well as a 2015 collaboration with Ghostface Killah called "Sour Soul".

This group is young, mighty talented, and we can't wait to see what the future has in store for them.

INBETWEENERS: ALL CAPS - MF DOOM Web Comic (Troy Jeffery Allen, Maia "Crown" Williams & Sean "SMACK!" Mack)

INBETWEENERS: ALL CAPS - MF DOOM Web Comic (Troy Jeffery Allen, Maia "Crown" Williams & Sean "SMACK!" Mack)

Hip Hop Marvels Podcast INBETWEENERS, showcasing MARVELous people doing MARVELous things within the culture! This time Dub chops it up with writer, publisher, producer extraordinaire... Troy Jeffery Allen, executive manager, CEO & founder of MECCAcon... Maia "Crown" Williams & illustrator... Sean "SMACK!" Mack about their new six page MF DOOM web comic, "ALL CAPS" which is FREE & dropped all across the net on 4/20! "WE GOT IT LOCKED FROM THE BLOCK TO THE COMIC SHOP!" 🗨️💥

ALL CAPS... In the wake of his passing last October, the true life story of MF DOOM (real name: Daniel Dumile) has been the topic of many articles and blogs online. However, Dumile was a notoriously private person, and his MF DOOM persona underlined his need to separate the man and the myth. The six-page comic titled “VILLAIN: ALL CAPS” intends to simultaneously honor the man behind the mask, as well as the mask itself, by emphasizing his message: modern hip hop has become too obsessed with the superficial and is not focused enough on the sound. Writer Troy-Jeffrey Allen and artist Smack! (Sean Anthony Mack) utilize the visual tool of comics, a medium that influenced the DOOM persona, to take the reader on a visual journey that recreates the sonic experience of a MF DOOM album.

    The 5AM Episode

    The 5AM Episode

Get Familiar with 5AM, an innovative electronic music producer who is pushing the boundaries on what improvisation can look like in the abstract corner of electronica. 5AM went from asking “What’s a Tipper?” when first encountering his name on a festival lineup  to kicking off Uptempo night for his “Tippsgiving” event at the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, cementing himself as a staple in a scene whose influence we compare to the French Impressionists and Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. We chat about the 5AM Trio’s approach and the process of establishing a cohesive vision with his band mates, Tygris & Zone Drums. 5AM also shares his perspective on how religion, spirituality, and heady philosophy intersect with festival culture and contribute to the cleansing nature of our collective experiences.
