Where we cover movies based on comic books or original ideas with similarly “superhuman” characters! In this week’s episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss the martial arts/creature FX direct-to-video classic, Guyver: Dark Hero!
Some of the greatest laser-graffiti you’ve ever seen! A pulsating neck wound! Squibs! Theme music that will live in your brain for days after watching! Ancient alien lore that almost makes Ridley Scott’s Prometheus look like a more expensive remake with fewer jump kicks! A borderline miracle of low-budget cinema filled with charm and glorious fight choreography! One of the original “soft reboots,” packed with incredible creature FX - including the stunning Guyver suit - all brought to you by FX legend and director Steve Wang! Are you currently surrounded by people who are secretly giant monsters called Zoanoids? This movie probably won’t help you confirm, but it can’t hurt to try!
In addition, Matt shares his spoiler-free thoughts on Leave the World Behind and Saltburn, while Alex does the same for Ferrari, Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom!

Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! Today, we're delving into the crime-thriller world with a deep dive into the 1995 classic, Heat.
Directed by Michael Mann, Heat is set in the crime-ridden streets of Los Angeles and is known for its gritty realism and intense action. This film isn't just a heist movie; it's a complex narrative exploring the lives and motivations of both the criminals and the law enforcement pursuing them.
The story revolves around Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), a professional thief, and Lt. Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), an LAPD robbery-homicide detective. It's a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, as McCauley's crew prepares for one final big score and Hanna becomes obsessed with bringing them down.
Heat boasts an incredible ensemble cast, including Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, and Tom Sizemore. But the real draw is the electric dynamic between De Niro and Pacino, who share the screen in a famous coffee shop scene that has become a standout moment in film history.
The film delves deep into the psyche of its characters, exploring themes of obsession, sacrifice, and the blurred lines between good and evil. Both McCauley and Hanna are depicted as flawed, complex characters, each driven by their own code of ethics.
As dads, we'll talk about the moral complexities the film presents, the notion of duty versus personal life, and how it impacts family – a theme that resonates with many of us. We might not be planning heists or chasing down criminals, but the struggle to balance work and home life? That’s something we can all relate to.
So, get ready for a thrilling ride as we explore Heat. Whether you're a first-time viewer or revisiting this gem, it's a film that's sure to spark some intense discussion and maybe even a few heated debates. Tune in to Bad Dads Film Review for a deep dive into one of the greatest crime dramas of the '90s. 🚔🔥🎬👨👧👦🍿

When a really good crew takes a redshirt on an away mission, he turns out to be more of a cowboy than they expected. But when they agree to a really big score, they might meet their match with a crew playing for the other team. What's the URL for Craig's List but for heists? What do you call guys that aren't Wayne Knight, but kind of are? Is the Sizemore Special a smart thing to order for breakfast on the morning of a heist? Everybody knows that Heat isn't a holiday movie. What this special episode presupposes is, maybe it is?

In this episode of Wealth In Real Estate Development, host Nick Smith discusses the world of "hard" money with Michael (Mike) Mann aka "Your Money Mann." One of Mike's specialties is helping investors get their real estate projects financed.
Mike explains the difference between hard money and private money. And he also shows how both can be beneficial tools for real estate entrepreneurs. In addition, Mike gives an awesome explanation on how an investor should determine if a certain real estate investment is actually a good investment.
Mike also gives very transparent reasoning as to why it is challenging for investors to get financing for new construction projects. But he doesn't leave you without hope as he also gives some ways these challenges can be overcome.
If you'd like to connect with Mike to help get your developments financed, please feel free to reach out to him via email at Mike@YourMoneyMann.com.

Another solo episode this week as we discuss Michael Mann's thriller 'The Insider', based on the true story of whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand and his explosive 1996 interview with 60 Minutes that exposed secrets about the tobacco industry and their complicity in manipulating their product with known carcinogens to increase the addictive effect of nicotine. The film is at once the story of the the tremendous power of corporate entities to take down those who seek to share the truth with the American public and an expressionist masterpiece that showcases some of Mann's most disciplined and mature directorial work.
We discuss the film's seismic lead performances from dual leads Al Pacino and a career-best Russell Crowe. Then, we praise the Michael Mann & Eric Roth script, and its critical portrayal of its subjects, avoiding lionization. Finally, we discuss the story's terrible prescience, and how the film's shock at corporate media interests overruling the efforts of journalists can sometimes feel quaint by today's standards.

Hello, today I talk about the 1986 American thriller film directed and written by Michael Mann. Based on the 1981 novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, it stars William Petersen as FBI profiler Will Graham. Also featured are Tom Noonan as serial killer Francis Dollarhyde, Dennis Farina as Graham's FBI superior Jack Crawford, and Brian Cox as incarcerated killer Hannibal Lecktor. The film focuses on Graham coming out of retirement to lend his talents to an investigation into Dollarhyde, a killer known as the Tooth Fairy. In doing so, he must confront the demons of his past and meet with Lecktor, who nearly killed Graham.

Seemingly emerging with many of his career trademarks already on display, THIEF (1981) is writer and director Michael Mann's film debut and features the auteur's usual meticulous attention to detail and commitment to realism in this terrific crime revenge thriller. When strictly freelance diamond heist expert Frank's fence meets an untimely demise he is forced into a meeting with mafia boss Leo (Robert Prosky), who persuades him to undertake one last, lucrative job. Somehow feeling fresh despite the familiar tropes (even for the time), Mann hired ex-con John Santucci as a consultant to help bring a level of authenticity to the events of the movie which is never more evident than in the film's opening scenes, where Caan was specifically trained how to crack a safe. After THE GODFATHER, James Caan rates this as containing some of his finest work, especially an intimate conversation in a diner scene with romantic co-lead Jessie (the incredibly named Tuesday Weld) as they share their twisted version of the American Dream. Frank is an unrepentant recidivist but is sympathetic in his own way and his strong code is at odds with the fantastically assembled cast of amoral bad guys - many making their debut including GREMLINS 2 THE NEW BATCH's Prosky - who seem like almost genial and very ordinary middle-aged men until they are suddenly terrifying and dangling you over a vat of acid.
