Keys to Student Engagement in the Classroom with John Robinson

Keys to Student Engagement in the Classroom with John Robinson

    Are traditional teaching methods outdated?

Can hip hop culture be leveraged in the classroom to increase student engagement?

How does student trauma impact focus in the classroom?

John Robinson is an entrepreneur, creator, label-runner, educator, and author.

John Robinson began his career in the mid '90s as Lil’ Sci of Scienz of Life—a group with his brother ID 4 Windz and their late comrade Inspector Willabee. The group Scienz of Life caught the attention of Bobbito Garcia, co-host of the legendary Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show. Bobbito helped release the group’s music through Fondle ‘Em Records.

With a career that spans over 25, he has worked with several prominent artists, including the late MF DOOM, Blu, Emanon (Exile and Aloe Blacc), Ta’Raach, Wise Intelligent and C.L. Smooth.

In addition to his career as an artist, John Robinson is also an educator. He co-wrote Youth Power Culture: A #HipHopEd Guide to Building Teacher-Student Relationships and Increasing Student Engagement with Dr. Jason Rawls, also known as producer J. RAWLS. His hands-on work in communities, classrooms and board rooms around the country, touch on all that he’s learned in his career—specifically how the elements of hip-hop can be localized in the classroom and globally.
