Caregiving - The Crisis No One Knows is Coming!!

Caregiving - The Crisis No One Knows is Coming!!

Title: The State of Caregiving in the US: Challenges and Opportunities

In this episode, Nancy and I  delve into the current landscape of caregiving in the United States. With an aging population and evolving healthcare needs, the role of caregivers has never been more critical. We explore the challenges faced by caregivers, from financial strain to emotional exhaustion, and discuss the impact on both caregivers and those receiving care.

1.Number of Caregivers: According to AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, there are approximately 53 million unpaid caregivers in the United States.

2.Demographics of Caregivers: Caregiving is a widespread responsibility that spans various demographics. However, caregivers tend to be predominantly female (about 60%) and are often middle-aged or older. Younger caregivers under the age of 30 also make up a significant portion of the caregiver population.

3.Impact on Health: Caregiving can have significant impacts on the health and well-being of caregivers. Studies have shown that caregivers are at higher risk of experiencing physical and mental health issues such as chronic stress, depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders compared to non-caregivers.

4.Economic Impact: Caregiving responsibilities can also have financial implications for caregivers, with many experiencing reduced work hours, loss of employment, and increased out-of-pocket expenses related to caregiving duties.

5.Access to Support: Despite the significant number of caregivers in the United States, many face challenges in accessing adequate support and resources to help them cope with their caregiving responsibilities and maintain their own health and well-being.

Join us as we navigate the complex world of caregiving in America, uncovering the stories, struggles, and triumphs of those on the front lines of care.

Brian Arrington - Vets2Industry -Setting Up Transitioning Military for Success

I interviewed Brian after attending a Vets2Industry networking event that is nothing less than legendary.  If you haven't been to one you need to attend and find out what Brian's WHY is starting V2I.

Brian started Vets2Industry to provide a free resource library for the military community – active, guard, reserve, veteran, military-spouse, dependent children, Blue-Star & Gold-Star Families, and caregivers – so they know which organizations provide free services and benefits. V2I also serves to break the circle of ignorance by listing companies that have opportunities for veterans, those that have specific military hiring programs, those that are on the 100 Military Friendly companies list, and those that selflessly provide Fortune 500 mentors for a year to transitioning service members through their partnership with American Corporate Partners. The goal is to educate all 220,000 to 240,000 transitioning service members each year and their dependents on free resources to ease their transition and life needs, and more importantly, provide hope.

Michelle Lang - Veteran Help Point - Connecting Veterans to Local Resources

Michelle Lang - Veteran Help Point - Connecting Veterans to Local Resources

Michelle Lang has been a military spouse for about 6 years. She graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in Business/Sports Management and went on to work in the wellness field as a Community Health and Wellness Coordinator. Here, she helped assess the needs of the community and fill them by finding programs to implement. She left that job in 2015 to join her now husband in Fort Drum and began struggling to find meaningful work again.

Shortly after her husband transitioned from the military in 2019, they were made aware of the severe gap of finding local veteran resources to help her husband and family. Through this struggle, Michelle began to think about a big picture solution to this issue. Their family moved down to Fort Bragg after her husband rejoined Active Duty and that is where Veteran Help Point began in November 2021.

Today Michelle advocates for military spouses and veterans by connecting them to local resources they need while building the database of local resources through Veteran Help Point.
