Episode 656: (The All-New, All Different) Pull List for April 1, 2020

Episode 656: (The All-New, All Different) Pull List for April 1, 2020

Picks for Wednesday, April 1, 2020
MikeJudge Dredd Classics: The Apocalypse War HC & Bazooka Joe and His Gang: 60th Anniversary Collection HC
Greg- Starlight: The Return of Duke McQueen TPB & JLA/Avengers: The Collector's Edition HC

With Diamond deciding to halt distribution of new content to comic shops for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike & Greg decided to change up the format of these Pull List episodes rather than just stop doing them. So for this four hundred sixteenth installment of the Pull List series, instead of just picking two new books for the coming week, the lads each chose a book for these two criteria:

    1) A previous Pull List choice of theirs from a date as close to one or more years prior to this date as possible, and

    2) A random book from their shelves they wanted to discuss.

Robots From Tomorrow is a twice-weekly comics podcast recorded deep beneath the Earth’s surface. You can subscribe to it via iTunes or through the RSS feed at RobotsFromTomorrow.com. You can also follow Mike and Greg on Twitter. Stay safe and enjoy your funny books.

019 // Emma Holmes ❤️ Kingsman: the Secret Service // Thumb Wrestling

019 // Emma Holmes ❤️ Kingsman: the Secret Service // Thumb Wrestling

'Manners maketh man'? When Colin Firth picks a pubfight, dressed as a gentleman, most people are on board. And so is comedian, storyteller and organizer Emma Holmes. She is the face of many a night of laughs and improv in her hometown of Wageningen. And it's great that she's willing to cross over to Nijmegen to talk about Kingsmen: The Secret Service (2014).

The Matthew Vaughn romp was the surprise of the year for loads of moviegoers. Entering with fresh expectations didn't prepare you for a joyous mess of fighting and laughs, and a brilliant performance by Elton John-to-be Taron Egerton. For loads it was the best! But not for our host Ruud.

For him, this was the first time director Vaughn didn't reach up to his usual high bar. A fan of StardustKick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, this felt to him as a let-down. And finally he gets the opportunity to share his thoughts on microphone. It's nice of Holmes to be a good sport about this, and she's a joy to listen to herself.
