TPPP 53: Caishikou Execution Grounds, Beijing

TPPP 53: Caishikou Execution Grounds, Beijing

Well, if the name doesn't alert you to what this episode is going to be, then let us tell you it all here. The Caishikou Execution Grounds, right in the heart of one of the biggest cities in the world, Beijing. This seemingly innocuous intersection that holds a lot of shopping locations, a vegetable market, and a pharmacy, was also the sight of some of the more grizzly things to happen in Beijing, mostly to criminal convicted of treason.

This week's episode features Lisa going into depth on what exactly happened to those convicted of treason. Jake regales us with stories of ghosts that are seen in full daylight, but without their full body. And Davis gives us fun facts about the Olympics, since Beijing is the only city to have hosted both the summer and the winter.

This episode is our penultimate for Haunted China. We've had an amazing and interesting time learning about this culture that we knew so little about and continue to, even after a two-month stint. So, tune into our 53rd episode of The Possibly Paranormal Podcast, with TPPP 53: Caishikou Execution Grounds.

    1-1. Mandate of Heaven

    1-1. Mandate of Heaven

The Ming Dynasty would rule China for nearly 300 years.

Firmly ensconced in the Chinese pathos is the concept of the Mandate of Heaven. This is similar to the European concept of the Divine Right of Kings. Both the Divine Right of Kings and the Mandate of Heaven are given by heaven.  Beyond that they are different.

For many decades the Ming had been fighting along their long border with Manchuria. There was also a major rebellion late in the 16th century in Sichuan Province. It was called the Bo Zhou Rebellion. The Ming also got involved in a war with Japan.  That war was called the Imjin War.

A fellow by the name of Li ZhiChang led an uprising in North Central China.  He was called the Dashing King.  There was also another guy by the name of Zhong Xian Zhong that led an uprising.  He had the colorful name of the Yellow Tiger.  The Dashing King eventually made it all the way to Peking in 1644. On June 6, 1644, the combined Ming and Manchu armies defeated the Dashing King and conquered Peking and declared a new dynasty.

Next time I will talk about the Qing Dynasty's founding father.
