A BUSINESS MENTOR THAT FITS... YOU

Whether you are just starting out or looking to grow your business to the next level, having a business mentor is a terrific way to benefit from the perspective of someone who knows how to get ahead.

As someone with more experience in entrepreneurship, a seasoned business pro can advise you on how to hone your abilities as well as navigate new challenges. A mentor can provide pointers on business strategy, bolster your networking efforts, or act as confidantes when your work-life balance gets out of whack.

Personally I have a whole treasure chest filled with business support that adequately feeds me when I am stuck.

If you were to take a look inside my bag of tricks you'd see the following: Two business mentors, a three person business mastermind, several business coaches, some go-to books and refresher videos, and a whole lot of supportive colleagues.

Each of these resources provide me with compatible solutions.
So ...what's the difference between a MENTOR and a COACH?

My personal business mentors are hugely successful powerhouses. They are rooting for me and I know that they are always in my corner. I chose them as mentors because I personally strive to be more like them.

These women business leaders are available if I need some sound advice and at no cost to me...BUT they are usually very busy and getting time with them isn't always easy. Therefore I know that it is best NOT to bother them unless the favor I am asking is PIVOTAL. It's best to treat your business mentors like an EMERGENCY CREDIT CARD...used JUDICIOUSLY and ONLY in extreme situations.

A business coach is a bit different. They are on your payroll, help you strategize, and keep you accountable when working towards a specific task. Business coaches have knowledge, tools and resources to help you improve and reach a specific destination.
Will hiring a business coach lead to more cash flow in your business?

Like every other business expense, it is important that you pre-screen the business coaches that you would like to work with before handing over a down-payment. Check their references and consider if you should expect a nice return on your investment before making the commitment to work with them.

Not every business coach will be a fit for YOU and your unique situation. In fact if you are not careful, the most brilliant coaches will not be able to help you if they are not in alignment with YOU and your business. For example, it is important that your business coach understands your unique situation as a work-at-home parent.
    Pay it forward.

Looking for a way to display kindness and community service? Business mentoring can be a wonderful way to give back to the community that was there when you first ventured into business for yourself. Be a business mentor to someone who is less further along than you are and you can expect to grow as a leader in the process. Set boundaries like how often you meet and how many mentees you can conceivably take on without draining yourself.

    Open Coaching Day for MomPreneurs

    Open Coaching Day for MomPreneurs
Choose to Live in a World of Progress and Forward Motion Want the life you are in. Easier said than done... or is it? Some people make it look so effortless. The truth is that it can become effortless once you have made a habit out of it. Ahhhh, yes. Creating a new habit is where you might be getting hung up. If getting a new perspective is all you need, that means its time to declutter your current perception of things. You must train yourself. Letting go of limited beliefs simply requires re-training and refining. All too often we become trapped by misconceptions that our destiny is determined by some acutely miserable incidents that life throws our way. ...unless you choose to believe that these "incidents" are disguised as something else. Blessings? Opportunities? Lessons? Use your creative force to thrive on these endeavors. We can't be afraid to trust that we possess a powerful spirit - the same spirit that helped us to create and nurture our children. We can use this empowered spirit to help us apply for a business loan, quit our day jobs to work for ourselves, or call up an intimidating client to close the deal. To deny this spirit would be almost as bad as settling for mediocrity. You don't want that for your children, so why accept that for yourself? Let go of limiting beliefs and you will achieve a better perspective in all you do. If you are truly ready to be in a better reality, you must be willing to see things differently than in the past. Negative illusions might be holding you back from knowing that it is a grand thing just to be alive. More than that, it could be preventing you from broadcasting a powerful message to the world that only you were meant to deliver. If you are truly ready to become a pioneer, than you must be willing to invest more into your creative core. Dare to stand before the Universe when it presents you with a challenge and ask, "Is that all ya got?" My guest this week is... you. I will be opening up the phone lines to address any challenges you may be facing in your business, your family or your personal life. Get in the Mood for a New Year

Get in the Mood for a New Year
Happy New Year. Now get back to work. Changing our moods to match our surroundings isn't always easy. We ventured into solo-preneurship because we wanted the freedom to be able to work, play and sleep on our own. We chose our unrestricted and self-led careers so that we could "leave work at work" and take long breaks to celebrate the holidays with our families among other things. Although I am grateful to have that luxury of turning around the "Closed" sign in the window for the last 2 weeks of the year I admit that it is always a struggle for me to shift into vacation mode or "mood". I love my work. It's not easy to turn off this brilliant brain of mine (ahem). When I get into a productive momentum, I don't want to stop for anything. Not even chocolate covered candycanes and eggnog. This hot mom / workaholic / home maker needs to be given an annual intervention at the same time every year. It has become a ritualistic detox for me to turn off my smart phone and leave it off to stay present in the holiday festivities. Interestingly enough, once the holidays are over and it's time to go back to work, it's a struggle to go back to the work mindset. There is a new detox that needs to take place. I am just not in the mood. By this point, I've gotten happily accustomed to waking up late with the kids, hanging out in pajamas to sing Wii Karaoke most of the morning, eating left-over apple pie for breakfast, snacking on gingerbread houses and chocolate truffles, and having "words with friends" marathons with old college friends all. day. long. Snap out of it. Remember your purpose. Once we get clear and remember our higher intention, it shouldn't take long to snap back into the profit-producing mindset. After all, it is the choice we made to work hard in our independent careers that allows us to have long vacations as a result...and as a reward. We've earned the right to be able to get lost in our hazy lazy vacation moods without losing our shirts. And we'll earn it again. And again. Let's get PUMPED. I cannot wait to get going in 2013. There is a world of possibility waiting to be attained in small business and Mompreneurship! Mom business leaders are the new sexy of the decade and we are venturing into more opportunities than ever before. I am fully prepared to get you into the profit-producing mindset and give you the tough love you need to reach your personal goals this year! My sweet friend, Vivienne McNeny will be joining me as co-host on tomorrow's show. She is a fellow leader, a fellow Toginet radio host, and a fellow mom. I am thrilled to have her with us to ring in the new year! We'll be talking about home-schooling, managing the chaos of family large and small, and having a ball. If we aren't having fun... what's the point?

    Outserving Your Competition

    Outserving Your Competition
Choose your mentors strategically. If you are a SELF-STARTING, ACTION-ORIENTED small business owner, who is committed to taking your business to the next level--- you won't want to miss today's interview with Michelle Pippin. Last week we talked about my tribe of BBFs (Business Best Friends) with Leah Jantzen and Patty Lennon... who---ironically---had to take over the show last week as I drove my family "off the grid" to an out-of-state family funeral. ((Thank goodness for mom tribes and business besties... right???)) My tribe IS my support system... the gals who GET ME and accept me. In addition to my "tribe" I have 2 mentors---and these women serve a different purpose in my self-made career. They might "get me" but their job is NOT to pat me on the back and give me an abundance of "atta girls" when I need to be pushed passed my comfort zone. My mentors are there to help me to STRIVE FURTHER out of my reach... They DO NOT allow me to make excuses... or at the very least not TREAT excuses as ROAD BLOCKS--- and if it weren't for my mentors--- I would be swimming in circles year after year. "Business success is more strategy than secret" ~B. Michelle Pippin Many gurus would have you believe that business success is mysterious, mystical even… that there are “secrets” they can reveal that will have money pouring in....OVERNIGHT and --really?-- on "autopilot" (always makes me laugh!!) The truth is that there ARE tested and proven strategies for getting more clients NOW for your business or practice, and Michelle Pippin is the best there is when it comes to learning these "tricks" of the trade. What I have learned from Michelle is this---> the MAGIC isn’t in the “information”, it is in the application. If you want results, you are going to have to get creative in your EXECUTION of your strategy--- and this CAN BE done without compromising what makes you great as a passionate business owner. If your business could use a little "nip/ tuck" you'll want to tune in today--- and just a little tip--- you'll want to have a notebook ready to take notes. YOU WILL LEARN AN ABUNDANCE from Michelle Pippin--- because everyone always does!! ...and it won't take much for you to understand WHY she is one --of only two-- of my personal chosen business strategist mentors.
