Welcome to the Jumble (Beaulieu Autojumble Show Coverage Special)

Car-Chum doesn't do Special Editions; we leave to Peugeot and Ford in 1992.  If we did though, this episode would be one such example.  And so much more than just a tilt-only glass sunroof to make it special.  Join Tony and Mike at the Beaulieu Autojumble 2023 as they rummage for treasure with Matt Richardson from Furious Driving, Steph from Lancaster Insurance (and I Drive a Classic, of course), Danny Hopkins of Practical Classics fame.  The Chums also get a guided tour of the Autojumble from Beaulieu's Ben Coleman.  Oh - and they also ride the Monorail.  Well, it'd be rude not to.

    Episode Twenty-Two - 29th November 1979 - Hann So Low

Ever wondered what would happen if the people who make Tomorrow's World went on strike? Well, wonder no more. Turns out that all they do is cobble together a Frankenstein's monster of a programme from old segments of previous episodes. The interesting thing, as your esteemed auditors quickly discover, is that whoever is normally in charge of quality control is very much on strike too. Listen on as Michael Rodd fondles a gnome, laughs at some trains and breaks America, Kieran Prendiville gets stuck up a mast, and Judith Hann does her back in after crashing a chopper.

    Scrambled Eggs And Tossed Salad

    Scrambled Eggs And Tossed Salad
This week, we finish many things. OppAtt Theater concludes with the three most exciting attractions at Walt Disney World. SITCOT concludes with the one most exciting sitcom of television history. First up, Scottye makes a roll of the dice to send Martin Crane away from Seattle and maybe to a Cheers in space? It's complicated. Then, Jim combines the excitement of answering live radio psychology calls with the sheer boredom that is a state fair Tornado attraction. Don't worry, it's only slightly longer than the American Adventure in experience length. We end, somehow, with stunts, lightsabers, and the hit tv show Wings, you know, just to go out of the season on a real high note. See you for Season 9 in two weeks.

Everything you've wanted to know about Walt Disney World Transportation

Everything you've wanted to know about Walt Disney World Transportation

Alllll abbooard! Let's talk Disney transportation!

We start with the Magical Express, Disney's white-glove transportation service from MCO to your resort, and then go through how you get to the parks. Disney has you covered, from a bus or boat system to the classic monorail and even the new Skyliner Gondola system, in this episode we show you how hopping from place to place is a breeze!

    Let's Get Moving!

    Let's Get Moving!
This week, we discuss some of the insanity at this year's IAAPA conference in Orlando before setting about giving our very own Epic Universe it's own dangerous transportation systems. First up, Jim creates an in-park monorail-ish contraption that just so happens to routinely derail around the load/unload stations, leading to some harrowing balancing acts as guests try (and possibly fail) to make it to their next destination without falling to the sidewalks below. Meanwhile, outside the park, Scottye has instituted a guest proving ground to show that you have the fortitude to spend the day in a theme park that will most definitely cause bodily harm and/or death. Presumably you do not need a ticket to get to the turnstiles themselves, but you might need good insurance. Next week it's our season finale! Stay tuned!

    The Track Not Taken

    The Track Not Taken

The Meigs Elevated Railway—one of the world’s first monorail systems—looked like something out of a Jules Verne novel. But it was very real. In this week’s episode, hear how nineteenth-century Bostonians missed their chance to build a steam punk utopia.

The monorail system was the brainchild of Joe Meigs, a Civil War veteran and tinkerer who had political and financial backing from Massachusetts governor Benjamin Butler. Meigs envisioned a system that would soar above the streetcar traffic clogging Boston’s streets. Beginning in 1884, thousands of people boarded his distinctive cylindrical train cars for 20-mph rides around a test track in East Cambridge, MA. The system was a technical success, and eventually Meigs obtained a charter to build miles of monorail track around Boston. But a fateful attack one winter night in 1887 dashed his hopes—and proved that the best technology isn’t always the one that wins widespread adoption.

Featured guest: Charles Sullivan of the Cambridge Historical Commission. Charlie also provided key historical perspective in Soonish 1.09, A Tale of Two Bridges.
