    Standing in the Pain

    Standing in the Pain
When someone you care about is in pain, have you ever found yourself wondering what to do, how to help them, and what to say? This Sunday we’ll study a passage that describes Mary’s dramatic encounter with Jesus on the cross. We’ll learn a beautiful lesson from Mary about how we can help others who are in pain. This is the fourth installment in our sermon series on the life of the Mary, “From the Cradle to the Grave.”

    Day 343: Praying Through Mary

    Day 343: Praying Through Mary
To love Mary doesn’t mean our hearts belong any less to Jesus. Today, the Catechism explains our Blessed Mother’s role in prayer and why the Catholic Church prays in communion with her. We also explore the origin behind the Hail Mary prayer and other prayers to Mary throughout the Church’s history. Lastly, Fr. Mike reflects on the tenderness and strength of Mary’s motherhood that carries us through the difficulties of our lives. By uniting our prayer to her prayer, we unite our trust with her perfect “Fiat.” Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2673-2682. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Mary Pondered These Things

    Mary Pondered These Things

Gary and Jocelyn look in on Mary in the quiet of the night after Jesus has been born. The Shepherds have come and gone and we picture the little Lord Jesus laying on her lap as she reflects not only on all that God has done but what God has in store for her little Guy. Having access to all of the Old Testament prophecies, what exactly did Mary know about His future in addition to His past?

"But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart," Luke 2:19.

    But…God

    But…God

(Note: We're taking a break from the "Belonging to Him" series for the holiday season and will pick back up with Part 2 on January 17th. This week, you’ll be hearing the final sermon John shared from a 4-part Christmas series while pastoring a church in the country of Honduras.) One of the best ways to describe the birth of Christ is with the phrase, "But...God." It goes like this: the world was sinking deep in sin, but God entered into our world, became one of us, and joined us in our weakness and suffering so we could join him in eternal strength and joy. The light shines in the darkness and, because of the coming of Christ, the darkness will never overcome.

Mary and the Tree of Life

Mary and the Tree of Life

One of the most beautiful symbols that the heavenly messenger sheds light on for the Tree of Life dream in 1 Nephi 11 is the vision of Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus.

In fact, it is the very first vision symbol that the messenger brings to the attention of Nephi. Why is that? And why do we regularly give it a brief, cursory glance in our gospel discussions?

In this podcast episode we take a broader look at the Tree of Life and what it has represented in both the Bible, ancient religions, and the Book of Mormon.

Mary, Did You Know? - Eugene Higgins

Mary, Did You Know? - Eugene Higgins

The Christmas message is really a year round message - it's the message of the gospel - God's invitation to sinners to receive His only provision for sin - the Lord Jesus Christ! Christians remember Christ's birth all year round - and praise and thank God for ever sending His Son to come to this world and die at the place called Calvary to reconcile sinners back to Himself. What a wonderful person Christ is! Do you know Him?

062 – Women Make Christmas Happen

062 – Women Make Christmas Happen

062 – If it weren't for women, we wouldn't have Christmas

Just think about it. Without Mary, Jesus would not have been born.

But it's not just Mary who makes Christmas possible. Think of all the women you know who take to heart preparing for and celebrating Christmas.

And I'm not just talking about all the holiday traditions. Think about how women have brought the spirit of Christ's appearing to their daily activities all year long.

That is the true spirit of Christmas.

In this episode, I talk about

    • What we can learn from Mary: humility and readiness to embrace God's plan for her
    • Why we need to honor all women who bring the spirit of Christmas to the world
    • Why honoring women is really honoring God
    • How we can all "give birth" to the Christ every day in the way we act and treat others
    • How to have the spirit of Christmas all year long

And for us guys, it's time to be a Joseph. Sometimes you have the lead role, but Joseph knew he was in a supporting role. How can you support the women in your life as they prepare for and celebrate Christmas?

Episode 4: Part III: The Church As Last Eve - Proving Jesus Came To Redeem A Bride

Episode 4: Part III: The Church As Last Eve - Proving Jesus Came To Redeem A Bride
Years ago I found myself asking the question if Jesus is the last Adam, then would that mean that the church, Christ's bride, is in effect the last Eve? If not literally, at least symbolically? How to prove this, though, became more than a challenge for knowing where to even begin such a search. After much thought and deliberation I finally realised that the place that I needed to start was at the beginning with the creation of the first Eve through the first Adam. That if we, as the church, Christ's bride, are seen by God as the last Eve, if you will, then there should be correlations between the description of the creation of Eve in Genesis 2:21-25 and passages in the New Testament having to do with Jesus and what he did on our behalf in order to redeem his bride. This episode, the third in a 5 part series, begins with Genesis 2:23 proving that Jesus not only came to redeem a bride, but the bride he came to redeem, is in effect, the last Eve.
