    016: mother's day

This week on The Bedtime Podcast we’re celebrating Mother’s Day by off-roading and blaming our farts on babies. Noah puts his foot in his mouth again and spends a night in jail. We discuss Noah’s naïveté and if honesty really is the best policy.

4 tips to embracing hope through the heartaches of motherhood

4 tips to embracing hope through the heartaches of motherhood

As my children get older I realize more and more that our time with them is limited. Just the other day I saw a photo of a peaceful spot my daughter and I used to go - and there instead were her and her friends together.  It is during these moments I reflect on my mother and the times I shared with her and I give thanks for having such a great role model of being a mom, knowing when to cherish the times, and when to let go and watch your child(ren) fly.

Today on Holly's Highlights podcast we will look at 4 tips on embracing hope through the heartaches of motherhood. From the discouragements and watching our children face consequences in life, to the important role we play and enjoying each season we find ourselves in with our kiddos, we'll learn:
    1. that it's worth it
    2. not to take full credit, nor all the blame
    3. the importance of being their parent
    4. intentionally being in the moment

Our children spreading their wings and flying is perfectly normal and healthy. No matter the stage of life they are in may we always choose to embrace hope through the heartaches of motherhood.

How to Get What you Want on Mother’s Day

How to Get What you Want on Mother’s Day

    1. How does a mom get what she wants on Mother’s Day? Ask! First, though you have to decide. What do you truly want? What would make it the best mother’s day for you? So many women hold back from asking because they want other people to be happy first. We’re culturally conditioned to please others first – especially as mom’s, so this is the time to claim your desires and ask. SInce 40% of mothers say they have ended up disappointed with their Mother’s Day, it’s important to make your wishes known so you’re properly celebrated.

    2. It can feel vulnerable to ask for what we want. Maybe we even feel undeserving. How does a mom overcome this? We all want people to read our minds and know what we want without having to ask, but you have to take ownership of your needs and recognize that they are legitimate. It’s not about being needy, like many of us feel when we ask for what we want. Use an affirmation like “My needs matter and I deserve to ask for what I want. Other tips are talking about it with someone, take 15 minutes to journal about it, or get input from a family member by asking the vulnerable question “is it okay that I ask you for what I want?” That can feel scary but it’s so empowering!

    3. How do I make the ask/what’s important when asking? Be direct instead of dropping passive hints. Your partner, child or a friend who loves you wants to make your day as special as YOU want it to be, so you are truly making their life easier by clearly communicating what you want. Instead of saying “If you think this would be a good idea” or “Maybe we could do this…” Say “I would like this.” Or “It would make me feel really special if we did this. Can we make that happen?”

    4. What other tips do you have for us? Be specific and give options - if you like physical gifts, then give them 3-5 options of merchants that you like and what you’d like from each - then they can pick which one they’d like to give, but out of the options YOU gave, Create a list of responsibilities you don’t want to do for the day, give the name of the restaurant where you would like brunch reservations or how you prefer to spend this day in celebration of you. Many moms find themselves in the kitchen cooking for their kids coming home when all they wanted to do was have some down time. Or we end up with a massive amount of people and extended family, when all you wanted was a quiet day at home. Again, by asking for what you want you’ll be much more likely to get it.

    5. What tips do you have for family members? Ask the mom in your life what she wants and what would make her feel truly celebrated? Be careful of not imposing what you think she’ll want and remember – it’s not about you! You might feel hurt or disappointed if she doesn’t want to do what you want her to, but remember – it’s about her feeling celebrated. As a young girl, my mom had mentioned wanting a new colander. If wasn’t until my brother suggested a scarf did I realize it had never occurred to me that she would want something outside of a kitchen gadget!

    6. Some moms may feel selfish asking for what they want. What do you have to say about that? You’re setting an example that will equip your kids for a lifetime! American moms are influencing 73.1 million children under the age of 18 in our population. So, this Mother’s Day, remember the power of your influence, ask for what you want, while setting an example for your children and advocating for yourself by speaking up

The Power of Unconditional Love | An exclusive conversation with Sage Robbins

The Power of Unconditional Love | An exclusive conversation with Sage Robbins

We’re all here together in this Earth School learning, doing the best we can, making mistakes, picking ourselves back up. The soothing balm that keeps us going is often another’s kindness, caring, connection, and love. Its power is truly transformational.

If you think of any great mother, real or archetypal, they have a capacity to love unconditionally – to accept, to allow, to give, to understand, to listen, to nurture. A mother’s love brims with compassion and mercy. Even when their beloved has behavior that may be less desirable, there's still a universal knowingness and a loving essence for the human heart before them.

That unconditional aspect of love is what is discussed in this one hour special edition episode. Hear Tony, Sage, and Mary B converse on what it means to sponsor life.

There's a beauty to life. The mess of it, and the sweetness of it, and the pain of it. And so, it's not to say that there aren’t challenges and that there isn't pain in moments like right now with what's happening on the world stage. But we can contribute to the schism, or we can be a balm. We can be a balm of kindness, and goodness, and look to bring love, light, illumination, presence, connectedness, to be an ear to listen. It's amazing how that can shift another's world. I know what it feels like for me to receive that. I know what it feels like to offer that. And I think that’s a beautiful reality that sometimes in the busyness of life, we can forget how impactful in a moment we can touch another. That we can reach another. That we can move another. That we can remind each other because we're mirroring each other and as we're offering that we're experiencing that. Everything that I'm saying to you in this moment, it's really all selfishly for myself. Life is such a beautiful house of mirrors. We're all reflecting each other.

    - Sage Robbins

BACKGROUND ABOUT THE PODCAST LDS AND MEDIUM:

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story.

If you like what I do, then you can find me here: https://linktr.ee/ldsandmedium

If you have words of support or stories that you anonymously want me to share please write me at ldsandmedium@gmail.com. I will try and answer all your emails BUT I am very busy with my life and I hope you can have some patience with me.

I will try to always end my monthly Podcast with a meditational prayer. If you would like access to it as an mp3 you can support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ldsandmedium or send a Donation through Paypal. It will also be available on https://payhip.com/LDSandMedium
