Esther Saves Her People - The Book of Esther

Esther Saves Her People - The Book of Esther

In this Bible Story, the invisible and silent hand of God is used mightily in the life of Esther. In the presence of a great threat to the jews in the Persian empire, an unlikely hero is raised up to save them. This story is inspired by Esther 5:9 - 10:3. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is Esther 10:1 from the King James Version.

Episode 170: As Queen Esther got ready to enter the King’s Chambers, she knew she was risking her life by showing up uncalled for. However, God had gone ahead of her and softened the King's heart. So she invited the King and Haman to a feast and the King was glad to attend. During this feast, she asked the King if he would be willing to attend a second feast for him and Haman a second time. It was at this second feast that Queen Esther made her true intentions known as she asked the King to save her and her people from the wicked Haman.

Has the thought ever occurred to you, why Jesus, in the hour of his greatest distress, asked God to relieve him of his destined suffering? The answers lie in the heart-wrenching story of Gethsemane, where we cast a spotlight on Jesus' prayer and his disciples' reactions to a woman anointing him with a valuable ointment. We dissect Judas's betrayal, Jesus' forewarnings to his disciples, his words, and actions during the Last Supper - a crucial event that marks his final hours.

    2 Samuel 16: 5-12 // Ben Beasley

I understand that there are people here who have lived more life than me. Who have experienced much more than me. I’m well aware of that fact. But in my years, I’ve lived enough life simply to say this. Losses change us. They make us different. We don’t come out the other end the same. If we are honest, the wounds are often there, lying underneath the surface. Losses, whether it’s the loss of a child, a relationship, a dream, or whatever it may be - losses are defining moments in our lives. I would like us to recognize three ways in which suffering changes us; suffering humbles us, suffering leads us to pray, and in suffering, we find compassion for others. We are not alone in our suffering. God enters into our suffering and is the only one who can redeem the mess to offer hope in our suffering.

He told them of the power that will come on them when He sends the Holy Spirit and He commissioned them to carry on His mission of the Kingdom of God by making disciples, teaching others, and baptizing them in His name. Israelkanalen #368 Zachi Dvira - Temple Mount Sifting Project
Som ung student kom Zachi Dvira over noen intressante arkeologiske funn i Kedron-dalen.

Ep. 099 - All Hail King Jesus (Apr 10, 2022)

Ep. 099 - All Hail King Jesus (Apr 10, 2022)
A cascade of Old Testament texts find a connection in our Gospel today. Entering the city seated upon a colt, Jesus follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Solomon. But his authority is not merely human. Exploring the prophets we find that Jesus’ triumphal act ushers in not merely Davidic authority but Divine authority. Allowing Our Lord to Himself interpret His actions, we’ll explore the parable found just previous to our pericope. In it we read of a nobleman who goes into a far land to receive a kingdom. What is the far land and where are we in the parable?

The Mount of Olives in Jerusalem

The Mount of Olives in Jerusalem

The Mount of Olives is situated to the East of the old city of Jerusalem. The Mount plays an important role in the Bible. It is the place where Jesus taught his disciples to pray. It is the place from where Jesus looked at Jerusalem and wept for its future destruction. It is also from here that Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey and was welcomed by a crowd covering the street with palm branches. And of course it is the place where Jesus spent the last night before he was crucified, in the garden of Gethsemane, where he prayed to God asking if this cup could pass him.

The Mount of Olives and the Kidron and Hinnom valley are the location where according to all three monotheistic religions the final day of judgment will take place.

There are many churches, mosques and the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

In this episode I try to give a good impression of what you can see and of the history of these sites. It is absolutely not a complete description but rather an introduction. Hopefully you will come to visit the Mount of Olives for yourself one day!

Absalom Part IV: Humility & Loyalty in the King’s Procession [Part 2] (2 Samuel 15:13-16:14)

Absalom Part IV: Humility & Loyalty in the King’s Procession [Part 2] (2 Samuel 15:13-16:14)

Last week we discussed David's long, sad processional out from Jerusalem towards the borders of Israel, showing kindness and humility and trust in God's will along the way.  Today we connect David's journey to Jesus, Who took a reverse long, sad procession towards Jerusalem.  Jesus' journey is beautiful and powerful enough to change outsiders to insiders, as He marches towards the difficult will of His Father.

Also, since this is a shorter sermon, and because CCBC is full of hilarious people, we've added some extra bonus material, including a communion meditation and portion of a song that both connect with the sermon, a Scripture reading from a special young lady, Chris getting a whistle blown on him for preaching too long, and Abe making a very hilarious PG-13 confession!

    Nevertheless

    Nevertheless

The focus of Luke’s account is Jesus. Unlike the other gospels, he does not name the 3, or Peter who cuts off the servants ear, or the name of the servant. Luke does not have Judas kiss him, but only approach him to do so. John’s account is much more detailed.  But as concise as Luke’s account is, it is also extremely powerful.

Again, we have the perspective of hind sight, even as Luke did in telling us this critical section of the story. We know the outcome. The disciples at that time did not know what was going to happen, but are still caught up in wondering about it. As they head out, without Judas being present, it surely curious as to where he is and what was he doing?

Pray before temptation or testing. 2 x

The Prayer of Jesus: sweat like drops of blood.

The agony of the weight of what is about to transpire: “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

    2 Corinthians5:21ESV

    Definition

Nevertheless is a bridge between two opposing ideas or sets of facts, the first of which cannot invalidate or even dilute the latter, cannot ever make it less true.

Jesus sees the agony of the cross, the pain, the death and the grave.  His human side says I prefer life, nevertheless – on the other side: Thy will be done!

We stand on the sidelines, crying out, Jesus don’t back out now, don’t desert us.

The sorrow of the disciples: that word implies fear, anxiety, cowardice.

They did not pray as in the Prayer Jesus taught them: in the good times prepare yourselves for the spiritual battles that lie ahead. Twice he warns them. Do we sleep, ie, take things for granted when all is well? Do we begin our prayers in earnest when all falls apart? Or do we prepare beforehand by praying earnestly for those who are lost or misguided?

Do we listen to the arguments that call sin ok? We have a weapon against that which we need to use. We may not know the answers, we may not be smarter than the professors or leaders, but we do have a powerful weapon against all the forces of evil and against all the demons of hell: it is one word: Nevertheless.

The difference between Jesus who prayed and was strengthened by the Angel is different from the disciples reaction when the mob comes: it is so clear:

Jesus continues his healing ministry, loving his enemies, proclaiming the Will of God and standing with confidence, compassion, authority, and perhaps a slight bit of humor? I was with you daily, but you come in the night with armed guard to arrest a teacher? Your fear and your lies and deception are so apparent in the light of day. But this is your hour, because the Will of God will be done.  I am committed to it in my life. For this cause, for this purpose I have come. Nevertheless is a strong word when backed by the Will of God.

Invitation: consider what the will of God is for your life: 2 Thess. 1:11,12:

“To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

    2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NASB1995

    Hebrews 5:7-9

“In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,”

    Hebrews 5:7-9 NASB1995
