Strolling down the gritty, rain-slicked streets of David Fincher's cinematic masterpiece, 'Se7en', Bee and I crack open the case once more, peering into the film's shadowy corners. Each frame brims with crafty hints and gut-punch moments that speak to Fincher's prowess in weaving a tale as twisted as the seven deadly sins themselves. We dissect iconic scenes that stitch the narrative's unsettling tapestry, from the ominous dinner invitation to the skin-crawling exchanges with John Doe's attorney, revealing how these elements serve to amplify the immersive dread. The heart-pounding "what's in the box" scene stands as a testament to Pitt's emotional range, yet it's Freeman's seasoned gravitas that anchors the film's spiraling chaos. We can't help but unravel the complex tapestry of their characters' partnership, and while the scales tip slightly in Pitt's favor, it's clear that both actors deliver knockout punches.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) Movie Review | Zombie Book Club Episode 22

Dawn of the Dead (2004) Movie Review | Zombie Book Club Episode 22

2004 Dawn of the Dead - Unearthing a Zombie Classic

In this episode, join us as we dive into the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead," directed by Zack Snyder. We dissect the story of Ana, a nurse navigating a nightmarish, zombie-ridden world, and her encounters with a diverse group of survivors in a shopping mall. As they fend off hordes of fast, aggressive zombies, internal conflicts and ethical challenges, such as Andre's harrowing ordeal with his zombie family, bring tension to a boiling point. We also ponder how the narrative might shift in the absence of zombies, from a survival horror to a drama centered on human connections.

We critically examine the film through various representation lenses. Does it pass the Bechdel test? Yes, but with nuances reflecting the era's gender portrayals. The film's racial representation and its handling of an interracial couple raise questions about its success in passing the race test. Meanwhile, its approach to LGBTQ+ characters, particularly through the Vito Russo Test, reveals the limitations and attitudes of early 2000s cinema.

Join us as we explore survival tips gleaned from the movie, our picks for the best and worst parts, and Leah’s assessment of the film’s capacity to retain attention in today's evolved landscape of zombie storytelling. This episode promises a comprehensive look at a film that stands as a significant milestone in zombie cinema.

    Let's (Re)Watch: Thumbelina (1994)

    Hey Y'all,

This week on Let's Rewatch it Again we are watching Don Bluth's 1994, Thumbelina!

A musical animated film based off of the fairytale with the same name by Hans Christen Anderson. It's about a little girl no bigger then your thumb who gets into all kinds of trouble and has the most beautiful voice in all the land. Oh, and there's a fairy prince named Cornelius who looks suspiciously like an early version of Dimitri from Anastasia. Similar haircut, very different attitude. LOL!

This is not a Disney original animation but you can watch it on Disney plus! Yay!
