Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

This week’s advertised content is an experiment two months in the making--the realization of a thought experiment from a previous episode.

After recording our Raiders of the Lost Ark episode, we decided that revisiting the latest Indiana Jones installment, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was in order, as we had panned it so hard. We both saw the film when it was released in 2008 and neither of us had revisited it until this week.

So, this week we went into this episode ready to destroy it. Did we? Did we not? Who’s to say? Click and listen in to our thoughts on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, starring Harrison Ford (duh), Kate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Shia LeBouf, and John Herd.

In this installment to the franchise, Indy is recruited by newcomer Mutt Williams to help find his mother and mutual friend Professor Oxley from a KGB scientist seeking a mythical artifact.

Welcome to The Plotaholics Podcast, the podcast that dares to ask: "Was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull unfairly maligned and unnecessarily derided? Or was the backlash toward the film ultimately justified?" Find out now!

    Jojo Rabbit

    Jojo Rabbit

This week, the Plotaholics take a trip back to WWII with one of the greatest films of the last decade--2019's Jojo Rabbit, starring Roman Griffin Davis, Scarlett Johansson, Taika Waititi, and Thomasin McKenzie.

In this film, young Jojo (Davis) and his imaginary friend, Adolph Hitler (Waititi), are existing in the dwindling days of World War II when young Jojo discovers an interesting secret about his mother and their family home.

This film has it all--laughter, tears, more laughter, and Sam Rockwell, blind in one eye. Check out our thoughts on this masterpiece in today's episode!

In this film, the US sends in their Task Force X to save the country against a secret experiment in Corto Maltese...but when things go awry, a lot of craziness with weasels, rats, and polka-dots ensues.

Listen to the guys wonder what's inside the starfish, why the tightie whities are so prominent, and many other interesting questions!

The Longest Yard (1974 Vs. 2005)

The Longest Yard (1974 Vs. 2005)

Showdown Summer is coming to an end! This week we visit the 1970s yet again and dive into The Longest Yard, starring Burt Reynolds, and the 2005 Adam Sandler remake.

The Longest Yard features disgraced former star quarterback Paul Crewe (Reynolds/Sandler) who is sent to prison after a drunk driving incident and is soon tasked by the sadistic warden (Eddie Gilbert/James Cromwell) to put together a football team made up of the prisoners to take on the prison guards in a tune-up game before the guards start their semi pro league season.

Get our thoughts on both versions; our loves, our laughs, and our dislikes of this sports classic duo.

Showdown Summer has been an amazingly good time, and we thank you so much for sticking with us through this!

Space Jam (1996) Vs. Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)

The Plotaholics' Summer Showdown is going strong! Wooo!

This week we have a special guest as we are joined by the next generation of Plotaholics film reviewers, young Bryan Tann, Jr. Bryan Jr. joins Bryan Sr. and Shane Wilson as they discuss the 1996 film, Space Jam, starring Michael Jordan, and 2021's Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring LeBron James.

In both films, superstar athletes must take to the hardwood to save the Looney Tunes from slavery or outright deletion--first from Danny DeVito and then from Don "War Machine" Cheadle.

We laugh, we laugh, and then we laugh as we feed our enemies dog water!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) Vs. Guess Who (2005)

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) Vs. Guess Who (2005)

This week, we tackle a Hollywood classic and its 2005 remake. 1967's comedy-drama, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, stars Hollywood heavyweights Sidney Poitier, Spencer Tracy, and Katharine Hepburn and explores the story of a young white woman, raised by liberal-minded parents as she brings home her black fiance. This film was Spencer Tracey's last--a fact that brought tears to the eyes of many, including your two hosts.

The remake, Guess Who, stars Bernie Mac, Ashton Kutcher, and Zoe Saldana. Saldana plays a young, African American woman who brings her white fiance home to meet her parents.

Honestly, there isn't much that can be said in a description when it comes to our thoughts on this. So, come on in and have a listen.

We also do some talking about Black Widow and our thoughts on the MCU and how they've handled things to date, and how we believe they will handle things going forward.

Also, be on the look-out for the upcoming Tann Talks episode where Bryan Sr. and Bryan Jr. will talk Black Widow!

    Freaky Friday (1976 vs 2003)

    Freaky Friday (1976 vs 2003)

Summer Showdown continues as we go back to the mid 70s only to go back to the mid oughts! That's right! This week we visit Freaky Friday--the 1976 version starring Jodi Foster and Barbara Harris and the 2003 version starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis!

These body-swapping classics see a mother and a daughter in crisis as they switch bodies to get to know one another better.

One version deals with a crappy father (we're talking about you, Gomez Addams) and the other deals with a creepy love interest (that means you, One Tree Hill guy!), but it's a lot of fun and a damn good time!

But this episode is in the Plotaholics universe, so of course we are all over the place as we also ended up discussing the Fast and the Furious franchise, Wonder Woman 1984, post-credits scenes and a bunch of other stuff as well. Go figure!

Kick back, relax, and let's ride!

(The) Bad News Bears (1976 vs 2005)

(The) Bad News Bears (1976 vs 2005)

The Plotaholics Summer Showdown continues as we look at two films released 30 years apart from one another. These two films are essentially the same, but one is still way better than the other.

We’re talking, of course, about 1976's The Bad News Bears, starring Walter Matthau, Tatum O’Neal, and Jackie Earle Haley and the 2005 remake starring Billy Bob Thornton, Greg Kinear, and Troy Gentile (Barry Goldberg).

This week we pick apart the themes of both films and make those comparisons of a timeless classic vs. its remake.

We also bring up G-Baby (RIP), meat and ‘taters, and a whole variety of other topics! It’s another amazing episode!

    School of Rock

Join The Plotaholics as they take a look back at the 2003 Jack Black-helmed music comedy, School of Rock

School of Rock tells the story of washed-up loser Dewey, who steals his roommate's identity to make money as a substitute teacher after being kicked out of his band, No Vacancy. At the school, Dewey befriends a bunch of super talented kids. He builds a rock band out of his classroom, and soon, they are ready for the Battle of the Bands.

The Plotaholics dig into this rock n' roll education as they discuss how Dewey would probably never be able to actually do what he does and whether that even matters at all. Also, what are all of those talented-ass kids up to now?

    Other points of discussion:

    • Wrestlemania
    • Next week's film, Hamlet 2
    • Smiley the Bartender's new role and contract negotiations
    • Bryan's second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
