Episode 138: Hispanic Heritage Month: The Funeral Home/Surge

We conclude Hispanic Heritage Month with a look at The Funeral Home, a horror movie from Argentina. We also talk about one of the most tense movies of the year. Plus, where does The Lost Boys rate as one of the all time great horror movies? We also debate the importance of Slumber Party Massacre, Verotika, and...Dire Straits?

The Lost Boys is one of the most revered vampire films of all time. Capturing the zeitgeist of the time, the movie is the perfect mix of horror, comedy. and music. With news of a remake, we talk about The Lost Boys' place in history and if we are excited to see the remake. We also talk the upcoming Slumber Party Massacre remake, The original stood out amongst other 1980s slashers for its female director, lack of Final Girl, and its treatment of women. Can the new one live up to that legacy or will it be another tired retread?

Surge is one of the most tense movies of the year. Filled with strong storytelling and great performances, the plot relies more on its characters and dialogue to tell a powerful story. We talk about the intensity of the performance, how it made us feel, and if we could relate to the protagonist. We also discuss why a movie that is this frenzied and chaotic may not be for everyone.

We conclude Hispanic Heritage Month with a trip to Argentina. The Funeral Home is a movie about a dysfunctional family that lives in their haunted funeral home. Sound design in a important part of horror movies. But are there times when there can be too much of a good thing? Character development is not the most important part of horror, but what happens when you can't stand anyone? Plus, long drawn out deaths and dying people who have a lot to say.

Eat! Drink! Smoke! - Episode 110 - Jack Daniels Single Barrel is a Must Drink, A Surprising Davidoff Year Of The Ox and the Knife and Fork McRib Review
Too many people think of Jack Daniels as an after thought. Those people are just wrong, and the 130.7 and 132.5 proof Jack Daniels Single Barrel, Barrel Proof whiskeys we taste test will prove it. Tony Katz (http://bit.ly/eatdrinksmoke) hosts Eat! Drink! Smoke! (http://facebook.com/eatdrinksmoke) A review of Jack Daniels, along with a review of the very surprising Davidoff Year of the Ox cigar (which, after hearing the podcast, you'll be maybe surprised to find that it's in Tony's humidor right now!) Also, a very joyful review of McDonald's McRib sandwich, which Tony ate with a knife and fork. (Yes, he knows that's not right.) Fingers Malloy (http://facebook.com/fingersmalloyradio) has the News of the Week, including a tequila bar in the UK that tried to get itself designated as a church so it could avoid coronavirus restrictions. A man bought a PlayStation 5, but told his wife it was an air purifier......she was not amused. A great list of some excellent cigar cutters you can buy this Christmas season, and meet the 8 year-old with the best mullet in America! Subscribe to the Podcast! Click Here!!
