Episode 387 - The Muppet Christmas Carol

On this episode, Steve Swanson formerly of The Muppetcast and J.D. Hansel of Muppet Hub Podcasts join me to look at the classic film "The Muppet Christmas Carol", an important film in the Muppet library that came out shortly after Jim Henson's death that features Kermit, Gonzo, and the gang alongside Michael Caine accompanied by a heartwarming soundtrack for a re-telling of the Charles Dickens classic novel.

Tales of the Cantina Episode 7

In this episode of Tales of the Cantina, Albert reflects on the “Dark Times” of Star Wars, the period of time between 1984 and 1991. Just how good do we have it now compared to then? Listen in and hear for yourself!

David Ankrum and Mark Dodson: The Voices of Wedge Antilles and Salacious B. Crumb

Now for something a little different: a double feature of two "vintage" interviews recorded LIVE earlier this year.

First up, we're talking to David Ankrum, voice of Wedge Antilles, as well as various voices in Rogue One.

The second interview of the day is with Mark Dodson, the man responsible for the most iconic laugh in the galaxy: Salacious Crumb. If you love stories about Ben Burtt and raccoons (and tid-bits from Gremlins, the Ewok TV Movies and more), this is the interview for you.

Simon J Williamson: Max Rebo, Gamorrean Guard and Nien Nunb

Simon J Williamson: Max Rebo, Gamorrean Guard and Nien Nunb

Simon J. Williamson is the performer for Max Rebo and many other iconic characters, including principal Gamorrean Guard, a Mon Cal Officer and even the blinks of Nien Nunb in Return of the Jedi.

If you’ve ever listened to this podcast before, you know how much I love the fascinating stories of the puppeteers and mime artists, especially from Jedi. And this is no exception.

Really buckle up because there's a pretty in-depth discussion about Max Rebo's biology (which has been researched in length by Mr. Pablo Hidalgo: https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-mysteries-getting-to-the-bottom-of-max-rebo

    114 Screenwriter James V Hart

    114 Screenwriter James V Hart

    Hook screenwriter James V Hart

So excited to talk with James V Hart this week!  James is the screenwriter of one of my all-time favorite movies, "Hook"!  He also wrote "Muppet Treasure Island" along with other great films like "Bram Stoker's Dracula", "Contact", and "August Rush".  And he was the creator of the show "Crossbones" for NBC a couple years back.

We go deep on "Hook" in this talk and get the real background of how the film came to be made.  There's a lot of incorrect information on the net and we set straight here.  We dig into the difficulty of casting Kermit the Frog in an appropriate role in "Muppet Treasure Island".  And we talk about how NBC destroyed "Crossbones" and turned into a totally different show than James sold them.

If you'd like to hear the episodes of "Being Blackbeard", the Crossbones podcast I did while the show was airing, there's a link to the zip file in the show notes for Ep 9.

Under The Crossbones is a podcast all about pirate culture.  Your host Phil Johnson (comedian, musician, and pirate geek) interviews the most interesting people in the pirate subculture: Actors, Authors, Historians, Musicians, Artists, Festival Founders, Clothing and Prop Designers, Treasure Hunters, Archaeologists, and more.

Heads up!  I'm coming to Orlando, FL Nov 3-4, 2017 to do two comedy shows!  Click here to get $10 tickets.
