Every time we talk to a Seattle hooper the name David King is always mentioned when talking about the best to come out of the area. The powerful frame, Olajuwon-like footwork and incredible basketball hands is what most opponents rave about. He was key to the memorable and historic State Championship win in 1998 with Rainier Beach High School. Although his high school teammate was NBA Legend Jamal Crawford, it was David King with the post-game interview shouting that he was going to Disneyland after the victory. 

King will forever be loved and respected in Seattle, but we feel that he needs to be recognized in the entire basketball world. He has continued to be an important contributor to the game by both coaching high school basketball and running The CrawsOver as the director/commissioner. The CrawsOver is one of the most recognized Pro-Ams in the country and we get to hear all about it here. Great stories were shared about growing up in Seattle, the hoops scene in the City, a historic title run, Jamal Crawford, Douglas Wrenn-El, Doug Christie, LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, The CrawsOver, getting the Sonics back, coaching, and MUCH more!

Don’t sleep on this episode! David King was such an incredible guest and we are forever grateful for the experience. We had so much fun with him and we can see why he was so loved and respected by those who know him. We know you’ll feel the same after hearing his story.

We got Seattle’s finest in the house today! Seattle is an absolute hotbed for basketball and has cooked up some of the best players around the league including Jamal Crawford, Isaiah Thomas, Nate Robinson and many others. One player was coined “a man amongst boys” during his playing days and ranks at the very top of most hoopers lists when you talk about the best of the best from the 206. It’s our pleasure to introduce to you, Douglas Wrenn-El.

Wrenn-El was a decorated prep star from O’Dea High School where he was a State Champion and earned State of Washington, Parade All-American, McDonald’s All-American & Gatorade Player of the Year awards and was a Top 25 recruit in the nation. He went on to play at UConn & Washington where his experiences from handlers, coaches and other wild events sent him on the overseas route rather than the NBA . Wrenn-El shares his shocking experiences with the law that led him to prison time for a crime that he did not commit. There is however a beautiful part to this story which is his journey to finding his peace and love.

BIG thanks to Douglas Wrenn-El for taking the time to share his basketball and life experiences with us. He was one of the most genuine, real, intelligent and honest people we have had the pleasure of meeting and we can’t thank him enough for being so gracious with his time. We know that his story is going to shine light on many issues whether its youth sports, college basketball, law or life. It’s clear that the Douglas Wrenn-El story doesn’t end here.

Welcome back my friends to the Derate The Hate podcast. Wilk here from WilksWorld.com and this week's topic may be a little more controversial than normal but I think it's worth the discussion. In fact, I think it's worth a lot of discussion and it's something that's come up before and will surely come up again on the podcast

Those who interject race into everything are the real racists. In recent weeks there was a fight, actually a preliminary fight to the Mike Tyson/Roy Jones Jr. fight where vlogger turned fighter, Jake Paul fought and knocked out Nate Robinson. I have no idea who either one of these guys are but know that Jake Paul is a white guy and Nate Robinson is black.

The only reason I know who Jamele Hill is  is because of some of the vile and hateful, flat out racist things she has said in the past. With that said, in an interview that she did with Jake Paul after the fight, she asked Paul if knocking out Nate Robinson was a racist move? Again, those who interject race into everything are the real racists. Check out the show and let me know your feedback!

This week's feel good story comes to us from Gulf Breeze, Fl where a small businessman Michael Esmond, owner of Gulf Breeze Pools and Spas has made a big difference for a lot of families this holiday season. In fact, 114 families are no longer in jeopardy of having the lights turned off this Christmas  due to Mr. Esmond's generosity. I love hearing about ordinary people doing extraordinary things and this story is no exception. Check out this weeks podcast to hear more or read about it here.
