Episode 21, re-release

On this episode we sit down with two of the most knowledgeable woodsmen we know.  Alan and Nathan discuss in detail the skills we can all improve on to become better woodsman.  If you're new to traditional bowhunting or hunting in general, or a seasoned veteran you can gain a lot of information from this one! 

Time is drawing near and soon those bachelor groups we've all been watching will start disbursing, antler will turn hard, testosterone will increase, and food sources will start to change.  As bowhunters, our job is to figure out how deer will adapt and relocate them.  There are a lot of subtleties that effect how animals move and use their surroundings.  On this episode Alan and Nathan discuss what some of those factor may be, now to identify them, and what to look for to key in on what to do next.  You'll definitely want to give this on a listen, and be on the look out for some videos on this topic soon!

Going back to the well with another woodsmanship episode!!  Great knowledge to learn or review, especially this time of year as our minds really start to get cranked up for fall, and we start to strategize about the upcoming season.

This week Nathan, Dalton, and Ethan sit down to discuss the differences between tactics and woodsmanship and how they correlate.  Lots of great nuggets to help keep things in perspective as we head into season!

This week we sit down with our old buddy and co-host Nathan Killen, an officially welcome our friend and new co-host Maribeth Kulynycz to discuss an often overlooked aspect of bow hunting.  It's ok if the animals win, in fact they should and do win over 90% of the time!  That's part of what makes bowhunting so much fun!  Accepting that and learning from those "failed encounters" can make us much better bowhunters.  

This week, it's another Woodsmanship!  Nathan is a shed hunting animal, and this week we discuss some of his tactics for finding sheds, but more importantly what information can be learned while shed hunting.  Woodsmanship is an ongoing, never ending process and any reason to get out in the woods is a good one!  There are tons of things to learn this time of year that you can store away for hunting season!

This week Alan, Nathan, and Ethan talk about facing challenges when things don't go according to plan.  Anyone that bow hunts long enough will eventually experience some disappointments along the way.  On this episode we discuss the importance of sticking with it learning to deal with those challenges.  Sometimes a bow hunter can do everything correctly, and the chips fall the in favor of our quarry.  But the hardships and obstacles only make the little victories that much sweeter!

If you haven't heard, our buddy Nathan Killen is officially part of the crew now!  Nathan has been a great buddy of ours for a while now and has always been a big part of what we do at The Stickboys,  and now he's official!  This week we catch up and talk about the upcoming season, some things we've got in the works, and dive into some of the subtleties of mature buck behavior.  

This week Nathan Killen joins in on the other side of the mic to chat with our good friend Alan Altizer about heading west to chase elk.  Alan goes over some great things for the new elk hunter to consider, from the perspective of an eastern mountain whitetail guy with a lot of western experience as well.  If you're thinking about getting your feet wet in the elk hunting game you should really check this one out!
