A Conversation with Dr. Peniel E. Joseph

A Conversation with Dr. Peniel E. Joseph

Dr. Peniel E. Joseph is a Professor of Public Affairs and the founding director for the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. His critically acclaimed new book, "The Sword and the Shield: The Revolutionary Lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.," argues for a new interpretation of these two historic civil rights leaders.

In this episode, Joseph looks at the lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., their markedly different backgrounds and influences, and their divergent but ultimately complementary roles in forging a civil rights "historic period."

182 - Nation of Yahweh Cult: Murder, Manipulation, and Black Supremacy

182 - Nation of Yahweh Cult: Murder, Manipulation, and Black Supremacy

At the height of its power in the late 1980s, the Miami-based Nation of Yahweh cult had satellite temples around the country and a lucrative business empire of apartment complexes, hotels, stores and fleets of Greyhound buses and Rolls Royce cars, all painted stark white. Its leader, Hulon Mitchell, jr., aka Yahweh ben Yahweh, estimated the sect's holdings at $100 million. And what did this cult believe? That white people are "devils" and that black Americans and Africans are the true Jews who should own Israel and that white Jews are the spawn of Satan. And what did this cult do? They killed a bunch of people and their leader molested and manipulated an untold number of followers in the craziest of ways. One of the wildest tales we've told so far!

Albert Mohler: Facebook’s Move Gives Cause for Concern

Albert Mohler: Facebook’s Move Gives Cause for Concern

Facebook has removed seven people identified as “extremists.”

The New York Times reported it this way:

After years of wavering about how to handle the extreme voices populating its platform, Facebook … evicted seven of its most controversial users, many of whom are conservatives, immediately inflaming the debate about the power and accountability of large technology companies.

Louis Farrakhan of the nation of Islam and Alex Jones of the Infowars website were among those evicted.

But the Times made a point of identifying them as “conservative.”

Are we looking at a more ominous threat?

The question is: Is this the beginning of excising all unwanted speech from Facebook?

We don’t have any assurances that this is not the case.

And we know well the political and cultural climate at Facebook. When you consider the fact that 2.4 billion people on the planet use Facebook, we have every reason to be concerned.

A Terrifying Chapter in Austin and a First Amendment Battle at the Supreme Court

A Terrifying Chapter in Austin and a First Amendment Battle at the Supreme Court

    Townhall Review -- March 24, 2018

Mike Gallagher talks about the Austin, TX bombing as well as this week’s shooting incident at a Great Mills, Maryland school that was minimized by a fast-acting, courageous officer. Veteran FBI profiler James Fitzgerald, goes inside the mind of the Austin bomber, just like he did with Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, who he helped stop. Michael Medved invites ADF President Michael Farris to share the latest on an important Supreme Court case with huge First Amendment implications. Julianne Benzel sits in with Dennis Prager to share about how her suggestion of having students protest abortion backfired. Larry Elder turns to Jesse Lee Peterson, a South Los Angeles community leader, author and radio host to talk about Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam and his recent racial taunts against whites and Jews. Hugh Hewitt invites Jon Erwin, producer of "I Can Only Imagine" to share about his experience making the faith-based movie.
