    After the Buzzer: Team USA-lite???

    After the Buzzer: Team USA-lite???

It is officially FIBA World Cup 2023, and Team USA won their first showcase game with arguably the youngest squad they've ever employed, with many notable names opting out (presumably until the 2024 Olympics).  Amongst those players are young stars: Jaren Jackson Jr., Anthony Edwards, Brandon Ingram, Jalen Brunson, and Mikal Bridges who make up this year's starting group.

We break down what we think of this year's FIBA World Cup roster including it's coaching staff, the idea that many notable names who've opted out of FIBA may be playing in their final Summer Olympics next year (including Lebron James), and how exactly we think this team will look next year.  Also, with controversy arising regarding Team USA losing to the USA Select Team in a scrimmage, we give our thoughts on just how big of a deal this is (SPOILER ALERT: It's not).

Finally, we talk about what happened in their victory against Puerto Rico, and how we think this team is different from every other iteration of Team USA we've seen thus far.  With that said, things will be ramping up soon as we get to more exhibition play this week, and the tournament to follow, so please keep it locked in here with your favorite Basketball podcast!  See you next week!

After the Buzzer: Is SlamBall better than the NBA?!

After the Buzzer: Is SlamBall better than the NBA?!

As the game of basketball grows, so does its entertainment value, and as that continues to grow, the interest of the fans tends to grow.  Unfortunately for the NBA that hasn't exactly translated to great numbers over the last few years, but with the introduction of outside leagues like "The Big 3" and "SlamBall" we can't help but wonder if these new leagues will bring healthy competition to the NBA and whether or not the fans will return.

With that said, a lot of negotiations have been going on in the NBA world, with a new CBA recently being agreed upon, the introduction of a brand new "Flopping" Technical Foul Rule, and the possibility of team expansion with Seattle and Las Vegas being eyed for new-ish (in the case of Seattle) Franchises.

Either way, we as super fans of the sport hope that the community and sport in it's purest form can bring back the fan base so that we don't have to see the implementation of weird gimmicks in order to see the sport succeed.  Which side are you on?  Is progress for the sake of entertainment a good thing? Or should an age-old sport be left as it is so that future fans can appreciate its origins?  Let us know on Twitter, Threads, Instagram, or wherever you're following us!

Beal trade to Suns, NBA Draft talk

Beal trade to Suns, NBA Draft talk

So much news to get to this week that it took a few minutes even to get to the NBA Draft. But they got to it.

First up was the news of the Bradley Beal  trade to the Phoenix Suns. Did anyone win? Phoenix got its man but at the possible exception of roster depth, which was already its biggest weakness. Can Beal and Kevin Durant stay healthy? Can a "big three" roster work in the world of the modern CBA? Corey Robinson and Kurt Helin of NBC Sports debate all that then move on to the Ja Morant suspension and if 25 games is the right number.

From there it's time to discuss Draymond Green and Kyle Kuzma turning down their player options, was that the right move? Then what about the start to the WNBA season and just how impressive is Breanna Stewart (very, very impressive)? Finally, we move on to Corey's Jukebox and tie Mat Ishbia's Suns into Gang Starr.

In Kurt's Korner they run through Kurt's consensus NBA Mock Draft for the lottery. He feels pretty good about Victor Wembanyama going No. 1 to the Spurs, after that just about everything is up in the air.

We're here to discuss and offer insight as to whether or not they'll actually end up being traded and what teams we deem as the best fit if they are.

Talking NBA Draft, what will Portland do with Sean Highkin

Talking NBA Draft, what will Portland do with Sean Highkin

Here's what we know for sure: The San Antonio Spurs will select Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. After that, it could be chaos with Charlotte at No. 2 and Portland at No. 3 open to trading their picks (as is Houston at No. 4), with names as big as Zion Williamson potentially in play.

It's going to be a wild night next Thursday and Sean Highkin of the Rose Garden Report and podcast joined Kurt Helin of NBC Sports to discuss the Portland Trail Blazers plans. First, that does not include a Damian Lillard trade, the plan in Portland remains to build around the greatest player in franchise history and win with him there. Building around Lillard means the Trail Blazers want to trade the No. 3 pick as a lot of teams covet Scoot Henderson, but will Charlotte trade its No. 2 pick for that reason before Portland can act? Or do the Hornets take Brandon Miller and let Scoot fall to three?

Also, is New Orleans really ready to move on from Zion? Is Brandon Ingram in play at all? And what other teams would have interest in a big, bold move to jump up to a top-three pick to land Scoot or Miller? Also, the duo talks about all the expected trades in the late teens and 20s as contenders try to round out their rosters with affordable rookie contracts, a byproduct of the new CBA.

The NBA's Terrible Schedule + NFL Conference Championships

The NBA's Terrible Schedule + NFL Conference Championships

The Golden State Warriors coach opted to rest several of his starters in Friday night’s 120-114 win against the Cavaliers in Cleveland — something many in the league have been trying to stop teams from doing in recent years.

But, considering they played on Thursday night, Kerr decided to rest Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins. With where they’re at in the season, and with Curry coming off a shoulder injury, there’s no need to push his stars to play and risk them getting hurt.

While it’s not something anyone likes to see, Kerr does have a solution.

He wants the schedule to be cut down by 10 games.

From Jalen Hurts’s breakthrough season to a deep investment in the trenches to a master class in coaching from Nick Sirianni, here is how the Philadelphia Eagles built themselves into the NFC favorite.

Rest easy, Chiefs fans: Patrick Mahomes appears to be on track to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes was a full participant in Kansas City's Wednesday practice. The quarterback adopted a positive stance regarding his high ankle sprain when speaking Wednesday, telling media members he's "excited to get on the practice field and kind of test it out and see where I'm at."

Lakers, Clippers, and Jokic as Beethoven

Lakers, Clippers, and Jokic as Beethoven

Anthony Davis has played at an MVP-level for weeks now, outdueling even Giannis Antetokounmpo recently in a Lakers' win. LeBron James is still a force at age 37, Russell Westbrook has accepted the role and been a game-changer as a sixth man, and the Lakers' role players are hitting their 3-pointers. It's been an impressive run, but can the Lakers keep it up and be a threat in the West? Corey Robinson and Kurt Helin of NBC Sports discuss all that, plus whether the now-healthy Clippers can find a groove and become a threat. In Corey's Jukebox he dances a little salsa and explains how Nikola Jokic is like Beethoven. Then there is talk of the Kyle Kuzma trade rumors, and what exactly are the long-term plans in Washington.
