The Bible recognizes one source of dreams: all dreams proceed from God. In the 33rd chapter of the Book of Job we are told that God speaks to man in two ways, but man does not perceive it. Then it states the two ways: “In a dream and a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while they slumber on their beds; then he opens the ears of men and seals their instruction” (33:14).

Now, you tell that to a psychiatrist, he will think you are insane. He will tell you that all dreams are from the individual dreamer, because he separates the dreamer from God. He does not understand what you are talking about. God’s eternal name is I AM, so who is dreaming? Well, I am…well, that’s God…that’s his name forever and forever.

So I’m not separating the dreamer from God. All dreams proceed from God. Some are simple and you need no interpreter; others are revealed in a symbolic language which is not understood and then you need the interpreter.

The Only God Is I AM 3/10/1969

The only God that man will never outgrow and therefore never lose is the God he knows in the first-person, present-tense experience. When he finds this God, he then tells his brothers, “As you are told in scripture, if I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.” He comes to reveal God as the eternal contemporary, and man finds it difficult, almost impossible to keep the tense, for he reveals God as I AM. “Unless you believe that I am (is) he, you die in your sins” (Jn.8:24). No man who will think of God in the third-person knows God. When you address God in the second-person you do not know God. You will only know God in the first-person, in a present-tense experience.

We are told that God became man that man may become God. And you may think that you are the man and God is the other that became you. Tonight I would have you reverse that: you are the God that became man that man may become you.

If I understand scripture correctly and if my visions which parallel scripture are accurate, and I know they are, I tell you that what I just told you is true. Then we are told in the 82nd Psalm that we shall die like men: “I say that you are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, you will die like men, and fall as one man, O princes” (verses 1, 6).

So we were the gods who became men that men may become as we are. So here we find ourselves today in the world of men. Now we are told, the day will come that we will tell posterity…posterity will serve us and tell of the Lord who wrought it…who actually brought about the deliverance of man.

So you and I actually became humanity that humanity may become as we are. This I do know from my own personal mystical experience. So reverse it, don’t think that you are some little worm and then God became as you are that you may be as he is.

You were God and therefore you are God. You became man that man may become you, and that you is God. So you take the whole thing and reverse it and then you’ll have an entirely different feeling about it.

Tonight’s subject is “Foreknowledge.” We’re told in scripture that “Thus said the Lord of hosts, ‘As I have planned, so shall it be; as I have purposed, so shall it stand. And the Lord will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his mind’” (Is. 14:24; Jer. 23:20). Now the structure of God’s plan is given us in the Book of Romans. Here we have it in five terms: “Those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified” (8:29).

Now here, in these five terms we have a very strong case for predestination, and there is no way that you can interpret these terms and avoid that conclusion. But does it rob us on this level of our freedom?—no. “He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6). He will bring it to completion. But on the surface of his being, where we are, while that work is taking place in us we are not robbed of our freedom. On the contrary, the certainty that our salvation is in the hand of God frees us from worldly anxieties; and then we can say with Paul, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37).

Tonight’s subject is “The Mystery of Imagination.” I could have titled it “The Mystery of God, the Mystery of Man, the Mystery of Christ.” It would have been the same thing. But I took for tonight the use of the word Imagination—it would not offend. But these three are interchangeable words. So here, I imagine as do you. We cannot imagine differently. All the differences lie in content. And so, we ask the little question “Who am I?” and our response to that question determines content…and there we differ. The whole vast world differs based upon their response to that enormous question, which we find in scripture. Who am I? I could tell you that you are God. You wouldn’t believe it. You can read it in scripture: “Be still and know that I am God.” You’ll read it in the 46th Psalm, but you won’t believe it. If I told you that you are Christ, you might be offended; you may have some external concept of a being and you call him Christ. When I say that you do imagine, that wouldn’t offend you because you know we do imagine. And you may not believe for one moment that this power of imagining is the power of God, but, nevertheless, you do imagine. That wouldn’t offend anybody.

I make the statement that imagining creates reality and I mean that seriously. That man should live as if it were true, just as if it were true—I don’t care what it is, the most incredible thing in the world—as if it were true. And if he is faithful to that assumption and lives in that state, it will come to pass…of that I’m convinced and I know from personal experience.

So I repeat that imagining creates reality. The greatest steps forward in this world were made by men and women who imagined as if it were. That’s what they did. They simply imagined things as if they were. And they rebuilt a world based upon the imaginal acts of these bold spirits that imagined as if it were. When man begins to imagine as if things were as he would like them to be, he breaks the bond. For he’s a bond, he’s a slave. Until he knows how to imagine and actually lives by it and applies it, he remains a slave in this world until that moment in time comes when that from above is born. Well then, whether he has it or doesn’t have it, he is set free. That’s the real freedom that comes to man.

New ideas require many reiterations and restatements before they become part of the generally accepted currency of thought. The idea that I’ve been trying to get over since I started back in 1938 is still new. It comes as a shock to anyone who hears it. And even after you’ve heard it for years and years, and think you’re living by it, I’ve discovered that one is not really living by it. It has not yet become a part of their thinking. And it is that imagining creates reality.

I say this because I identify imagining with God in action. To me, man is all imagination and God is man and exists in us and we in him. The eternal body of man is the imagination. And that is God himself. If by God, I mean the creator of the universe, the maker and the master of the whole vast universe and I identify that creator with the human imagination, then man should be more careful as to what he’s imagining. So, I can give lip service to the statement imagining creates reality. And yet if I’m observant in the course of a day, if I observe what I’m imagining, I would find unnumbered moments in my life, in one twenty-four hours or other, the waking eighteen, where I am imagining things I do not wish to experience

If I really believe that imagining creates reality, I would be more careful, more concerned about what I’m imagining. So, I will give it lip service and say imagining creates reality and go blindly on imagining anything other than what I want to create, beginning with the morning paper and reacting to things that you do not know, whether they be true, they could be planted by some press agent, planted by some lobbyists. You do not know. And here we react as we read and then we go through life in just twenty-four hours and find that most of the twenty-four hours we spend imagining what we do not wish to experience.

If man would only look upon the world as a world of appearance, behind which the reality of imagining lay, he would find the truth, he would find God.

We Are Witnesses

“We are Witnesses.” Everyone is a witness to God’s Promise. We’re told in the 44th chapter of Isaiah…in fact, it starts with a question, “Who has announced from of old the things to come? Let them tell us what is yet to be. Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock, I know not any” (Is.44:7). So he tells every one of us, you and I were all in God in the beginning. This is not an accident—we’re all contained within him—it’s a purpose, it’s a plan. We saw exactly what God’s purpose was, every one of us, no one left out. Now, what is a witness? A witness is one who has first-hand information of a fact or an event.

We’re told in scripture that the evidence of two or three, if they should agree, it is conclusive. If two or three witnesses agree in testimony, it is conclusive, but you cannot on the testimony of one man. There must be two or more. Now we are told that scripture is God’s testimony. This is what man must testify to. And he testifies to it by telling the story not as hearsay but of his own personal experience.

Here we find the words, “That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we have actually seen and touched with our hand, of the word of life, that declare we unto you” (1 John 1:1). There now are the witnesses.

My subject this morning is taken from the First Epistle of John. Now these twenty-one letters (or as we call them, epistles) are not really addressed to individuals or groups.

They are mysteries, as is the entire Bible. Whether the Bible in the Old Testament tells the story in the form of history, or whether they tell it in the form of a parable, or whether in the form of a letter, they are all revelations of the mind of God expressed in symbolism. Now, I do not claim that I can give you an exhaustive interpretation of any single story of the Bible.

Because they are revelations of the mind of the Infinite, no single interpretation could ever be exhaustive. On one level it may be true, and then you and I expand in consciousness and we reread the letter and see it differently, and a further expansion in consciousness causes us . . even when we reread it for the fiftieth time . . to still see the letter in a different light. So in this morning's interpretation I will try to keep it on a level that is most practical.

We are told in the First John, 5: "This is He that came by water and blood even Jesus Christ, not by water only, but by water and blood." So these are symbols of birth.

Every natural birth in the world is accompanied by the flowing of water and blood. It's trying to tell the individual of a certain mystery of birth, but he uses the words Christ Jesus and that is the symbol of a truly mysterious birth . . something out of nothing. That is the mystery. Out of death, life. Man cannot conceive it.

How can something alive come out of that which is dead . . how can something come out of nothing? Man accepts it in the mineral world, for he sees, if he goes back far enough in time (he could push the mystery in some remote past), he will accept the fact that sometime, in a way not known to modern science, out of non-organic substance came organism.
