Mark Turcotte — Dear New Blood

Mark Turcotte — Dear New Blood

A poet reads to a room full of youths who seem to have some residual resentment to the poet. The poet doesn’t mind — he understands, and calls on the listeners to share in the power of focused anger, to make it a motivation for their creativity.

Mark Turcotte (Turtle Mountain Ojibwe) is the author of The Feathered Heart (Michigan State University Press, 1998) and Exploding Chippewas (Triquarterly Books, 2002). He lives in Chicago, where he teaches at DePaul University.

We’re pleased to offer Mark Turcotte’s poem, and invite you to connect with Poetry Unbound throughout this season.

#22 - FAITH: The Unholy Trinity (Satanic 8bit Panic)

#24 Set in Stone: The Twisted Worlds of Amid Evil

#24 Set in Stone: The Twisted Worlds of Amid Evil

Nothing looks quite like Amid Evil. Released from the murky ambiguity of Early Access into the sunlit uplands of actual completion in 2019, the fantasy shooter by developer Indefatigable has a genuinely unique aesthetic. Even moreso than its eminently solid gameplay, it is the visuals and level design of Amid Evil which elevate the game into being one of the best examples in the recent retro shooter boom.

    Episode 009 - New Blood

    Episode 009 - New Blood

When you start a new hobby or business or job there can be a transition period where you feel like a bit of a poser. There are also those who don't have the credentials yet feel like they have truly become the thing they emulate. Tom talks about what it has been like breaking into the birding world this past year. Is feeling like a poser all in his head? And how badly can he mess up a rare bird sighting? Meanwhile, Hardee kills us with his least-favorite Christmas tradition and then tells us what it's like to have a sword swinging at your head. Originally recorded before Thanksgiving, we also ask the very important question: does The Birdman eat turkey??
