Episode 44 - The New Cold War

Episode 44 - The New Cold War

Ultimately, our freedoms and rights power the innovative culture that makes the United States the most successful political experiment in history. Even with its historical warts, America has improved the living standards of its citizens more than any human culture that has ever existed. Democracy, protection of individual freedoms, harnessing the power of diversity while creating a strong collective identity. These are strengths that China and Russia will never have without a revolution. This makes me optimistic that we still have what it takes to win The New Cold War. We just need the right leaders, united in mission, to galvanize the public into believing in the power of a United States of America. It’s been said that politicians only act when there’s fire in the living room. Guess what? There is fire in the living room. We can do this!

31| Paper Tiger Imperialism and the US-Beijing Boycott (Mini-Episode)

31| Paper Tiger Imperialism and the US-Beijing Boycott (Mini-Episode)

For this episode, Miguel did something a little different. First, Miguel read the article he wrote last month on Antincopquista.com called "Paper Tiger Imperialism and the US-Beijing Boycott."

If you missed it, on December 6, 2021, the Biden Administration announced a Diplomatic Boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, which will begin in 10 days, on February 4, 2022. The Boycott is one of many current smear campaigns against China from Washington.

Now, we will make one thing clear: We believe in abolishing the Olympics and have been critical of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) corruption in the past, but we are anti-imperialists first, and we will defend China against the Cold War rhetoric and lies pushed by the US government, its allies, and the US corporate media, which acts as the PR arm of the US government.

To end the podcast, Miguel has a little fun at the expense of White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki talking about margaritas because the Democrats are incompetent and don't care about working-class people.

The Rise of Modern China w/ Dr. Ken Hammond PhD (Part 2 of 2)

What's up to my luscious leopards and tassel-tipped tanagers!

Welcome back to the BNP everyone and thank you for joining! This episode is slightly abridged and coming out early because I am going camping this weekend up on the Utah-AZ border. I'm stoked. :) But enough about me.

This episode we welcome back esteemed writer and historian Dr. Ken Hammond PhD. Dr. Hammond is a professor of East Asian history and founder of the Confucius Institute at New Mexico St. University. He is also an activist for Pivot to Peace: https://peacepivot.org/.

Dr. Hammond continues our deep dive into the rise of modern China since the 1949 Communist Revolution.  We tackle the years of the so-called Cultural Revolution, including its internal facets, flaws and unreported benefits. Importantly, it is a fair and nuanced assessment of an event that is universally demonized and exaggerated in the West.

We then touch on China's guiding ideology as it has evolved over the years, and how the presidency of Xi Jinping has signaled a noticeable shift away from Capitalist oligarchic corruption and towards the Socialist vision that animated the revolution. China's anti-corruption campaign is working, and they are leading the world in the field of green and renewable technology.

To save the planet, we as Americans need to work together with China whether we like it or not, and sabre rattling from the Pentagon is both unproductive and dangerous.

Finally, Dr. Hammond recounts his experience at Kent St. University on the very day in 1970 when National Guardsmen opened fire on students, killing 4, paralyzing 1 and injuring many others. Fascinating to have a firsthand account of that horrible day.

Thank you for listening and supporting the BNP!  Spread the word and tell a friend!

What's up to my belly-laughing bamboo shoots and burly baby pandas!

Welcome back to the BNP everyone and thank you for joining! Shout out to my patrons, y'all are the butter flavor in my movie popcorn.

This episode I'm thrilled to feature historian and author Dr. Kenneth Hammond, PhD. Dr. Hammond received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in History and East Asian Languages in 1994. He specializes in the history of China in the Early Modern period, and is the founder of the Confucius Institute at New Mexico State University.

Since 2017, Dr. Hammond has been affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. He has been a lecturer for the National Geographic Society and for the Smithsonian Institution. Finally, Dr. Hammond is a writer and activist for Pivot to Peace, a coalition of concerned Americans from all walks of life, who have come together in opposition to the dramatically increasing drive toward confrontation between the United States and China. You can check it out at: https://peacepivot.org/.

Dr. Hammond so generously jumped on the BNP to unpack two critical junctures in modern Chinese history: The Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution.

It is so important to have a materialist, non-bias awareness around these foundational chapters in recent Chinese history. Equally important is to push back against the many misconceptions held in the U.S. about China.

This two part series with Dr. Hammond is my effort to dispel stereotypes and common tropes, and help my fellow citizenry to have a greater and more nuanced understanding of the forces and events that have shaped modern China.

This episode, Part One, covers The Great Leap Forward. Next week, I'll post Part Two, where we cover the Cultural Revolution.

What you should know about the new Cold War

What you should know about the new Cold War

"Where America slams a door, China immediately appears to knock in" - goes the popular saying and we see it becoming a reality in 21st-century geopolitical trends. Will the US be able to prevent a China-Russia alliance at the dawn of the new Cold War? How can we understand better Chinese foreign policy? Is the Belt and Road initiative actually a framework for expanding China's global influence or more of a "domestic" project? Guest: Gergely Salát, China expert, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Hosts: Attila Demkó, Head of the Center for Geopolitics, MCC; Péter Heltai, Editor of Corvinak.hu, MCC.

    -----------------------

Házigazda: Demkó Attila, a Geopolitikai Műhely vezetője, MCC; Heltai Péter, a Corvinák.hu szerkesztője, MCC.
