The Delta, E50 - Lost Levels: Irrelevant Entertainment

The Delta, E50 - Lost Levels: Irrelevant Entertainment

Kristina (Ed. ASL Interpreter) & Nicholas (Ed. PD Trainer) reflect on working with the POD for 50 episodes, the toilet paper truthful origins of The Delta, and the way they navigate the irrelevant aspects of politics and avoid the anger-laced entertainment. Digging into the show's history, they discuss how Episode 3 over Pragmatism was never published and remains a Lost Level (of Mario Philosophy). Revisiting this paradigm how their lens have shifted working on The Delta... from Pluto be demoted as a planet to comparing the current republican primary circus with their own three children on summer break.

    Filtering Your Admissions Newsfeed

    Filtering Your Admissions Newsfeed

Mainstream media organizations have long covered the admissions process closely. And when those efforts are combined with observations and commentary across the digital spectrum, the results can feel dizzying and overwhelming to prospective applicants as well as parents. In this episode of Admissions Beat, host Lee Coffin and his guest dean provide context and perspective on the big headlines and related issues in the current admissions news cycle — including rankings, test-optional admissions policies, artificial intelligence (as it relates to application essays) and legal challenges to race as a factor in admissions. They also share tips on how to navigate the rush of information and quiet the noise. Coffin, the dean of admissions and financial aid at Dartmouth, is joined by Ronné Turner, vice provost of admissions and financial aid at Washington University in St. Louis, along with two journalists: Charlotte Albright, a longtime public radio reporter, and Jacques Steinberg, a former national education correspondent for The New York Times.

    Space to Grieve

    Space to Grieve

What can we do when the weight of the world becomes too heavy?

Amid a gun violence epidemic that’s ravaging communities across the US, attacks on American history curriculums in classrooms, and failures from elected officials to protect voting and abortion rights, American democracy is in crisis.

But Michael McBride, a pastor and community organizer, is showing us what a practice of persistence during times of despair can look like. With more than 20 years in ministry, McBride bridges the church and community organizations to work on some of the biggest systemic issues of our times: mass incarceration, gun violence, police reform. Regarded as a national faith leader, McBride took part in the Ferguson uprisings and the many that followed. And today, he continues to lend training and support to young people and religious organizations working towards Black liberation.

On this episode of Into America, host Trymaine Lee speaks with Pastor McBride about how to soothe the enduring grief of this moment and what we can do to push onwards.

The Nuts discuss the news cycle, and the rise and fall of the Oscars slap. Elon Musk invests in Twitter, and the Nuts discuss whether or not he’s Bruce Wayne. Censorship comes up. The conversation turns to Bridgerton, Netflix, and short movies vs. long movies that should now be streaming series. David and Alec remember their favorite 80s childhood cartoons/current film franchises. Lindsey remembers Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

You don't need to be on top of EVERYTHING

Do you ever feel like there is too much coming at you? In the nineties researchers called it the CNN Effect. They found that 24-hour news coverage made it harder for politicians to make calm and measured decisions. Let’s figure out how to take in the news we need, and not get overwhelmed by the never-ending stream of information that’s out there.

    Screw Doom-Scrolling: Try Joy-Scrolling instead!

Go on admit it, we all love a little doom-scroll from time to time. You're checking out videos on TikTok and suddenly you’re three articles deep into bad news about the state of the world (and being in a global pandemic with a 24 hour news cycle doesn’t help). Try these steps next time you gear up for a scrolling sesh – and bring a bit of joy back into your screen time.
