It's time once again for Collaboratory, where four Smash Fic hosts attempt to cobble together a semi-coherent film using random characters and story elements!

This week, Claire is joined by Dan, Kit, and Liz, who have the unenviable task of attempting to craft a tale around a little girl, a cat, a dragon, and a serial killer, all while using elements from stories like Chronicles of Riddick, Jingle All the Way, and 1984. The hosts end up with a pile of really incongruous stuff, and end up making... something that actually kind of works? Listen and judge for yourself!

After weeks of popular protest, Armenia's Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was replaced by opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan. Atheists in the Bible Museum! For the first half of the show, we talk with FFRF attorney and Director of Strategic Response Andrew Seidel about our visit to the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC. Andrew describes many of the inaccuracies and exaggerations in the less-than-objective institution. Then FFRF Director of Communications Amit Pal interviews Annie Laurie and Dan about the 40-year history of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, established as a national group on April 5, 1978.

With a beautiful collaboration between J Rieger and Co and Tom to create a new midwestern style Gin, the creator is returning to fine form. We chat celebrity, Benedict Cumberbatch, and the proof of Gin.

This week’s show is dedicated to the memory of FFRF’s principal founder Anne Nicol Gaylor, who died June 14 at the age of 88. After reporting some FFRF state/church victories (which continue Anne’s legacy), we listen to Anne’s voice (“Is it reasonable; is it kind?”), and read from the New York Times obituary/article about her. Then we read two of Anne Gaylor's articles from her 1983 book, Lead Us Not Into Penn Station.

Delving into Uncle Ira's Basement once again, Frank Dietz and Frank Woodward also take a trip back in history to examine and enjoy fond memories of EXCALIBUR, John Boorman's 1981 glorious, violent, sexy vision of the King Arthur legends.

Starring Nigel Terry, Helen Mirren, Nicol Willamson and a round table of upcoming film stars including Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart, EXCALIBUR imagines the tale of Arthur's Camelot as a bloody, down-in-the-dirt fantasy epic that forever raised the bar of expectations on the Sword and Sorcery film genre.

Woodward and Dietz relate seeing the film in 1981 as a highlight of their young moviegoing lives and libidos in its "Brian Blessed-level of acting" style during the new age of cable television. EXCALIBUR still holds a strong spell on audiences imaginations, and Boorman's armor-clad epic is very worth viewing today so check it out. One day, a King will come, and the Sword will rise... again!
