Sleepy Hollow: The Reckoning
Happy Wine Wednesday! It's the holiday season and shows are on hiatus, so it's the perfect time to discover new faves and take the occasional trip down memory lane to revisit past shows. In the previous episode, Reverend Solomon Missouri and I discussed a new fave - The Bear. This week, I'm switching gears and revisiting a show that had so much potential and then completely alienated its audience in an astonishing fashion - Sleepy Hollow.
I'm joined this week by Stacey and Tamara to unpack our very complicated relationship with this series. The discussion is broken out into two parts. In part 1, we discuss the Sleepy Hollow pilot and revisit the magic of Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie on screen. As always, the pilot discussion is spoiler free and limited to the events of the pilot only.
In part 2 of the discussion, we talk about the series as a whole and pull no punches. We get into the terrible treatment of Abbie Mills as a character and Nicole Beharie as an actress. We discuss the writers biggest crimes against the audience and the many, many times the show completely wasted the potential of its talented cast. It was a long overdue, cathartic conversation about a show that went from being must see television to me blocking most of the writers' room on social media after their poor responses to valid criticisms from the fans.
Check the chapter markers to see where part 2 of the discussion begins (roughly around the 1:16:00 mark).
Friendly reminder: we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a good time!

‘Volver’ with ‘Miss Juneteenth’ Writer & Director Channing Godfrey Peoples
Katie Walsh returns to take over hosting duties this week, and she is joined by the truly talented filmmaker, Channing Godfrey Peoples. The movie that Channing has chosen to discuss is Pedro Almodóvar’s classic, Volver. Channing elaborates on the relationship between Almodóvar’s film and her latest, Miss Juneteenth. She explains how both movies are about the struggles of women and the work that women do in order to survive. Channing also chats about the writing of her film, how it was written in a Texan dialect, and how there are specific differences between the way people talk in Fort Worth and Houston. And lastly, Channing covers the importance of naming her film Miss Juneteenth.

Miss Juneteenth, 7500, Wasp Network, Infamous
This week, we're kicking the show off with a brief conversation about The Last of Us Part II, plus some listener feedback about political ideologies informing our film reviews. Then we kick off the week's new releases with Miss Juneteenth, a recent Sundance family drama starring Nicole Beharie. We also fasten our seatbelts for a review of 7500, a claustrophobic hijacking thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt in his first film role since 2016. Will shares his thoughts on the new Netflix spy thriller Wasp Network, which has a huge cast including Penélope Cruz, Ana de Armas, Édgar Ramirez, and more. And we finish the show out with a drive-in feature called Infamous, which stars Bella Thorne and Jake Manley.
