    Dr Emily - Merry Not-Enoughmas

For some people, Christmas Day is the most wonderful time of the year. But for others, catching up with friends and family at this time of the year can lead to pain and sadness and as Dr Emily describes it, an overwhelming feeling of “not-enoughness”.

In this special bonus episode, Dr Emily explains where this feeling comes from and why it pops up year after year. But as always she gives us some helpful advice on what we can do to address it and feel a little less alone this Christmas.

So from us to you, on this Season Finale… Merry Not-Enoughmas.

    The Ma Wound of Inadequacy

    The Ma Wound of Inadequacy

"There is not inadequacy in magic, in the bringing in of life" - Alara Sage

Inadequacy is something that all mothers experience.  But why do we experience it?  In this episode, Alara Sage takes you on a journey through her process on the morning of this recording to give you a deep understanding of this wound.

    Key learning points:

    • Innocence holds the energy of trust and authenticity.
    • Childhood experiences can lead to the loss of innocence and a closed heart.
    • Embracing innocence in sexual energy can lead to healing and a deeper connection with oneself.
    • The mother wound is a deep wound that needs to be acknowledged and healed.
    • The creative process requires non-attachment and the freedom to create and destroy.
    • Honoring the creative process and witnessing creation is an honor.

    Second Best // Chance Holt

    Second Best // Chance Holt

Have you ever been treated like "second best"? Or maybe there is a time in your life that you have felt rejected? In this message, Chance Holt shares how to overcome feelings of rejection and walk in your identity in Christ

If so, you are in good company. We see in scripture where Jesus was rejected, on multiple occasions.

Genesis 29:31-35 / Leah just wants to be accepted.

    What is Rejection?
The act of not accepting, believing, or considering something.
We have all had a time in our life when we felt not considered?
There are multiple ways to respond to rejection. We see them expressed by emotions, but all these emotions start by believing a lie that the enemy is telling you.

John 10:10 / the thief's purpose is to steal kill and destroy.

    Lie #1
Jesus doesn't understand, because he didn't experience rejection like me.
John 7:5 / for even his brothers didn't believe  in him. Jesus experienced a lot of rejection from family and friends.

    Lie #2
He didn't experience the pain that I do though, because he is Jesus
Hebrews 4:15/ This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testing we do, yet he did not sin.

How do we overcome and make it through rejection?

    1) Pursue a relationship with Healthy Christians
    Proverbs 18:24
*Here at VFC. It looks like Lifegroups, school of ministry, MT's, Youth Group/children, Young Adults, Sunday mornings and other groups
    around town

    2) Expect rejection
    Matthew 13:57
*Jesus made sure that he looked different from the world.
Therefore he expected to be rejected. Do you look different?
(Don't be a people pleaser, speak the truth with love.)

    3) Live a life of forgiveness and love
    Luke 6:28&29, 31

    4) Base your worth on God's plan and love for you. Ephesians 1:5&6
*The thing that got Jesus through this world, was knowing God's love and purpose for him.
*The only way for us to not allow lasting results from rejection is by knowing God's love for us.
(There is value in your purpose when your purpose is found in God)

Christians have the same problems as the world, we just have a better solution.

Matthew 27:39-44 / while experiencing some of the worst rejection and pain known to man, hanging on the cross. Jesus performed another miracle.

This miracle was for us all. It was the miracle of REDEMPTION.

Redeem- to gain or regain possession of (to buy back). The complete opposite of rejection.

Matthew 1:1-16 / Our God is so big and mighty that he used a bloodline of a completely rejected and unwanted woman named Leah to bring our savior into this world.

Are you believing the lies of the enemy? Or do you find your value through the rejection in God's purpose for you?

    42. Do You Feel Like You're Not Enough or Too Much?

Do you ever feel like you're not enough or like you're too much?

I want to talk about this today because I recently got a question from a beautiful woman and I helped her find some answers but I thought, I'm going to speak to this because this was an issue in our relationship and even just in my life. This issue would play out in my relationship and I see it with couples all the time.

So if you don't feel capable or skilled enough or good enough or the right person to do the thing you want to do, this episode is for you.

    Ep 70 Feeling Overworked?

    Ep 70 Feeling Overworked?

Join Catherine in this episode as she explores what happens when we give so much of ourselves to support others be that in personal relationships, working relationship or in a volunteering capacity. This episode endeavours to find a balance between doing and being, caring for others and caring for self. It tries to illuminate the truth that your needs are as important as the needs of others & that self care is a critical way to support ourselves in this busy, busy world. This episode was recorded in one take so there may be imperfections but that's reflective of real life - imperfect! and Catherine's goal in this podcast and this life is not the attainment of perfection but rather the acceptance of her flawed self.  Do yourself a massive favour today - don't rob yourself of the love you can offer yourself ❤️

#14 Shari Collins’s Story: Deciding To Let Go Of The Baggage Of Life In Order To Live Freely

#14 Shari Collins’s Story: Deciding To Let Go Of The Baggage Of Life In Order To Live Freely

Shari Collins has lived most of her life in Calgary! She was raised as an only child and mainly by her mother. Her parents got divorced when she was very young and a little while after her dad decided to abandon them. This affected Shari greatly and left her feeling confused and heartbroken. It took her a long time to get over this. In her twenties, she started to work and decided to let it go. Her mom had given her some advice and told her that she was carrying around deluxe baggage everywhere she went and she needed to decide to let that go. It wasn't hurting anyone but herself. Now looking back at it she sees it as a blessing and how much it has shaped who she is today.

We also got to talk about her career in oil and gas and how she deals with uncertainty every day. She took some courses but never took anything seriously till her mom put her foot down! Her advice to someone who is struggling with schooling is to enjoy where you are at in life and to know that you will find your path. You just can't stop looking!

Shari shared some of the hardest times in her life but also some of the best! When I asked her what was the best time in her life she said it's now! Shari is in the best relationship she's been in for a very long time and has found the person she's meant to be with! It's so refreshing to hear something so positive! She had been in the dating world for a long time and had many failed relationships. Shari shared some of her war stories from online dating. Shari’s family has also grown and she has met her half-brother for the first time this year!

#13 Sheila Hoogenboom’s Story: The Different Stages Of Grieving A Loss & Learning The Importance Of Your Tribe

#13 Sheila Hoogenboom’s Story: The Different Stages Of Grieving A Loss & Learning The Importance Of Your Tribe

Sheila Hoogenboom has quite an extraordinary story. She grew up with a blue-collar family that was very simple. She was raised in BC and had an older brother. As a teen, her brother got into a lot of trouble and so her mom and dad really focussed on him. She did not receive as much guidance because of this. When she was young she really struggled with finding a path and direction. She was one who drifted through High School and planned to go back to school but never did.

She got pregnant at a very young age and decided after unpredictable circumstances to give her daughter up for adoption. She knew she could not provide for that daughter. Later in her life, she met a guy and they moved in together right away. They had a traditional marriage and had two kids, a son, and a daughter. But things turned negative really quickly. Sheila's husband  committed suicide which was life-altering for the whole family. Back then mental health was not talked about the way it is today. People treated her differently as they thought something was wrong with them. Some people left her but some really great friends stayed. In the beginning, she didn't really give herself time to feel as she was focused on the kids. Through all the judgment she received she continued to get support. Sheila struggled with many feelings but being a wife and a mother was the ultimate wait for someone to leave you. Her self-esteem took a hard hit for the next 20 years. She asked herself why she wasn't enough and struggled with why he left her.

She was back in the same position of when she gave her first daughter up for adoption. How was she supposed to raise these children alone. She had amazing tools that she learned from a parenting program. Her grieving process didn't begin until later as her main focus was her kids. Her kids also struggled greatly from this and asked themselves some more questions like what was wrong with them and they had a great fear that she would leave them as well. She continued to have an open dialogue with her kids. She said that her close friends and her tribe were vile to her survival. She emphasized how important it is to have a tribe of women.

Her kids pushed her to start dating again and got into a relationship that wasn't great. She had a great job and was very involved in the community but she gave herself very little credit for all the amazing things she did. After a lot of work and a little manifestation she found her happily ever after and is living the life of her dreams. She met her daughter that she gave up when she was young and all the guilt went away. Shelia now knows her worth and celebrates who she is now!

You Are Not Enough (and other lies we tell ourselves)

You Are Not Enough (and other lies we tell ourselves)

It's the premiere episode of The Grown-Ass Woman's Guide! Let's dive in, shall we? In a recent poll, 100 Grown-Ass women were asked: “How often do you feel like you're not enough in one or more areas of your life?”

The answer may surprise you. But what’s even more important is WHY we feel like we’re not enough and what we can do about it. In this episode, you’ll hear from therapist Melody Murray who provides some key insight Plus,  learn five simple ways to feel more enough that’s worked for me and so many other grown-ass women.

    1. Identify the area or areas in which you feel like you're not enough.  If there are multiple, write them all down, but then we're going to pick one at a time to go through the process.
    2. Define what enough looks like in that area. What does it even mean?  What does it look like to be enough as a mom, in your job or a friendship? It really helps to define what it is that you think is enough so you can actually compare where you are and where you think you should be.
    3. Imagine someone you love, it could be your best friend, a sister, neighbor, maybe even a daughter.  Would you hold her to the same impossible standards you expect of yourself?  Would you judge her so harshly?  Or would you cut her some slack? What makes you so unique that you are expected to achieve some bogus level and be this person that you would never expect someone else to be?
    4. Who is determining your enoughness or not enoughness? When we put our own value in the comments of other people, how can we  not feel  like we're not enough, especially when that person hasn't even gone through their own healing journey?  Spoiler alert: the person you should be listening to is you.
      5. Imagine for a moment that you are enough right now.  Just be quiet with yourself  and say, I am a human being doing the very best I can.  And that's enough. I  am enough.  How would your life look if you stopped and you reminded yourself every day just for five seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, five minutes?

    E18: Working Mom/Mom/Parent Guilt

Today we talk about the feelings of not-enoughness around working outside the home. Or even inside the home!

When making the decision to work outside the home, many women feel a tremendous burden trying to balance the priorities of work and family life. Oftentimes we feel that when we're great employees, we're terrible mothers and vice versa.
