Not My Will - The 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer

Not My Will - The 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer

In this episode we turn to the 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer: "Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..."

We look at how we can presume to know the will of God (as we find it outlined in the 10 commandments, learn its fullness from the whole scripture, and see culminated in Christ) and how it really is a simple call to love God and love our neighbours, but also a call to pray for God to counter the dominion of the world, the flesh, and the devil in our own souls; to thwart the plans of wicked people; and to extend the Kingdom of his grace to others through ourselves. This is, again, a radical prayer for massive revolution, that Heaven would invade Earth and flip our upside-down world right-side-up again.

    Not My Will

    Not My Will

Today we focus on Luke 11:9-13. If you only read these verses, you could form a theology of God being a Cosmic Genie that grants wishes. We are going to talk about these verses and discover how we should be reading these verses.

The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. John is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church.

    Do We Have Free Will?

    Do We Have Free Will?

Do we have free will, or do we have a fate that we just change? In this episode, we look at the question of free will from a scriptural perspective.

Before you go, we must know that he created the wicked for the day of evil:

Pro_16:4  YAHUAH hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

These are the vessels of wrath:

Rom 9:22  What if YAHUAH, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

And so an important thing to note about him is that he hardens whom he will, so as to achieve his will.

Rom 9:18  Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

So there are exceptions whose free will are taken away from them and their hearts will be hardened. This is YAHUAH'S prerogative as the master potter:

Rom 9:19-21  Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?  Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against YAHUAH? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?  Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

So for the rest of us who have access to his mercy, do we have free will?

We use precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little to unravel the mystery.
