Thousands of people across India have gathered on the streets over the last few days to protest against CAA, NRC, NPR and police brutality on the students of various universities. For solidarity and dissent, protesters came out with strong verses and slogans, and this week Zarina is joined by one such voice Madhuri Adwani, host of Tapri Tales, who celebrated her New Year by distributing cards with the words -Insaaniyat, Satya, Shanti, Sahanubhuti etc- inscribed on it.

As Indian public universities become both spaces for and subjects of political disputes (often breaking out into violence) it's worth examining what it means for such universities to be "political" especially in the face of increasing privatization of higher education.

A nation-wide NRC is an unknown beast of unknown dimensions. Real world examples of the NRC come from Assam, where close to 19 lakh residents of the state were left out of the NRC list brought out in August 2019.
