22: Elixir Roundtable #22: Making the Switch to Elixir with Amplified's Chris Grainger

22: Elixir Roundtable #22: Making the Switch to Elixir with Amplified's Chris Grainger
Things Mentioned In this conversation, Chris Grainger, CTO of Amplified, discusses how he decided to adopt Elixir at Amplified and the benefits he's seen from it. The conversation covers topics such as functional programming, the benefits of Elixir and LiveView, the integration of Nx and ONNX, and transitioning to a mono-language company. Chris discusses the benefits he's seen first hand after shifting from Python to Elixir, including cutting Amplified's AWS bill in half, achieving the same amount of work with a development team of just two, and more. Chris also provides insights and advice for companies considering Elixir and highlights areas for improvement in the Elixir and Nx ecosystems. In this conversation, Chris and Brian discuss some of the most recent advancements in machine learning for Elixir, including Scholar and Bumblebee, which allows for the utilization of models in Hugging Face. The conversation concludes with a discussion about joining the EEF Slack and the welcoming and helpful nature of the Elixir community. Episode 310: 2023 Lexus RZ, 2023 Lexus NX 450h+

    Episode 310: 2023 Lexus RZ, 2023 Lexus NX 450h+
This week on the Unnamed Automotive Podcast, our hosts ask "What's good and what's merely adequate?" as they discuss two Lexuses...or is that Lexii? Whatever the plural, the conversation starts with the 2023 Lexus RZ450e, an all-electric crossover with the same platform as the Toyota bZ4x. With polarizing looks, uninspired specs and an unnecessary steering gimmick, our hosts have plenty to talk about, specifically regarding if Lexus put its best effort forward with its first EV. Then the conversation shifts to the brand's first plug-in hybrid, the 2023 Lexus NX450h+, which cribs much of the mechanicals from the Toyota RAV4 Prime, and puts it all into a sexy, high-end body from Lexus. Benjamin suggests that this what it Lexus wants to actually make0151rather than its boring, bland EV offerings—and has many reasons to prove his point. 130: Bumblebee Buzz with José Valim
The Elixir community is buzzing with excitement around Bumblebee! Bumblebee makes it easy to use a variety of pre-trained neural network models in Elixir. José Valim, Paulo Valente, and Jonatan Kłosko join us to talk about this latest advancement. We learn how Bumblebee works, the abilities that are supported today, where things are going next and the longer term visions of what's possible. We cover the new Livebook smart cells that create an easy playground for playing with Bumblebee, a single-file Phoenix example that does image classification, and much more! 104: Exploring Our Data with Chris Grainger

104: Exploring Our Data with Chris Grainger
Chris Grainger explains Explorer, Nx's recent addition. It's a “Data Frame” library which sounds far more nebulous than it is. It lets us explore and manipulate two-dimensional data like we already do with DB tables, spreadsheets, CSV files, etc. Only this works in memory, is faster, and has predefined functions that make it very powerful. Explorer fills an important slot in the overall pie for data science and ML in Elixir. However, Explorer is also one of the tools that “regular” Elixir devs can take advantage of today! 102: Machine Learning in Elixir with Sean Moriarity

102: Machine Learning in Elixir with Sean Moriarity
Sean Moriarity, the author of Genetic Algorithms in Elixir, lays out Machine Learning in the Elixir space. We talk about where it is today and where it's going in the future. Sean talks more about his book, how that led to working with José Valim which then led to the creation of Nx. He fills us in on recent ML events with Google and Facebook and shows us how Elixir fits into the bigger picture. It's a fast developing area and Sean helps us follow the important points even if we aren't doing ML ourselves… because our teams may still need it. Episode 269: 2022 Land Rover Range Rover, 2022 Lexus NX 350h Hybrid, Listener Questions
Weren't you just wondering a bunch of random things about the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover? Get ready for all the details about the secret air-suspension setting, the weird second sharkfin antenna, the non-JLR engine under the hood, the motorized accessories and the overall luxuriousness of it all as Sami spills the beans after his first drive experience. Then Benjamin talks about his time in the 2022 Lexus NX 350h, an overwhelmingly popular luxury vehicle that was in need of a winning update. Is what we got a little too underwhelming? The pair wrap things up with a listener question about the reappearance of another legendary Honda nameplate. Listen to it all right here and don't forget to subscribe, like and send us your feedback!

    Episode 262: 2022 Infiniti QX60, 2022 Lexus NX, 2022 BMW X3, 2022 Genesis GV70, McDonald's Arch Deluxe, Lightning Round Game

    Episode 262: 2022 Infiniti QX60, 2022 Lexus NX, 2022 BMW X3, 2022 Genesis GV70, McDonald's Arch Deluxe, Lightning Round Game
Benjamin drives the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 and frames his take on it by discusshing the heirarchy of luxury car brands. What is Tier 1 Luxury anyways and where does Infiniti rank? While the QX60 shares many components with the Nissan Pathfinder, the styling and effort with the details are supposed to make it stand out, so find out what Benjamin thinks after his time with the 3-row Japanese luxury SUV. Then Sami goes on a wild discussion about three of the newest and hottest luxury crossovers on the market. The 2022 Lexus NX has a new look and touch-screen interface, but is that enough to overcome the other options in the segment? The 2022 BMW X3 has the best motor in the segment, and a familiar cabin and experience, though can feel a bit choppy at times. Finally the 2022 Genesis GV70 seems like the jack-of-all-trades, with an experience that's good enough for most. Finally, Sami surprises Ben with a new lightning round game called "This or That." You won't want to miss it! Download, stream, rate, review, subscribe or do whatever you want to do! Thanks for listening! Arch Deluxe!

    Episode 246: 2022 Lexus NX, 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2022 Genesis G70 3.3T AWD

    Episode 246: 2022 Lexus NX, 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2022 Genesis G70 3.3T AWD
Last week on UAP Sami and Benjamin agreed that the 2022 Genesis GV70 SUV is a class leader, but this week Sami is already flip-flopping on that statement. It turns out the new 2022 Lexus NX plug-in hybrid has caught his attention and he's blabbering non-stop about the new Japanese compact crossover. The pair take a few tangents into Volvo XC40 territory, before bringing up the new 2022 Toyota Tundra and its sneaker inspired powertrain. While other truckmakers offer V8s and diesels, will Toyota survive with just a pair of V6 offerings? Does it have a chance against the hybrid Ford F-150? Finally Benjamin shares all the details of his roadtrip experience in the refreshed 2022 Genesis G70. While he gushes about the powertrain and value, he also wonders if Genesis is ready to abandon its entry level sport sedan like much of the rest of the industry seems set to do. Listen for all the juicy details, specifications, and banter, and please be sure to comment on or review the podcast after you listen!

Episode 212: 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge, 2021 Kia Soul EV, 2021 Lexus NX 300, Listener Question About Fun First Cars
The 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge is the Swedish brand's very first all-electric vehicle, and the most powerful version of the XC40 SUV to date. Benjamin dives in to the good and the bad about driving this high-end EV during winter's bitter cold, and compares it against the much cheaper 2021 Kia Soul EV's performance under the same conditions. Sami gives his impressions of the aging, but still interesting 2021 Lexus NX 300 crossover before the pair answer a listener question about the best cheap-and-fun four-door first car.
