#061 Welcome to Episode #061 of Way of the Bible podcast. This is our fifth of eight episodes in our mini-series entitled, Major and Minor Prophets | Isaiah to Malachi. On this episode we’re going to look at the first six books of the minor prophets, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, and Micah. These prophets prophesied to the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the Southern Kingdom of Judah, and several of the surrounding nations in the times of the Assyrian invasion of the north and the Babylonian conquest to the south.
The Assyrian invasion was one of destruction to the uttermost of the northern kingdom with remnant survivors dispersed throughout the Assyrian empire. The Babylonians invaded and conquered Judah in stages, taking captive into exile remnant survivors of each stage back to Babylon. Israel’s vassal kings kept breaking their agreements with the Babylonians eventually forcing a massive offensive that sacked Jerusalem and leveled the temple.
The minor prophets all address coming judgment of God because of wickedness, idolatry, and apostasy. Some of the minor prophets also speak of a coming day of the LORD’s vengeance against the whole world such as never has been seen or will again be seen in the future. While some of these prophecies may reflect the Assyrian or Babylonian invasions to a point, these prophecies also indicate there is a judgment yet to come on a global scale.
What we learned in Daniel was the promised land was to be ruled over by gentile nations until the fulness of wickedness of the gentile nations had been reached. At this time God would return with a final global judgment and reestablish Israel in their promised land.
Given we’re covering six individual books on one episode, we’ll not going to linger long in any one book. This overview is to give you a taste of what these books contain, and to perhaps encourage you to read these books for yourself. Psalm 34:8 – Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
When you read these books you will see Western culture has reached the same pinnacle of worldliness, idolatry, and apostasy as the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel. Excess wealth of some with no end in sight, 21st century military might, and loss of even obligatory Christian religious practices. While we see the world enclosing around us with its sex, drugs, and rock and roll 24/7 and opiates for the masses, we also see a shift toward totalitarian control on a global scale.
Are we now in a slide toward a similar judgment by God which he rendered on the apostate and idolatrous Israelites? Let’s get started and see
It’s hard to forgive what others have done to you, but the book of Obadiah reminds us that grudge holding is a dead end.Especially when we know that God will right every wrong and bring justice one day. Jacob Wirka continues Win the Day’s series on the books of the bible.

Does life feel uncertain and full of worry and anxiety?
The pages of Country Soul are filled with Scripture, stories, takeaways, and encouragement that will get your faith moving.
Like many of us, author Cara Whitney and her husband, Dan (Larry the Cable Guy), have experienced mountaintops and valleys in life. The good news they discovered is that we don't have to go it alone. God's Word guides our steps, leading us through the ups and downs of our faith journey.
Country Soul is filled with 30 compelling journeys of faith about men and women whose heartaches turned into hope and whose setbacks were transformed into victory.
There seems to be an "epidemic of loneliness" in our society. This is especially true as people age and have less contact with friends and family. Widows and widowers miss their spouses who have passed into heaven. The elderly often have no friends left and they are unable to get out anymore to visit the ones who are still alive. The coronavirus pandemic served to compound the problem and caused people to feel more isolated and lonely than ever before.
Loneliness can be overwhelming and debilitating but we serve a God who promises to never leave us or forsake us. In this episode Brian, Terry and Dan serve up Biblical advice on handling loneliness. They will help you live your life with purpose, change someone’s life for the better and leave a lasting impact on those around you. Everyone starts the race... but only the Fearless Finish Strong!

What makes a person worthy to be chosen by God to do his work? In the story of the Bible, some of God’s choices seem obvious, people with lots of merit. Other times, his rationale is less clear to us––as with Jonah, a chosen one who might be worse than the people he was supposed to help. In this episode, listen in as Tim describes the biblical design pattern of the chosen righteous intercessor. This is a sneak peek into our free graduate-level course on Jonah, which will be featured in the new Classroom resource available in 2022.

"Why on Earth would a prophet of God serve the most wicked King in the whole Bible? Honestly, I believe that it’s a simple answer, it’s because it’s where God wanted him. A difficult place and not many people would understand."
Hello everyone!
Thank you for listening to this podcast!
We've missed our regular podcasting sessions with you all while we've been working on a new film and song of worship entitled, Calling YESHUA. You can find out about this forthcoming release - and how to support production - by clicking here.
Today we are previewing our fourth season on Into the Pray and the focus that has dropped into our hearts as we've paused, prayed and waited for His help.
"All the prophets" is one of Peter's phrases from Acts 3:24 as he makes his speech in Solomon's Portico. Remember Peter's woeful denial of Jesus and his restoration in John 21? This is now a different man emerging as a newly emboldened witness, full of the fear of God.
It is our prayer as we study and linger and learn and wrestle with the prophets of old in this season that we will know something more of the fear of the Lord in our midst.
It is our prayer that the ensnaring fear of man will be smashed to smithereens as the compelled, prophetic people of God, like Peter, lift their voices in Spirit-wrought gospel proclamation..in and out of the Church.
God knows we need freedom from the fear of man inside the Church as well as in the highways and byways.
Please do consider sharing this podcast to your networks for us.
Also, if you would like to support this podcast generally, our wider work and/or our new production, Calling Yeshua, please do so here.
Thank you again.
Love & maranatha,
