Mike Stone | Psalm 139 | God is With Us & He Knows Us

Mike Stone | Psalm 139 | God is With Us & He Knows Us

This week, I want to share a brief bit of encouragement from one of my favorite chapters in the Bible, Psalm 139.

It’s easy to get so caught up in all of our day-to-day responsibilities that we get overwhelmed with life. Psalm 139 is my go-to reminder that God is so much greater than I can imagine. He knows me better than I know myself.  Reading this chapter in the Psalms is a great anxiety-reducer!

Beginning in verse 19, David seems to make an abrupt change.  It is a bit uncomfortable that he begins talking about slaying the wicked and hating his enemies.  However, David is not speaking about those he hates, but those who hate God and rebel against God.  God, in His mercy and longsuffering, withholds His wrath. The Apostle Paul was one of those that David would have probably considered an enemy of God, but because God offers mercy, Saul became Paul after becoming a follower of Jesus and did a complete 180 by serving God to the end.

The rest of Psalm 139 reminds us:

    1. God is omniscience – He is all-knowing
    2. God is omnipresent – He is ever-present
    3. That we are intimately known by God
    4. We are made with a purpose
    5. God is in control
    6. We are never alone
    7. God will eventually be the ultimate Judge

Friends, regardless of what you are going through or what you have gone through, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  If you are a follower of Jesus, you know that He left heaven to become one of us. To experience life as we know it…with pain, hurt, challenges, temptations…all of it.  He walked this earth for over 30 years, yet he was without sin.

If you are not following Jesus, know that because He was without sin, he was the only one qualified to become a sacrifice that would cover all our sins.  He died for me, and He died for you.  He loves you!

I hope you will bookmark Psalm 139 and read it often as a reminder of the BIG PICTURE.  You are loved!

    #163 – Omnipresent & Omniscient

    #163 – Omnipresent & Omniscient

Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley discuss what it means that God is Omnipresent & Omniscient.

    Questions Covered in This Episode:

    • What does omnipresence mean?
    • How do we reconcile the fact that God is Spirit with our understanding of God as Trinity?
    • I have a spirit and I have a body, that is different from God being Spirit?
    • How does technology play into the illusion of omnipresence?
    • But what about the Son of God, he can’t be omnipresent can he? He’s in a body?
    • Why is this good news?
    • What does omniscience mean?
    • If God knows everything, is he cruel or powerless?

    Helpful Definitions:

    • Omnipresence: Everywhere fully present.
    • Deism: The belief that God created something and then stepped away from his creation. God is absent and careless about his creation.
    • Pantheism: The belief that God is a 1:1 correlation with His creation. God is powerless because he is his creation.
    • Extra Calvinisticum: Teaching that Christ's divine nature cannot be enclosed or imprisoned within a human nature, but remains infinite despite being in union with a finite body.
    • Trinitarianism: God eternally exists as one essence in three distinct persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God, yet there is One God.
    • Transubstantiation (Catholicism) - The view of the Lord’s Supper that the conversion of the whole substance of the bread and wine into the whole substance of the body and blood of Christ.
    • Consubstantiation (Lutheranism) - The view of the Lord’s Supper that the substances both of the body and blood of Christ and of the bread and the wine coexist in union with each other.
    • Memorial (Anabaptist) - The view of the Lord’s Supper that the Eucharist is merely symbolic in nature.
    • Spiritual Presence (Reformed) - The view of the Lord’s Supper that teaches that in the elements and in the proceedings of communion Christ is spiritually present with his people.
    • Omniscience: All things are known effortlessly and instantly.
    • Eternal: Not bound by time.

    Our “Everywhere” Present

    Our “Everywhere” Present

(Note: We're taking a break from the "Belonging to Him" series for the holiday season and will pick back up with Part 2 on January 17th. This week, you’ll be hearing the third sermon John shared from a 4-part Christmas series while pastoring a church in the country of Honduras.) In coming to the earth at Christmas, God fulfilled his dream to be with us and offer us the gift of being with him. Through the divinity and humanity of Jesus, our Emmanuel, we find a God who is eternal and everywhere present, but also present to meet every need that we have.

Psalm 110 [Messianic - Son of God] - Audio

Psalm 110 [Messianic - Son of God] - Audio
Psalm 110 is quoted in the NT more than any other OT passage, almost 30 times. Yahweh was known by the Jews as the eternal God of the universe, the Great I AM. Adonai was the general term for the title “lord”. According to Psalm 110:1, the “Son of David”, “Adonai-Lord”, was alive during David’s own time and was already greater than David. Psalm 77 lists six things that God the Father says He will do for God the Son: 1. The Lord will cause His people to follow Him joyfully. [v.3a] 2. The Lord will revive and refresh Him. [v.3b] 3. The Lord will not change His mind. [v.4] 4. The Lord will totally defeat all who oppose Him. [v.5 & v.6b] 5. The Lord will perfectly judge all who oppose Him. [v.6a] 6. The Lord will exalt Him completely. [v.7] Jesus was more than just the Son of David – in fact, He was even more than the Lord of David. Jesus was and is Lord of all.
