An Oncology Nurse's Journey of Grief and Loss: Navigating Sibling Loss , Knowledge, and Devastation

In this episode, of The Broken Pack: Stories of Adult Sibling Loss,  surviving sibling Cally Marzolf-Adams, an oncology nurse shares her difficult sibling loss story of losing her sister, Sarah, to metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Through her conversation with Dr. Dean, Cally shares her profound story of love, loss, and heartbreas, highlighting the challenges and coping mechanisms involved. Her knowledge as an oncology nurse both prepared her and haunted her as she watched her sister decline, eventually dying from the illness.

Together with our host and fellow sibling loss survivor, Dr. Angela Dean, they discuss out-of-order loss, Cally's relationship with Sarah who she described as a kind, calming, soul, memories, seeking help in grief, and so much more.

    Survivor Turned Nurse Molly Pratt

    Survivor Turned Nurse Molly Pratt

As a child, Molly Pratt had a fear of medical facilities.  Today, you'll hear how her perspective changed.  She's now a BSN, RN in Pediatrics at Beaumont Children's at Corewell Health's Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan.

Molly was an active 16 year-old high school student when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Her first round of treatment involved outpatient chemotherapy, but she eventually needed a bone marrow transplant, which she received in 2017.  Her priorities shifted from extracurricular activities and college tours to her inpatient recovery.

But her hospital stay changed her perspective. Her nurses became her social circle, playing card games with them late at night.  Inspired by her care, she decided to follow in their footsteps.  She now provides the same level of compassion to the kids she works with.  She's able to relate to their experiences, having been through the process herself.  In fact, she just had her final 6 month checkup, and she got to spend time with her patients in clinic, as a patient herself.

Molly leaves us with inspiring advice about not taking any day for granted, and having the confidence to accomplish whatever it is you set your mind to.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO- "When One Door Closes, Another Opens" with Guest RN and Energy Medicine Healer Marie Manuchehri. Looking Back At S2E9

Patricia and Marty, Marie's parents thought they were doing the right thing and being very responsible and conscientious until one comment from someone they respected and  admired rocked their world. That was an unfortunate yet fortunate life changing experience, one that Marie Manuchehri and her family have built their life's path  around to this day.

Marie believes her intuitive abilities go back a few generations beginning with her great grandmother who was  Native American. To this day, Marie helps clients all over the world using her extensive background as an oncology nurse, energy intuitive, energy medicine practitioner, etc.

You can listen to/stream  "Where Energy and Medicine Meet" , Marie's weekly radio show Thursdays at noon EST/9amPST on KKNW 1150 AM . It's one hour of healing, positive suggestions and information about chakras and 'spirit guides'. Yes did you know we all have spirit guides!  I highly recommend Marie's book "Intuitive-Self Healing-Achieve Balance And Wellness Through The Body's Energy Center"

Marie's mother raised the children on her own after a number of years and studied and worked as  a "Re-evaluation Counselor .  Her mother was always very positive and  assured the kids that things were going to work out just fine, even during tough times. And that was  always very comforting to the kids.

"Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. And my guests answer the question, 'are you who you are today because of, or in spite of, your mother'? You'll be amazed at what the responses are.

"Should Have Listened To My Mother" would not be possible without the generosity, sincerity and insight from my guests. In getting ready to launch my podcast, so many were willing to give their time and share their personal relationships with their mother.

Some of my guests include Baritone Singer Christopheren Nomura, Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist Tim Wacker, Activist Kim Miller, Freighter Sea Captain Terry Viscount, Film Production Manager Peg Robinson, Professor of Writing Montclair State University Dr. Bridget Brown, Tammy Steckler, attorney and family advocate @CUNY Law; NYC First Responder/NYC Firefighter Mark Heingartner, Child and Adult Special Needs Activist, Maryellen Valyo Cole and Roger Evens, Property Manager in New Jersey and so many more talented and insightful women and men.

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

As a pediatric  hospital nurse I cared for many seriously ill kids and their families. Then it hit close to home. In early January 2020 my very young great niece London was diagnosed with B cell leukemia. Here she is thriving some 2 years later. But how? In part with Hope for Henry.

Hope for Henry helps children and families confront the challenges of serious illness with innovative, scientifically tested programs that help hospitalized kids keep to their medical plans and thrive. Since 2003, more than 70,000 young patients have received help to cope with their diagnoses and treatment so they can do what they need to do to get better.

Click HERE to watch a VIMEO of a Hope for Henry Gala. At minute 23:20 London’s mom, Rose - herself an oncology nurse - speaks about the value of Hope for Henry for London and their family.

On Saturday May 7th, 2022 beginning at 8:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time, London, family members and friends will be running a Hope for Henry 5k to Make a Kid’s Day race on the C&O Canal. But, here’s the cool part! If you can’t be there physically you can join virtually. To join the race, in person or virtually, click HERE to register for London’s Sugar Bombs team:
