The 2023 Movie Forecast / Directorial Debuts

The 2023 Movie Forecast / Directorial Debuts
Welcome to our very first episode of BACK TO THE FRAME RATE. Nathan, Eli, and Sam introduce themselves and give you a very brief bit of their background working in the film industry and how they decided to launch this podcast. They follow up with a discussion about the upcoming slate of films scheduled for release in 2023, with each tossing out their most anticipated selections. After they discuss the recently announced Oscar Nominations. Are the Oscars the measuring stick for quality cinema? Is Michelle Yeoh a lock to win Best Actress this year? Why hasn't Sam watched Everything Everywhere All At Once Yet? Nathan thought Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Picture in 1999 (maybe this was just a case of the Mandela Effect). Should we have our podcasting license immediatly revoked? You the listener can decide.

Talking 2022 Oscars Nominations (Special Guest: Karen Peterson Of We Live Entertainment)
The 2022 Oscar nominations were this morning! Are you okay? There were some big surprises, a few “snubs” (we hate that term around here), and some that came out of nowhere. Or did they? One person would know who were the true frontrunners, the dark horses, and the never-had-a-chance contenders really were. Cinema Royale is joined by Karen Peterson, awards editor at WeLiveEntertainment.com, to break down everything that happened in all 23 Academy Awards categories.

All of this and more. You can subscribe to Cinema Royale wherever you get your podcasts, and be sure to do the same on Youtube! Follow the Punch Drunk Critics and Cinema Royale!

    Episode 88: - Underwater & American Animals

    Episode 88: - Underwater & American Animals
Thalassophobia abounds in 'Underwater', a new January horror film starring Kristin Stewart and disgraced lardass T.J. Miller in an under-the-sea claustrophobic adventure that's sure to mildly amuse even the most skeptical of b-movie audiences. Next, the jig is up in 'American Animals', a 2018 based-on-a-true-story heist movie starring Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan as two Kentucky college students whose youthful desire for adventure leads them to stealing the most expensive book in the country. Also, the 2019 Academy Award nominations are here, Warner Bros. is determined to use a computer to choose which films to greenlight, and what's the deal with Billie Eilish?

Oscar Nominations, Black Panther, Kelela - IP 108

Oscar Nominations, Black Panther, Kelela - IP 108

It's been a long, strange, sometimes underwhelming trip to the Oscar Nominations but we're here to share our immediate reactions. We give you our thoughts on why certain movies are heading to the red carpet and others got snubbed and we also try to make sense of why the film Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri has become a frontrunner. We celebrate nominations for Get Out, The Big Sick, Logan, Mudbound and Lady Bird and share our gratitude to whomever was genius enough to book Tiffany Haddish to announce the nominations.

Plus Sean makes his case for why Black Panther should have received an Oscar nomination THIS year! He's not joking!

And we end the show with The Big Sell. Sean rates Amita's Big Sell from last time, Kelela's "Frontline," and then Big Sells Amita an article by Alissa Wilkinson (one of his favorite culture critics) on the backlash against Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri. Read it HERE
