Chris Wallace was challenged on his internal narrative of “The Greatest Generation” and their lack of democracy domestically. Will Smith received his punishment from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The argument for bureaucracy is also made, though it's expensive, it could save you an arm and a leg. Faithspotting Oscar Slap and Response and "The Batman"

Faithspotting Oscar Slap and Response and "The Batman"

Mike and Kenny discuss the 94th Academy Award telecast, Will Smith's slapping Chris Rock, and the subsequent responses and reactions. Also discussed was the impact on the program and award winners and films. In the second half of the episode Kenny and Mike review and spot faith elements in The Batman.

Faith Discussion: The immediate statement and apology of Smith reflect a lack of ability and expectation within society for true confession and unconditional apology, which are necessary for repentance.  Less than full throated confession and true repentance, as offered by King David following his sin, is what God expects and desires.

Instead of retaliating against an offender and insult, one should offer the other cheek. Matthew 5

While they can tempt, blaming or attributing one's actions on Satan or sin etc., deflects responsibility and is not confessional or repentant.

How love should lead persons to live in relationship with others and respond to the actions of others.   I Corinthians 13

    The Batman

    Faith Spotted:

The nature and corrosiveness of vengeance which mirrors the original actions and behavior one is reacting against.

Vengeance cannot change the past but does inhibit healing. Vengeance is incompatible with Christ's teaching and life example and, as it is not of God, inhibits God working for good in the present and future, (Romans 8) including the power of forgiveness, transformation, and a restoration of community.

#089 Will, Chris & Jada: An Astrological Perspective Of The Oscar’s Biggest Hit

#089 Will, Chris & Jada: An Astrological Perspective Of The Oscar’s Biggest Hit

Did anything interesting happen this week? Um, yeah, it did!

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage for poking fun at Jada Pinkett–Smith’s shaved head.

Whether Chris knew it at the time or not, Jada actually has a health condition called alopecia which can be caused by a number of factors, but the bottom line is that it’s can cause insecurity and an extreme lack of confidence to the person it affects.

I have worked as a hairdresser in my time on this planet and also trained in Afro-Carribean hair. I am by no means an expert, but I do understand the importance of hair to women the world over, and also the expense that some people are prepared to go to in order to have good hair.

Interestingly, Chris Rock knows this too as he created a documentary a few years back called, just that: Good Hair.

So this seemingly inoffensive joke he made about Jada, was actually a deeply triggering statement which tapped into a super sensitive area for her – and this was something Will wasn’t going to stand for.

I don’t really have to go into details because the incident was everywhere and has become an iconic moment in television history. And I’m not really about to start figuring who was right or wrong in this situation – it’s very deep and I could argue each perspective.

What is of interest to me though, are the astrological events which triggered the incident and how the ‘synastry’ or relationship between Will, Jada and Chris interplay.

Let’s gain a deeper insight into this unforgettable moment which will remain part of Will Smith’s reputation for the rest of his life.

Talking The Oscars; The Wins, The Losses, The Mood, The Slap
The 94th Academy Awards are over, and you know what? It was one that we’ll never forget. There’s something to say about the history-making show, the winners who broke new ground, and, sadly, the slap heard around the world. It was Goddamn nuts! So let’s talk about it.

Joining me on this episode of Cinema Royale is my good friend Karen Peterson, Awards Editor at We Live Entertainment, to break down what was going on there at the show, what the mood was like, and what everybody was doing when Will Smith smacked the shit out of Chris Rock.

All of this and more, of course! You can subscribe to Cinema Royale wherever you get your podcasts, and be sure to do the same on Youtube! Follow the Punch Drunk Critics and Cinema Royale!

Talking 2022 Oscars Nominations (Special Guest: Karen Peterson Of We Live Entertainment)
The 2022 Oscar nominations were this morning! Are you okay? There were some big surprises, a few “snubs” (we hate that term around here), and some that came out of nowhere. Or did they? One person would know who were the true frontrunners, the dark horses, and the never-had-a-chance contenders really were. Cinema Royale is joined by Karen Peterson, awards editor at WeLiveEntertainment.com, to break down everything that happened in all 23 Academy Awards categories.

    One Week Streak

    One Week Streak

With one week with no televised police shootings the gang brings some variety. Opening with Chris Weidman's horrific injuries we pivot to the current state of fighting (15:45), some technical on the UFC recent IPO (27:11), and what would a UFC talk be without Rogan (34:38) and his recent vaccine woes. Into the second hour we transition to a more governmental tone discussing Caitlin Jenner’s run on the Republican ticket (47:29), Chauvin updates (1:02:06), and police unions (1:24:19). Drew really brings us home as he nukes all of Hollywood and their recent monstrosities! We hit a Mortal Kombat Review (1:35:55) and as for the Oscars--1-star; we simply cannot recommend (1:43:18). Thank to all our loyal listeners, here’s to the podcast being in its 30’s.
