002: Black Sabbath Electric Funeral Guitar Lesson

002: Black Sabbath Electric Funeral Guitar Lesson

    YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/GaCZimRZVUo

In this doom metal guitar lesson I teach you the entire rhythm and lead sections from Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath. The song is broken down into its main riffs, each demonstrated and explained in full detail. E Standard Tuning: E-A-D-G-B-E

The song begins with the classic wah pedal intro riff in the key of E Minor and utilizes the E Natural Minor Scale {R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7}. The remainder of the song's riffs utilize elements from the E Blues Scale {R, b3, p4, b5, p5, b7} along with a M7 interval during the third riff.

    17: Trust Issues in Relationships

    17: Trust Issues in Relationships

People with mild paranoia often have difficulties in relationships.  Their trust issues take a particular form.  They are suspicious, quick to read between the lines, quick to assume that the person speaking with them has a hidden motive.  At times, they will accuse others of having thoughts and intentions that are not there.  It creates anger, frustration, and a whole boat-load of misunderstanding.

In this episode, Dr. Hamlin explains how to recognize this pattern in others and in one's self.  He briefly discusses the causes of this way of thinking.  Finally, he offers tips for how to deal with it in a constructive manner.

Black Sabbath Paranoid - Part 1

Black Sabbath Paranoid - Part 1

In the annals of British heavy metal there are two groups that get the lions share of the credit when it comes to creating a uniform prototype of the sound. Led Zeppelin, of course, and the band that we're covering today, Black Sabbath. Some folks might want to throw Deep Purple in there, but they were more traditional rock than Zep and Sabbath in my opinion (and loved to include the organ, mostly unmetal, in their typical sound).

For 'Paranoid' it was the groups second album and showed off the bands expanding sonic palette and showcasing the riffing prowess of one Tony Iommi. Featuring 8 songs, some of the bands best-loved and well-known songs were hammered out on it. From the timely 'War Pigs', to the stonerish 'Planet Caravan' and even the radio-ready, inexplicably populist anthem 'Paranoid' to the now inescapable 'Iron Man', it's the album of choice of many a rock and metal enthusiast. But one of the things that makes it stand out from its contemporaries is a track like 'Hand of Doom' which weaves the story of a Vietnam vet hooked on heroin to deal with the psychic burden of warfare with peerless musicianship to create art out of the loud bombast.

Featuring Randy W. Hall's new musical crush Bill Ward on the drums (and bongos on 'Planet Caravan'), Geezer Butler, the collectives main lyricist, on bass, the band had one of the best rhythm sections ever. Between they and their contemporaries Led Zep you couldn't go wrong. Add Ozzy Osbourne and his iconic vocal stylings with Iommi's thunderous guitar work and one of the biggest bands with lasting impact and influence were born. For teens struggling with growing up they became a rite of passage for millions.

Even though neither Dan or Randy never had a Black Sabbath phase we got a request to do this album from a listener (thank you Justin Farmer) and were both enriched for it. And since neither of us were Sabbath fans going in Dan interviewed his buddy Pete who was a Sabbath fanatic who's seen them multiple times and even met Ozzy recently in Part 2 of the program. So come join us for a 'Paranoid' edition of Dandy Classic Music Hour. You'll be having a good time baby, that just might last.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR THERAPY?

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR THERAPY?
There are certain people who are more candidate ready for therapy than others. I've had mothers who "make" their sons or daughters come in for therapy, or spouses/significant others force their other to show up or ship out. You can't MAKE another person go to therapy. Therapy is NOT a hostage situation (unlike childhood!). Typically people who suffer from narcissistic personality disorder are DIFFICULT candidates for therapy as they will demean, devalue or destroy their therapist. Paranoid personalities and avoidant personality disorders like to avoid thus are also less likely to show up. People who are in crisis are typically the ones who show up. A crisis is a good catalyst for bringing issues to a head and breaking down old defenses so that people bottom out and shift. We Shrunk That Tune “Basket Case” by Green Day.
