Moving into Chapter 2, Paul encourages prayer for all people, delineating the roles of men and women in public worship, advising women to display modesty and learn with humility and full submission.

He proceeds in Chapter 3 to provide qualifications for overseers and deacons, emphasizing their requisite virtues and standards for leadership within the church.

Chapter 4 continues with Paul advising Timothy on the conduct and behaviors expected from various groups within the church, including widows, elders, and slaves, stressing the value of godliness, contentment, and highlighting the perils associated with the love of money.

Money is NOT the Root of All Evil

Money is NOT the Root of All Evil
You've probably heard it said that money is the root of all evil. This phrase is misapplied to the Apostle Paul writing to Timothy. Paul told his young friend that the "love of money" is the root of all kinds of evil. Oh, how one word can make a difference! Why did Paul write this to Timothy? What did he mean, and how can we rightly apply it to our lives today? Devotionables #294: Money is NOT the Root of All Evil 1 Timothy 6:10 Reading Scripture Carefully Devotionables is a ministry of The Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.  naobc.org

Pastoral Epistles | CBR Bible Introduction Project

The chapter on The Pastoral Epistles  in A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the New Testament: The Gospel Realized is helpful for understanding the structure of the book. Listeners that want to do some real digging into the theological, history, and literary form of the Pastoral Epistles should consult Philip Towner’s volume in the NICNT series. Two shorter commentaries worth consulting are The Message of 1 Timothy and Titus and The Message of 2 Timothy, both by John Stott and both in the Bible Speaks Today series. Do Not be Ashamed

    Do Not be Ashamed
Paul's Christian experience, like that of our Lord, was marked by suffering, imprisonments, beatings, mocking's, and finally martyrdom. There were those at Ephesus (Hymenaeus and Alexander – 1 Tim. 1:20 and Phygelus and Hermogenes – 2 Tim. 1:15), as well as in Corinth, that were ashamed of Paul's sufferings, and even questioned the legitimacy of his Apostleship. Paul urges Timothy to “stand tall and share in the sufferings of Christ”.
