Welcome to the Conquer Food Podcast with Craig and Paula Williams where we share tips, tricks, and strategies from the coalface of the weight loss industry in the UK. We are going to help you to think, eat and move better. Ultimately, we're going to help you finally gain control and Conquer Food.

We've got a great guest today, my beautiful wife and business partner, Paula, who is also the founder and lead coach and the Conquer Food Programme.

I want to talk a bit about the food specifically. Paula, you lived a keto diet and ketogenic lifestyle for quite a while. You had some great results. Living on a ketogenic lifestyle at the time because you had a bad knee.

So you couldn't do any exercise yet. You still lost weight and a ton of weight.

My weight is always secondary to my mental house. That's the one thing that I'm constantly working on and when I'm in a state of ketosis my mental health becomes so much more improved.

It is incredible. So for me, When I'm not in a ketogenic state, what happens is I'm plagued by, sugar cravings and I think there's a lot of people out there. I know, especially people I talk to who come to camp that, food becomes the thing that they think about from the minute they wake up to the minute they go to sleep.

There'll be other people that say, Oh my God, really? Yes. Actually, really that's, that's a reality for a lot, lot of people. And, and a lot of people do suffer, with, with mental health problems and depression. And I think because, and I don't know the exact science behind this, this Craig in too much detail, but what I do know is when your body is using the stores of fat that it already has, it doesn't scream at you to fill yourself with carbohydrates.

Other benefits discussed in this podcast include:

    1. Low-Carb Diets Reduce Your Appetite

    2. Low-Carb Diets Lead to More Weight Loss at First

    3. A Greater Proportion of Fat Loss Comes From Your Abdominal Cavity

    4. Triglycerides Tend to Drop Drastically

    5. Increased Levels of 'Good' HDL Cholesterol

    6. Reduced Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels

    7. May Lower Blood Pressure

    8. Effective Against Metabolic Syndrome

    9. Improved 'Bad' LDL Cholesterol Levels

    10. Therapeutic for Several Brain Disorders

Don't Make The Fridge Your Happy Place With TEAM Bootcamp's Paula Williams

Welcome to the conquer free podcast with Craig and Paula Williams, where we share tips, tricks, and strategies from the coalface of the weight loss industry in the UK. We're going to help you to think, eat, and move better. Ultimately, we're going to help you finally gain control and come Conquer Food.

[00:00:21] Paula: [00:00:21] Yeah. I didn't realize he was starting that quickly.

[00:00:39] Craig: [00:00:39] Yeah. So we've got, this is, this is, it's been awhile since we've done a podcast together. Just me and you, I'm looking forward to it. Togetherness, it's what everybody needs right now whilst we're on lockdown and in quarantine. okay. So I've got a particular topic I want to talk about today.

[00:00:54] Before that, I want to kind of just set it all up a little bit. So it's obvious the, when Corvid 19. broke out the countries are, went into a bit of disruption and and people became scared. People became a little bit worried and anxious about what their future would hold.

[00:01:14] And, and then to top it all off, we then got kind of locked up and our, our freedom, our ability to move around was then hindered. so we've got a load of people that are emotional for lots of different reasons, stuck at home. And I read a great quote yesterday, which is when you're sad or you're bored, don't make your, the fridge your happy place.

[00:01:38] And Paula, that's kind of what I want to talk about. First of all. So, can you, can you talk to me a little bit about, has there been a time when the fridge has been your happy place and, and what was the consequences of that?

[00:01:49] Paula: [00:01:49] Actually, my fridge has been, my happy place for the last five days. For the last five days without, without a shadow of a doubt.

[00:01:57] And, last night I had to do some really strong kind of self-reflection because I've been, I've surrounded myself with really kind of positive things or listening to a lot of, meditations. And, and real. I used that actually. I'm not practising any of the things that I'm learning because as soon as I feel slightly worried, slightly anxious, slightly tense, the first thing I do is walk to our fridge and our fridge.

[00:02:22] At the moment it looks like Christmas. It's full. and our fridge is never full. Ever, ever, ever fall. well, I mean, we, we, we felt obliged him because we've got my, we've got two sons who are those, and then we've got a house guest staying with us as well, in isolation. So we felt obliged that we should sort of top it up and fill it open, make sure there's food in.

[00:24:52] Type two diabetes, insulin resistant. It just lists a load of stuff. Have you got a book, a recommended book that people can get?

Paula: Yeah, dr Macola. what's the one with the big avocado on the front? What's it called for fuel. For fuel. Is that an amazing book? Amazing. Yeah, it's a great starting point for anyone to fat for fuel.

Listen to the episode for full details

[00:29:15] Just quickly, how much weight in tons is TEAM Bootcamp responsible for burning?

    Paula: I can't remember now.

    Craig: It was 49 tons

Okay. So thanks again for listening and join us again in the next episode of the conquer food show.

    Take care. So goodbye.

    Both: Bye bye.

006 - 5 Tip For Weight Loss at Home Post Boot Camp & Nicola's Story

006 - 5 Tip For Weight Loss at Home Post Boot Camp & Nicola's Story

In this episode of the Conquer Food Podcast, I am joined by Nicola Summers and TEAM Bootcamp Chef Ricci as Nic shares her story before, during and after her 12-week Conquer Food Programme and the presents:

    Craig:
Welcome to this latest episode of the podcast. Today we got Nicola, a former long-term boot camper, but now she has a different role in camp. An imperative---instrumental in the Conquer Food Program.
In this episode, I am going to talk about Nic and her journey. I understand that you have some tips as a qualified and competent coach. What tip could you give to everybody, the kind that would make them sure that they hit their goals when they are at camp and when they leave camp?
But before that, tell us more about your life before you start camp.
    Nicola:
Before I came to camp I had a job that I pretty liked and had done all kinds of wrong. Each day, work was very stressful and I pressured myself to look after other people. I worked very long hours and didn't have a life essentially.
    Craig:
Are you doing some fitness training?
    Nicola:
No, there was no time. When things go stressful for me generally at work, then that would be the best time for me to go to the gym. In my mind, the gym was fine because there are certain things people should do at a certain time. But then, I got to the point where it wasn't stable and I was just doing it most of the time for the wrong reasons. It was not helping.
That was my turning point. When I found that it was no longer serving me and I am just making secondary gains. I don't prioritize myself and I just keep on prioritizing other people.
    Craig:
We tend to say that I don't have time for that, I don't have time for this. If you are saying that to yourself, then that's not a priority. Since you are talking about priorities now when you get out of that job, did you have a big realization?
    Nicola:
I was not essential convinced to join conquer food but at that time the solution just presented itself. I have been through enough shit on that job and I eventually earned my redundancy. At that moment, everything in life seems to, all my priorities kind of change. I have questions like, "What am I doing with my life?", "where do I want to go?” What kind of work would I love to do?" So I took four months off and I have a great time reassessing what I want and what are my priorities. The top of my list is getting my health a lot more stable and losing some weight.
    Craig:
As I have said before, "What is the difference between sugar and arsenic?" The time it takes to kill you. Sugar is acceptable because it took years, but it will kill you. Arsenic can kill you overnight and that is not acceptable.
So, then what led to you coming to camp?
    Nicola:
I made a decision months beforehand. I need to find something like a camp and I didn't just know it existed. I needed somewhere where I can focus on one thing because my mind was so busy. I googled, "Where to go to boot camp in the UK?" and I picked this one.
    Craig:
I love hearing stories from your side about the program. Let us talk about your role now at the camp. You have done the course, you graduated from that, can you share your results?
In that process of losing weight, what have you gained?
    Nicola:
I lost eight and a half stone in total in twelve weeks. There are so many things I have gained. Being in camp I constantly hear people saying they want to lose x amounts of weight and fit into item clothing. And I feel happy realizing that I have the same goals.
    Craig:
You can't bullshit yourself. Sometimes it is a massive realization that you alone can save yourself. Can you give us your top five tips Nic?
    Nicola:
First thing is, to reassess where you are and where to go next. When at camp or at Conquer Food you ha

005 - Winter Training, The Facility & an Extreme Weight Loss Trainers Tips For Success - Ashley Evans

005 - Winter Training, The Facility & an Extreme Weight Loss Trainers Tips For Success - Ashley Evans

In this Episode: How TEAM Bootcamp training works in wet weather and the cold.

COACH PROFILE: Ashley, a life coach, and fitness instructor. Working in the fitness industry for 22 years. It all started when I saw an advertisement about team boot camp then I said I'm going to go. The moment I came here.

Things you did before boot camp in the fitness world?

I started up as a fitness instructor and have been a personal trainer too. I have also tried being a manager, sales talk. I enjoyed doing those kinds of stuff a lot.

What kind of new skills have you developed?

My skills as a manager, in trying to manage the individual groups in here comes very handy. Being aware of people's abilities, motilities, differences, regressions to people—I have always been mindful of that. Especially with what we have done today in survival skills and techniques, fishing, and making fire, it's all fun.

You are an expert camper, but let's say there is someone out there that thinks I am different than everybody else, has never done exercise, no extreme physical activities, how do you guarantee that everybody's going to get what they need?

What's the maximum number of people you can train?

In one day? 60 people I may say. We make it work. We have the weight-in process when people arrive before we train them we are talking to them. Looking at the medical records, talking about their abilities, any injuries they got, and from that, we give them a functional assessment.

“As a trainer, I don't care if you can run around at all. It's just the thought that you're hungry for something and you are pushing yourself.”---ASH

How much of a factor in your opinion is the weather on people's results?

The results in the winter are unbelievable, eight or nine inches of snow and we are out there having the most amazing sessions and we see results.

“One would say that, "That was impossible". NO! For campers it doesn't matter what's going on outside. What scares them is when they wake up and we don't lift that weight off them. We don't allow it to stop us.”--ASH

Winter weather brings an immense amount of challenge, and probably bring a lot of pride, excuse that fear. What kind of countermeasures if you have, what do you do to get on with the weather?

We are out there, we are in the elements, we can switch, and we can change a lot.

“You realize no one cares what you look like at camp. There is no point in getting yourself a makeup when you go out. It's liberating and makes you feel free at most.”---ASH

We have termed it "The facility". (The dawn of a new era at team boot camp) An indoor training environment, a cross-fit functioning facility but still maintains the feel of a field in a boot camp and it's going to be a place where you can get out of the elements. This is coming in the next couple of weeks.

Ash, can you tell me how excited are you about the facility? What do you think it's going to bring?

It’s going to be a game-changer. We are already good at training outside but now that we have this facility, it will be going to give us a different dimension. This would allow us to get and an extra bit of intensity from the campers.

Let's talk about the campers. How many campers have you seen go through now? What would you say like people's biggest fear when they come? What do you think is the thing that they should concentrate on?

Maybe I have seen thousands of campers come and go. How much courage would it take for them to come and see that weight off? For them, the most motivating factor is when they see the progression. <

004 - Food & Nutrition Insights From a Conquer Food Chef - Ricci Mussi

004 - Food & Nutrition Insights From a Conquer Food Chef - Ricci Mussi

Welcome to the Conquer Food Podcast where Paula and Craig Williams share tips, tricks & strategies from the coal face of the weight loss industry in the UK. The aim si to help you THINK, EAT and MOVE better and help you finally GAIN CONTROL and Conquer Food.

FOOD AND NUTRITION INSIGHT FROM CONQUER FOOD CHEF RICCI MUSSI

Podcasters welcome to the next episode. I've got a great guest who's featured on one of these episodes before and but as a long-term boot camper on the conquer food program, he's now progressed from there is levelled up. His now superhuman status because he is now a chef at Camp, to provide a lot of food. I've just been talking into what is quite possibly well know which most definitely the best lasagna is. I've had him ever had in my life.

What are your final results being at the program?

The mindset has been the biggest thing for me. (Rucci)

Obviously, in the camp where I met people that changed my life away. I have this completely new outlook on everything. Before I wasn't even thinking about any kind of mindset work, or meditation, or NLP or any of that stuff. I try to process this thought and I realized that if you don't try to do everything to go with it, it's useless.

It's the same thing as everyone says in coaching, "It only works if the person wants to change".

If you practice mindset, you practice all these exercises, and all these things said and don't do anything about it. That's the biggest thing God has taken away from me, and you know it is not even more once you have been through. In that stage or part of your journey, when you fail, you know there is more than failing.  Failing is just one area and it is not everything. It makes you more aware of life.

“I try to process this thought and I realized that if you don't try to do everything to go with it, it's useless. It's the same thing as everyone says in coaching, "It only works if the person wants to change".”--RICCI

I know you have some pretty harsh critics because you've got people that are tired, hungry, and famished as well. We have a weight problem, sugar problem, or food-addiction problem because we are making the wrong choices. So we cannot give you the ability to make your own choice.

Campers would complain about being hungry, about not getting anything, about getting too little.

"You just have to trust us”. We are not just weighting in, we're not just putting stuff in a plate and then that will do. Everything we do comes from a place that we know works.

“Everything we do comes from a place that we know works. We have done this for a long time, here and elsewhere, we know what works and everything we do is for a reason. “--RICCI

When it comes to nutrition, we have to control your blood sugar and insulin. The food group that has the biggest effect on that sugar is protein. If we over-consume protein, the body is going to react and in the process of messing around with it, it can spike insulin in a very similar way if you consume sugar.

“Anything in excess is bad for you. We must include moderation in everything we do.”--RICCI

Behind the scenes in the kitchen: What's going to happen with the foods as we move into the colder months, wetter months?

we have launched our Autumn Menu, more into some stews and the warmer dishes. We Nigerian pepper soup and everyone loves it too and it's great. With my back

002 - Conquer Food Interview With Long Term Weight Loss & Fitness Clients Sonali & Ricci

002 - Conquer Food Interview With Long Term Weight Loss & Fitness Clients Sonali & Ricci

Welcome to the Conquer Food Podcast where Paula and Craig Williams share tips, tricks and strategies from the coal face of the weight loss industry in the UK. This will help you THINK, EAT and MOVE better and help you finally GAIN CONTROL and Conquer Food.

Today we have a special guests who are Sonali and Ricci and has been with the Conquer Food Programme for 10 weeks and 9 weeks respectively. They will be giving insights and their experiences about Conquer Food as well as the Team Bootcamp itself.

“What was your life before and where are you now?”

    Sonali:

“About 3 or 4 years ago, I broke my ankle which then started a spiral of unhealthy habits and weight gain. I think in terms of diet it stayed pretty much the same, but I was not doing training at all. So, the weight piled up a little bit. I got most of it the first time I went to the boot camp and I came back to increase my fitness. The end of my last time to boot camp I felt so good and I really don’t want it to finish or end, so I came back”

    Ricci:

“For me, it was a lifelong struggle to weight because I always have trouble and born with asthma and got steroids in a young kid until growing up. My metabolism was a bit of a spiral and then from that and I fell for the habit of being a chubby kid all my life. And it continued to be in a spiral until now that I am 28, I started to wonder what I will do with my life and what my life will be. And now I am here, it changed my life”

“As model campers of the training, what by-products of you that you’ve experienced or gained unexpected results? And” what are the lessons or results that were unexpected?”

    Ricci:

“For me, one of the surprising things is the whole posture language and the energy in the house. I meet a lot of people and a lot of groups in the house and we had weeks where the training, intensity and food have not changed. And the big thing for me is that I never thought that I would go into a career and fitness and nutrition because these never occurred to me before. I learned so much for 9 weeks and I feel what I learned is I want it a career and pass it on to other people.”

“There are things which really helped me especially in the last couple of weeks I got myself into meditation (hypnosis and base) and got mind set sessions with the group here for twice a week. It is taking time to yourself and really let yourself fully shut down in a good way. And with meditation, it helped me have a good sleep and take away all the rubbish in your head so to clear my mind.”

“It is important to change your state of mind”- Ricci

    Sonali:

“When I first came here, all that was in my mind was to increase the amount of training that I am doing and eat better. I was completely unprepared for how important the mental aspect of it is. “

“I really found the power of thinking” – Sonali

“I was one of those people who don’t see things through. It took a while for the mindset sessions that we have and talking to campers and staff to help me get in the right mindset and think everything through to why it was difficult for me and what are the things that I needed to do to combat things and see things through. And now I feel that we have levelled off and it is not any more stressful going home from work and not feel anxious and I live a normal life”

“We are the sum of all the thinking we have done in our life”- Craig

What will you say to people who have not been in the Conquer Food Program or Team Boot Camp?

    Ricci:

“Have people you can share things with or an accountability coach. Fill your life with positivity. You need people in your life that is there for you.”

Another thing we can put this is to find someone who is an ally. Not somebody who will judge you in a negative way but some

    Key Points include:

    • People’s Mindset

Looking at people’s mindset will help gain a healthy relationship with food. This is to have a healthy relationship with food and gain new habits.

This is also the way to know how you feel about yourself. It is like re-introducing yourself to yourself.

    • Bond within the Camp

Healing is not done individually but it is done within the people in the camp. Those bonds are important relationships because those are the ways campers keep in touch and embrace and one another. And in the Bootcamp, the last thing the camper would ever feel is being judged and most of the times it doesn’t happen at all.

    • The MAGIC in the Camp

No one can help me? I’m back to square one..

These are the common concerns of people when they are in the camp. The camp is designed to remind them that everything they need to know is within them all along. It is not easy to put everything into practice. However, the thing that matters most is the readiness of the person and the willingness to accept changes.

“Paula, what can you see every week at the camp?”

    • Growing people
    • Developing campers
    • Support Network from campers and other people within the camp

“How did you experience the magic in the camp?”

    – The camp shifted how I feel about myself and I am now happy about my body. The camp has changed my life.

    – I realized a lot of things and I have told myself that ” I love this person”, while I was looking to my reflection. This camp was the best thing I have ever done in my life.

-I was in a place surrounded by people who understood my food-related issues. In the camp, I can tell my deepest and darkest food-related issues without anyone to judge me. I can say what I want without the fear of being judged by other people instead the camp will support you all the way.

    • How do you know when you’re READY?

Before I started to change, I felt completely trapped and backed into a corner and you got nowhere to go. Be a FIGHTER, because you have no other choice. Like the old saying: ” Once you hit rock bottom, the only way is UP.”

There were different stories of struggles and difficulties, but we have to move forward and move on.

    • The downside in the Camp

    IT WAS BLOODY HARD!

I remember that I was shedding tears for the past three weeks in the camp and I was really trying my best not to be negative. BUT it was all good in the end.

    Key Points include:

    Before Camp
    The 4 D’s

Delay– They put things off. They want to change, but they’re trying to delay it.

Deny– Quite common to everyone, but we often ignore the tough things we desperately need to deal with.

Distraction– It is like procrastination in forms like video games and other extracurricular activities.

Doubt– Often we doubt if we can really change.

There is a cost for everything that we do. In the end, other people have been consuming excess things for a long time and there is a cost to that and you’ve got to live with it. The choices that we make each day has corresponding effects. These are the consequences which are needed to be dealt with on a daily basis and people have to live with it. However, these consequences may come in negative or positive results. Either way, it doesn’t mean that there is no room for change because there is always a chance to improve and make things right.
During Camp: Ups and Downs At Day 1, a person may not visualize life ahead of him or her. Goals are composed of little milestones along the way. As all the little milestones are gathered, GOAL is met.
For 11 months, trainers were there throughout the journey. There are people, especially with different personalities, find it hard to get orders from other people but that must not stop them to move forward. Incredible transformations cannot be seen on day one, however, through hard work and dedication, it truly pays off after months in the camp. Minor steps are considered “big” to create a good foundation for the camp and aim improvements. Before performing bigger steps, people must start to learn small steps before they progress. Learn from mistakes: That will be a driving force to make a person better. Reflections are helpful in order to come up with a goal whether there are things that needed to be changed or is there something that needs improvement.
Resources The place which will mould you to become a better person will really help, but other people with an equal goal are also there to shape you into a person you want to become. Reading materials are important to create positive influence to maintain a motivational spirit. Focus on what is needed to be done and get rid of the things which don’t  need your attention.“Change is the only thing that remains constant.”Focus on what change you want to make. There are decisions which could lead or push you near your goal or away from it, so try to also pay attention to minor decisions because they play an important role in making your life better and productive.
Life After Camp After hard work, patience and dedication, life will most likely be normal but better. Happiness is not only built to the new chapter of a person’s life, but also for the love of oneself and the acceptance of what that person has become after boot camp. A person can appreciate life more after experiencing the extreme ends of not living normally apart from other people who are living life up to the fullest. However, people stack up more on the life-changing lessons and experiences that they have acquired which they can be proud of themselves because they have surpassed them and went beyond their limitations.

The minute you commence a quest of self-esteem, you start moving away from pity and your LIFE CHANGES  ” – Craig

    Key Points include:
    The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem
    Living Consciously

Give everything you’ve got NOW. Take the three tools mentioned: the past, present and the future. Do not live in the past because it is gone instead you carry the lessons that you have learned. Do not fear the future because it has not happened yet; you must look forward to a better tomorrow by doing well at present. However, live NOW ( the present) and enjoy every the moment with family, friends or career.
    Practice Self-Acceptance
Start accepting yourself and the things that you cannot change and go on with life. Taking oneself means gaining acceptance from other people.
    Self Responsibility
When people feel pity, it’s like blaming others the fate of their lives. The biggest lesson is by accepting that YOU create your reality. Don’t give anyone the stirring wheel to your life, so you have to take responsibility especially the choices that you make in your life. You are the sum of all the things that you have done may it be choices, the things that you have done or have in your life.
    Self Assertiveness
A serious problem arises when you don’t get hold of your own life. People might hold you in the neck and tell you what to do with your life. Assertiveness enables a person to stand his ground especially choosing something better for yourself. To exercise assertiveness in life is to be worthy enough to do what you want to do which will result in self-worth.
    Living Purposefully
Know where you’re going and live with conviction like you are walking for a purpose. People will feel better when they are doing something with a purpose. The reason behind what you are doing drives you to make your life full of purpose and do not allow the society to decide how to live your life.
    Integrity
If there is no integrity, there is no trust.  The practice of integrity be true to yourself and be who you are and practice your values. Going beyond your values and beliefs will not make you happy because that is not who you are. It is being positive to yourself with self-love and trying to stand up for what you believe is right and that what you are doing is making you happy.

The only powerful moment you have is NOW. The more you practice living purposefully, the more you will LIVE in the moment ” – Paula
