Money mindset with the world’s most ‘not boring’ accountant - Diana Todd

Diana Todd is rapidly becoming a bit of a celebrity over here in Western Australia for so many reasons. I know, how does a tax accountant become a celebrity?

Well you’ll have to listen to find out but it wont take you long.

Firstly Diana shares her own personal story of moving across the world, enduring her own personal tragedy and then embarking out on a whole new career path.

If you’re not inspired, I’ll eat my hat.

Money mindset is kind of in ‘fashion’ you might say. So why does Diana stand out from the rest? Well aside from her syrupy sweet voice and entire nature in general (bees to honey comes to mind), Diana when it come to money Diana combines the practical with the woo woo which really is the ultimate combination.

And with years of working with businesses and corporates of all sizes, all over the world, well that street cred that’s hard to top.

Tractor chats & old school community spirit for the win

Tractor chats & old school community spirit for the win

As I sat on the tractor going around in circles, sinking a few tinnies with my brother, we got to talking about the local community we grew up in.
A very small town, like many other in rural and regional Australia, that’s survival is weighted on the participation of the community of which it resides in.

Without community and community spirit these towns die. And that’s not an over dramatisation but actual reality. And as far as I’m concerned, the same can be said for small business.

Ahead of the curve conquering teenage mindset with Claire Eaton

There really is something in this episode for everyone. As a mother of twin girls entering teenage years, I was psyched to have this chat with Claire to delve into the world of teen mental health.
As a woman in business, I was equally pumped to uncover how Claire made the pivot from school teacher to mindset coach for youth and parents, author and speaker. Well, not only did she pivot but she essentially became an early adopter and a ‘trail blazer’ in the youth mental health space.

This is a juicy episode and I was delighted to find our values completely align when Claire shared her business advice at the end of the episode. So listen to the end.

A fun fact: Claire taught my brother in primary school. How old are we?

The best advice my Mum ever gave me

The best advice my Mum ever gave me

The best advice my mum ever gave me

Lately I’ve been trying something new in my business and it’s been working out kinda well for me.  But my mum never intended this advice to be a business strategy, it was just something most small girls hear off their mum at some point in life I’m quite sure.
    Well in my generation anyway.
Turns out at almost 40 years of age I have found this advice to be quite powerful.

Putting this advice into action requires confidence or an ability to handle rejection……..and rejection I can guarantee you will get. But I promise somewhere along the way, if you keep doing it….. you’ll get a yes.

    Ooh so mysterious.
Listen to find out my mothers infinite wisdom.

BB - EP 33 - Untangling the web of divorce: with divorce Coach Alice McDonald

BB - EP 33 - Untangling the web of divorce: with divorce Coach Alice McDonald

Untangling the web of divorce: with divorce Coach Alice McDonald

Well since I’m currently in the middle of getting divorced, it seemed only natural to get myself some advice from a divorce coach on my podcast.

Right? But don’t go getting too excited. Whilst it’s tempting to use this platform to air some dirty laundry and give you all the juicy goss, this episode isn’t all that! I’ve spent over 20 years in customer service, talking all day every day with literally thousands of (mostly) women. I’ve heard the craziest divorce stories! I’ve seen women behave appallingly, I’ve seen children used as pawns, I’ve seen crazy texting / emailing / threatening and I even knew someone who broke into her ex husbands house! True story.

I’ve seen the worst behaviour from both women and men. Some possibly warranted, but most not. And I’ve been deeply fascinated by just how bat sh!t crazy divorce can make some people. So I wanted to speak to Alice McDonald and hear her story and how she is taking the crazy out of divorce one couple at a time.

    Welcome to my losing season

    Welcome to my losing season

It’s taken a long time for me to pluck up the courage for this episode.

You know that saying, don’t compare yourself in your losing season so someone in their winning season? Well, I’m coming out of one hell of a losing season and I wanted to share it because who knows…. It might make someone else feel ok about their situation.

I’ve always struggled with over sharing vs being authentic when you’re operating a business. I have feared that if I had been entirely honest about what I was going through over the past year, no one would want to work with me.

I ‘feared’ that everyone would assume I’m a train wreck and avoid me at all costs.

    So I waited.

I waited until I had the confidence to say “screw you cruel world, I am a QUEEN”.

Ok, well that may be a little ‘dramatic’.

So the last 12 months of my life have been utterly and entirely shit. But I’m ok.

So here is my tale of woe (aren’t I courageous) ……… I hope it leaves you inspired and not depressed

From outback hats to New York fashion week with Felicity Brown

From outback hats to New York fashion week with Felicity Brown

She’s somewhat of a celebrity in outback Australia, and not just because of her unique and highly sort after millinery skills.

Felicity Brown has a smile and energy that would light up the darkest of rooms. A poster child for what happens when you say “yes” to life. No matter the obstacles.

It’s a big introduction but when you listen to this episode I guarantee your heart will almost explode as ‘Flic’ shares with us her story of how one simple act of kindness went on to change her entire life…….. and put her on the runway of New York fashion week.

It won’t be the story alone that warms your soul, it’s the way she shares it with such love and gratitude as if it only happened yesterday. And how her small about community united to help her realise a dream and opportunity of a lifetime.

This episode is a lesson on bravery, kindness, community and the strength to say yes. To back yourself and take a chance.

Thank you Felicity, this was one of my favourite chats.

Raw learnings of a modern day business with Jessica Miller

Raw learnings of a modern day business with Jessica Miller

This is another one of those episodes where I broach a scary topic. Scary because I’m just starting out on my DEI journey (diversity, equity, inclusivity) and like many others, I have a fear of saying the ‘wrong thing’.

But it’s that fear that prevents us from having hard conversations. And isn’t it better to have them and face them head on so we can learn and move forward doing it better?

And isn’t ok if we don’t always get it right?

In this episode Jessica Miller bravely shares her journey in business and what led her to requiring a DEI coach.

And if I’m straight up honest, I didn’t know what that meant so fair chance if you’re reading this, you’re also about to find out.

Oh and forgive me for thinking Karratha was just a small outback WA town….. turns out it’s a city. Traffic lights, Mcdonalds…. the works!

Is good old - fashioned customer service dead?

Is good old - fashioned customer service dead?

EP 25 | Is good old- fashioned customer service dead?

Look I’ve been saying it for a long time; “good customer service isn’t good enough”.

And guess what? It’s free. Outstanding customer service is free. I know, shocker, right?

So many businesses get (borderline) obsessive over their social media when in reality, even the best Instagram strategy in the world won’t save you if your existing clients don’t absolutely ‘love you sick’.

I hate saying this but not all businesses have suffered at the hand of Covid. Many have thrived. But for how long?

I will validate that in Australia there’s an across the board shortage when it comes to finding good staff to employ, and that makes it hard. No doubt about it. In this case, you can still show up with your clients by acknowledging and owning that which you cannot change, i.e - “we thank you for your ongoing support at this time. As we’re currently experiencing staff shortages we apologise if your experience with us was less than exceptional and we thank you for your patience as we navigate these tricky times”.

However, DO NOT ever take times of boom for granted. Because what happens when it quietens down? And it will. Will your clients love you enough to support you then?

In this episode I have a good old Elsa rant about some subpar customer service experiences, particularly in the real estate industry.

Because good old-fashioned customer service…. Will never die.
