My lessons totally worth knowing for 2023

Look I learnt some stuff in the last year, as did we all. Are my reflections really ‘that’ profound and worthy of sharing with the world? Maybe not.

But look, it feels pretty self-righteous to say but I did have some significant wins and I feel like I’m allowed to say that because I have had many years of really… not winning at all. So, I get a free pass to preach right?

All jokes aside there is comfort in the normality of day to day storytelling and the lessons that come with it. There are profound moments that come from the most common of daily tragedies and losses.

Here are mine, I wouldn’t share them if I didn’t think you could benefit.

Look, don’t snob this episode off because you ‘think’ you don’t need SEO or that it’s too hard.

My biggest fan girl moment; talking SEO with Neil Patel.

Having Neil Patel on my podcast is the equivalent of any woman on the planet having Beyonce show up to sing at their birthday party.
And whilst I’m normally one for theatrics, in this instance I’m actually serious.
The Wall Street Journal calls him on the most influential marketers on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies. He was recognised as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama but most importantly is the creator of all my favourite online tools. AND HE AGREED TO COME ON MY PODCAST...... Dreams do come true!!
To boot Neil is just an incredible human being that we all can all draw strength off. Whether its for digital marketing advice which he makes available and relatable for the average small business owner, or just how to show in life as a bloody good human. Here for the big leaders of the world with Cha Higginson

If you’re wondering what the AF is a shamanic healer then guess what, so was I.

When I first met Cha Higginson she looked me dead in the eye and with a steady and quiet confidence she declared “I’m here to work with the big leaders and change makers, because that’s where I have the power to make the biggest impact in the world.”

Now if anyone else had said that I probably would’ve rolled my eyes and said “yeah, whatever mate”. But Cha spoke in a way that was without arrogance or bull sh!t. I believed her and you will too.

I have one of those businesses where my parents don’t really understand what it is I do. In fact, a lot of people don’t really get it.
Even business owners don’t always get it, or why they might need one.
And if I’m being really honest I never really wanted to be a business coach per say, yet here I am.

Untangling the web of divorce: with divorce Coach Alice McDonald

Well since I’m currently in the middle of getting divorced, it seemed only natural to get myself some advice from a divorce coach on my podcast.

Right? But don’t go getting too excited. Whilst it’s tempting to use this platform to air some dirty laundry and give you all the juicy goss, this episode isn’t all that! I’ve spent over 20 years in customer service, talking all day every day with literally thousands of (mostly) women. I’ve heard the craziest divorce stories! I’ve seen women behave appallingly, I’ve seen children used as pawns, I’ve seen crazy texting / emailing / threatening and I even knew someone who broke into her ex husbands house! True story.

I’ve seen the worst behaviour from both women and men. Some possibly warranted, but most not. And I’ve been deeply fascinated by just how bat sh!t crazy divorce can make some people.So I wanted to speak to Alice McDonald and hear her story and how she is taking the crazy out of divorce one couple at a time.

She’s somewhat of a celebrity in outback Australia, and not just because of her unique and highly sort after millinery skills.

Felicity Brown has a smile and energy that would light up the darkest of rooms. A poster child for what happens when you say “yes” to life. No matter the obstacles.

This is another one of those episodes where I broach a scary topic. Scary because I’m just starting out on my DEI journey (diversity, equity, inclusivity) and like many others, I have a fear of saying the ‘wrong thing’.

But it’s that fear that prevents us from having hard conversations. And isn’t it better to have them and face them head on so we can learn and move forward doing it better?

And isn’t ok if we don’t always get it right?

Yeah, we know, it’s all about humanising your brand. Your audience wants to see YOU! People buy from people and all of that.  

Sometimes I feel like the more we preach to ‘be your authentic self’, the weirder some people get.  

Personally, I think we walk a fine line between being authentic and oversharing. Like self-promotion isn’t scary enough.  

If I’d been COMPLETELY honest about what was happening in my world in 2021, you would have thought I’d all gone nuts, and no one would’ve wanted to work with me. 

So, I chose to drip feed my hardships……. Because firstly, some things are personal. And that’s OK. 

And secondly, as much as I had the sh!ttiest year of all time, I was still more than capable of showing up and doing a damn good job too. And that is more important (in my opinion). 

So being authentic vs oversharing…. Let’s discuss.
