    Robin Hood

    Robin Hood

The Medfield gang is back with a movie that was near and dear to most of us - 1973's animated classic Robin Hood, directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, starring Brian Bedford, Phil Harris, and Peter Ustinov, and featuring some truly iconic Roger Miller songs.  Why don't you sit and rest a spell as we discuss this peach's place in the Disney echelon?  Nobody really likes Skippy, but that shouldn't hurt things too bad, right?  And George "Goober" Lindsay is up in here, surely that will make Andy go bananas, right?  I guess you'll just have to find out....

    Death on the Nile (1978)

    Death on the Nile (1978)

Join us for a cruise down the Nile as we explore another Agatha Christie classic adapted to the screen! We put on our detective hats and cross examine all the suspects of this murderous river boat cruise. Death on the Nile (1978) captures a fascinating time of a pop culture resurgence of Egypt and Egyptology interest, all while bringing to life one of the greatest literary detectives of all time: Hercule Poirot! Who killed the the dazzlingly beautiful and fabulously wealthy socialite Linnet Ridgeway? Tune in to find out!

    Barry Lyndon (1975), Spartacus (1960), Ran (1985)

Welcome to (perhaps) the largest Extra Milestone yet! In an Anyway, That’s All I Got reunion for the ages, I’m joined by Anthony Battaglia, Guy Simons Jr., and Jason Read to discuss three of the biggest epics of the 21st century! First up is Barry Lyndon, the passion project of Stanley Kubrick released in 1975, and a film that’s quite well-loved among hardcore cinephiles. After that, we circle back to Spartacus, an earlier Kubrick film that is rarely discussed in the context of his filmography, and perhaps for just reason! Finally, we jump forward to another one of the great directors with Ran, Akira Kurosawa’s massive and operatic masterpiece from 1985, and which only one of us had seen!

    SHOW NOTES:

    • 00:05:54 – Barry Lyndon
    • 01:06:33 – Spartacus
    • 01:48:21 – Ran

HOSTED BY: Sam Noland, Anthony Battaglia, Guy Simons Jr., and Jason Read

MUSIC IN THIS EPISODE: Music from Barry Lyndon composed by Georg Friedrich Händel and performed by The Gold Rush Studio Orchestra, music from Ran composed by Tóru Takemitsu

In the year 2274, young residents enjoy an idyllic, hedonistic lifestyle within the protective confines of a domed city. The general belief is that when each person turns 30, they are reincarnated for another blissful life cycle. Those who know the much darker truth become "runners" and flee to a hidden sanctuary. When law enforcement officer Logan (Michael York) goes undercover to locate the refuge, he winds up instead trying to initiate a revolution with runner Jessica (Jenny Agutter).
