    I Heart Genesis

    I Heart Genesis
Some days, you just gotta throw on some Genesis. We’re big Gen-heads over here at Deep Cuts, both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins eras. Tonight we celebrate their legacies with Invisible Touch, followed by Gabriel’s third self-titled solo record familiarly known as Melt.

Singer/songwriter Jane Siberry is an incomparable, multi-fasciated person and performer known for such hits as ‘Mimi On The Beach’ and dueting with k. d. Lang on the song ‘Calling All Angels’. In this very unique and personal chat with host Dan Hare, Jane talks about: the balance between music as art and as science; the energetic connection between performer and artist and why that is so important; why she produces her own music; why she changed her name to Issa - and why she changed it back; what housing rescue animals has taught her; details on writing books and her new music, and so much more. Enjoy Stuff: The Vinyl Countdown

For the record, we couldn't get enough music 40 years ago. This week Enjoy Stuff remembers how we consumed our music and what was popular in 1983. Jay and Shua spin you right round baby, right round on Enjoy Stuff!

Let’s look back at what music was popular in 1983 and how we listened, on a very musical episode of Enjoy Stuff

    What we’re Enjoying

After watching season 1 of Willow on Disney+, Jay went back and remembered how fun Willow the movie was. A fantasy adventure with humor and a lot of heart. Shua has been immersed in a Star Trek soundtrack playlist on Spotify that includes music from just about every show, movie, and project you could think of. A nice variety of sci-fi tunes for your daily listen.

In 1998 Aerosmith would close their eyes, just to hear you breathing. Creepy? Not when you realize it’s the soundtrack from the Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck disaster flick Armageddon. As hokey and over the top as this Michael Bay movie is, it’s still a lot of fun. Check it out on Sci-Fi Saturdays on Retrozap.com. Plus, stay tuned for a little known post-apocalyptic film called Six-String Samurai, coming this Saturday.

    Enjoy Music!

Music has been a determining factor of a culture since Ringo Starr discovered it as a Caveman. But in the 80s it seemed to take it to a whole other level. This week we take a look at where we got our music and what was popular.

This week, 40 years ago, Men at Work had the number one spot with Down Under. And while Australia was all the rage at this time, it was just one of the many songs we would keep track of on the charts when we listened to Casey Kasem bring it to us each week on American Top 40.

While listening to the radio was nice, we couldn’t pick the songs we wanted. So we headed into the record stores for our records and tapes. Enjoy Stuff will share the history and origins of some of our listening vessels on this week’s show.

Plus, we remember some of the iconic stores that were enjoying their heyday in the malls and other venues across the country. It’s a musical episode for the scrapbook. Come join us as we Enjoy Music!

Where did you get your music in 1983? Did you listen on vinyl, cassette, American Top 40? Did you read all of these shownotes? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

    Episode-05: Rob Brian

    Episode-05: Rob Brian
Rob Brian is a Grammy Award winning studio and touring drummer from the UK.

He has worked with Goldfrapp, Miles Kane, Loreena McKennitt, Siouxsie Sioux, Simple Minds, and Peter Gabriel. Next month, he is appearing at the Liverpool Beatles Museum with Ringo's Drum Curator Gary Astridge to play some of the famous Ringo grooves.

Our conversation zeros in on a few of the highlights of his session and worldwide touring career, how he got there, and how the pandemic affected musicians in the UK. And, of course, he provides some background on the upcoming gig at the Beatles Museum. And we have a few laughs along the way.

- Kike Posada

Beyond Radio Presents - Castlist 006 - Ep 3 - Where's the DNA? Dark Wave Revival

Beyond Radio Presents - Castlist 006 - Ep 3 - Where's the DNA? Dark Wave Revival

This episode makes connections between '80s Goth and Dark Wave and more recent songs in those styles. It starts on a completely different path at first. Jeff wants to play me a song by a local Maine artist that I find was part of 2 groups I know. This leads to another Struts conversation and 2 collaboration songs.

Once the actual theme starts a few different concert experiences come into play, the lack of baritone and bass vocals in popular music, and a lot of talk about songs that build. This seems to be a comfort zone for Jeff, who offers some interesting connections which leads to one that only I became aware of during editing. This process is always so much fun.

We end on a highlight for Jeff that will lead to the next episode.

Monstrosity with David Race Ep W1 - Steve Hackett (from Genesis), and Paranormal Expert Linda Godfrey

Monstrosity with David Race Ep W1 - Steve Hackett (from Genesis), and Paranormal Expert Linda Godfrey

This episode of Monstrosity is the first ever that we are referring to as  a 'Wildcard" episode. It's a "Wildcard" episode because it breaks our usual format in several ways. But none of that matters, because...

This episode features British rock star Steve Hackett, the legendary guitarist from the one of the most successful rock bands of all time, GENESIS! And Monstrosity host David Race is one of the biggest Genesis fans on earth, so the detailed "Genesis questions" David gets Hackett answering are fantastic! In many cases, they are questions that we don't think Steve has ever been asked before!

After a fun and informative interview with Hackett, we speak with Linda Godfrey, about some of the more "off the grid" cryptids.
